Male HP(104/104 or 125*/125*) Gnoll Barbarian 7 - Invulnerable Rager

Dan not sure you saw my first post asking how high up lvl 2 was from lvl 1? Thx.

As the Gnolls fall around Grall he looks up at Kardswann, Is this all you have to offerrr me, filth and weaklings!
Do you fearrr us soo much that you hide up therrre and let yourrr pitiful minions fall like wheat to the scythe while you do nothing! I see a cowarrrd standing above us. Hide, hide while you still can...

Sajan:

Gah longer post eaten. Sorry if this comes out brisk.

- Ogre grabbed at you from ten feet.
- Shot came after before your action so nothing you could do about that.
- Assumed you would step within five feet to take your attack but not sure this works on further fire because of:

"If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character."

- If you dodged instead of took an extra hit because of any assumption made then feel free to have a retcon.

I did just working on updates that got eaten. Second level is twenty feet up. As above the edge of the hole is just back from the last line of benches around the arena. Third level twenty feet up again.

Ah, sorry I was under the impression the rangers had acted (and that it was the archers that shot me). Serves me right for posting out of initiative order. Don't worry about being brisk with me anyway, I can take it :). i'd rather not waste your time if i'm wrong.

Having been shot by an arrow, Sajan takes a moment to glare at the archers, shouting-

Your champion challenged me to single combat. Do you Gnolls have no honour?

Impulse 13

She stands motionless. As always the happenings of the outside world are remote, like she is a fish looking through glass. Sounds are muted. Feelings are muted. The only thing that is clear is the ever present darkness pressing down on her mind.

Give them the flame. Start with the race traitor.

It is so hard to think. So much easier just to obey.

She can feel the fires surging inside her begging for release. Once, when she had a different name, a different life, they scared her. Not any more.

She looks down at the melee, at her target, covered in blood and yelling out defiance. It is the same gnoll from before, the one that is so familiar.... a long buried part of her starts to scream...

The Flame Witch starts to shake, seemingly struggling against some unseen force. She opens her mouth and speaks, just barely audible over the fighting.

no…..i won’t….

……Grall…….

The regular gnolls on the second level continue to shoot. Three focus their fire on Grall after his fearsome display while the forth aims at Linah. All three shafts strike home on the gnoll although the first just bounces off his hide.

Longbow vs Grall 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 hit

Crit confirm

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 no crit!
2d8 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

Having failed to get his hands on the monk Hurvank tries a different tactic, clubbing away at Sajan with his meaty gauntleted fists. Several punches come close but the monk's ki enhanced defenses stand firm. Hurvank roars in frustration and rage as Sajan dodges his last flurry by inches.

Spiked Gauntlet 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 miss
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Nuveril and Khalid.

Sajan doesn't have much time to look but the ranger seems to smirk.

DM, am I correct that all the enemies we've been fighting on this level are dead apart from the wrestler?

Nuveril wrote:

Yes. Will update the map at the top of the round.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril moves to the nearest stairwell and begins trying to shift the blockage. There is no reason for stealth now. Perception to see any obvious traps 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 Fatigued round 2/4; Move to E 5

Can't get there in a single move action, so she can roll a Strength check or whatever is needed next round. Or can she try to clamber over the top of the rubble with an Acrobatics check?

OK if you want to try the blocked stairways starting point is that every square is treated as difficult terrain. You can clamber over, through, whatever with a succesful acrobatics check (DC 15) for each move action (so for example Sajan with his forty feet move could move four squares with a move action and a succesful check). Fail on the check and you got nowhere that move. Alternatively you can try and clear a square for every move action by making a strength check. Anyone that makes it up adjacent to a blockage should make a perception check please.

Grall and Sajan are 13' and 14' respectively with a 10' high ceiling. We'll say they take a -2 to everything for partial squeezing in the stairways.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Are the stairs at the top of the map blocked? She can make it adjacent to there with a double-move and use her Perception check.

Steps near the north and east entrances are verified as blocked. If you want to move to E3 feel free to make a check.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Khalid stops, hearing Nuveril's warning. Then inspects the substance.

What would the check be to identify the substance?

With Nuveril pointing it out you can see that the barricade on about the top half of the steps is coated in some kind of liquid. Its not easy to spot in the dim light. You would need to be close to identify it.

