Alchemist Extracts

Rules Questions

Hi, I have a question regarding the Alchemist Extracts. When it says "the effects of an extract exactly duplicate the spell upon which its formula is based, save that the spell always affects only the drinking alchemist", does it mean that if I cast "Cure Light Wounds" it heals 2d8 hit points instead of the normal 1d8? I´m a bit confused about the last part.

Thank you very much!

What it is saying is that it never affects anyone other than the person drinking it. "Duplicate" in this is not meaning do it twice, but it is saying it does the same thing as a normal spell. The exception is for spells like haste, which normally target multiple people. If you made an extract out of it, only the person drinking the extract would get haste. Cure light wounds extract would be identical to a cure light wounds spell, but only the person who drinks the extract will be healed, instead of anyone touched. Range and number of targets are the 2 things this is restricting.

Ok, is this the correct interpretation? I know that is how a potion works. But if it duplicates the spell does it actually duplicate the spell. i.e.

When laying your hand upon a living creature, you channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +5)

In other words does it infuse you with the ability to cure light wounds?

its using Duplicate to mean Identical. Basically Extracts are Alchemical Spells in a Vaguely potion form.

The bit about Haste is the reason why it mentions that.
