Feat Verbage

What is the difference between "Choose one spell that you know...", and "Choose one spell which you have the ability to
cast"?
Does the latter quote refer to a spell on your spell list? Does it refer to a spell known or in your spellbook? I ask this from the perspective of a Sorcerer. If it is the latter then the "Preferred Spell" feat is useless to Sorcerers, Bards and Oracles. If this is the Intent then I am OK with it, I just want a developers clairification.

"Choose one spell that you know" = On your spells known list.
"Choose one spell you have the ability to cast" = On the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list.

Just my 2 cp.

According to the feat:

Preferred Spell

Choose one spell which you have the ability to cast. You can cast that spell spontaneously by sacrificing a prepared spell or spell slot of equal or higher level. You can apply any metamagic feats you possess to this spell when you cast it. This increases the minimum level of the prepared spell or spell slot you must sacrifice in order to cast it but does not affect the casting time.

IMO, it seems that feat refers to a spell on the Sorc/Wiz spell list. However, depending upon the definition of the words ability to cast , Sorcs and other spont casters would only be able to cast it if it was a known spell, agreeing with your statement that the feat would be useless.

My take is that Preferred Spell is indeed useless to sorcerers, except for speeding up the casting time for metamagicked versions of the spell.

EDIT: Well, I suppose it's possible that you could be a multi-classed sorcerer/cleric (say) and then you could use your sorcerer slots for casting a preferred cleric spell. That's a pretty liberal interpretation, though.

I think that feat is more or less for wizards and other preparation casters... imagine a Abjurer/counterspell specialist taking dispel magic as their preferred spell or an evoker taking their favorite blasty spell. As is their is another feat that give a sorcerer an extra known spell which would be Expanded Arcana which can only be taken by spontaneous casters.