Feel free to sub that acrobatics check for your own perception check, that may reveal more information from a sensory perspective.

Itching to finish this Ogre off! I'll declare my next round's action in advance.

Sajan takes a quiet satisfaction in besting the Ogre so completely thus far but does not let overconfidence overwhelm him. The brute is still standing after two titanic punches, so Sajan stands his ground and delivers two more swift blows, his left hand brushing the Ogre's arms aside and allowing his right to slam into Hurvank's face, trading any kind of finesse for sheer brutality.

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 5) + 8 = 16

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 4) + 8 = 15

If that drops the Ogre 5 foot step towards Linah. If it doesn't step in to the Ogre to disrupt archers.

We're at the bottom of the round with some actions. Technically both Kardswann and the Flame Witch have been delaying.

For several moments Kardswann has been watching the Flame Witch with evidently increasing annoyance.

What are you waiting for?! Do it!

She very clearly shakes her head.

That is a really neat idea I hadn't thought of but your outside the 35' range (and frankly I was really surprised when I double checked).

Reflex 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 fail

Again the target of Zeladiel's evocation tries to dodge but the sphere tracks it unerringly, impacting squarely on the gnoll's chest before fading away. For a moment the ranger's screams are all that can be heard. The gnoll is left staggered, blackened and smoking. 0hp!

The elf is not finished, his darts of force slamming into the other ranger who sways on its feet, blood tricking from its mouth before collapsing to the ground. -1hp!

The remaining ranger is just barely on its feet. Its steps back from the edge, retrieving a small vial. Big turn! It can only draw and not drink the potion while staggered.

Grall dashes across the open arena floor to reach the fallen Flame Witch, bending over her to shield her with his body.

Grall:

There is blood, so much blood but Haleen's green eyes flicker open as you bend down. Her veil and hood have partly fallen off revealing that she is completely bald as if every hair on her head has been crisped off by fire but she is still alive!

Grall! Am I dreaming... you need to get away, save yourself. You can't let him take you!

The battle between monk and ogre continues. It is Sajan's turn to go onto offense and the mighty Hurvank falls back before Sajan's determined assault. The monk sweeps aside the ogre's attempts at defense almost contemptiously, both blows with his right hand landing with bone breaking force. Bruised and bleeding heavily, the ogre spits several teeth onto the ground along with a mouthful of blood. Only its rage is keeping it on its feet.

A little out of order but it doesn't matter. Linah is up. Its just you and the archers so feel free to post ahead, we'll move back to strict turn order when it becomes relevant.

Round 5
Linah stands frozen for a moment, utterly perplexed. A few seconds ago she was about to run to Grall and heal whatever hurts the flame witch had bestowed opon him, but now her enemy was lying on the stone floor with the gnoll beside her, pleading to Linah to save her life. Linah felt as she was watching the scene from a distance, with someone else's eyes on her, juding her actions.

Reality came crashing back with the sound of battle, it's smells and it's choices. Grall had never given her a reason to doubt him and she was not going to falter when he was in need. "See that we get a way upstairs", she calls out and rushes towards the fallen form of the flame witch (Run action to move adjacent to Haleen, since i don't think i can get within 30 feet with just one move action (20 feet)).

If i can however:

Halfway there Linah once again closes her eyes and spreads her arms in a perfect replica of the birthmark on her left palm (Move 20 feet toward Haleen as a move action then Channel positive energy as a standard action, 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8)

Linah will need the run. Sorry having map problems will have this up later. Having a look at the third level map shows the balcony positioning.

Linah dashes across the open arena area toward Grall.

The regular archers continue to fire but throw nervous looks at each other. Their morale was clearly stiffened by the presence of the rangers. Two shoot at Linah while she runs while the other two take the opportunity to shoot Grall. Each takes a hit, Linah catches an arrow in the ribs only partly turned by her armour while Grall takes yet another hit this time to the side. Its becoming difficult to tell how much of the blood on him is his own and how much your enemies.

Through the tangle of furniture, corpses and debris you can see 2 gnolls standing at the top of the other set of steps (I,-6). Both have throwing spears in one hand and lit torches in the other. They've turned toward you, evidently aware of your presence from the noise you made navigating the barrier. The other set of steps seemed to be unblocked.
