Eidolon Claws and multi attack

Rules Questions

OK, I think I'm a bit fuzzy on the rules here.

I've got a summoner with a bipedal Eidolon at 1st level. They have the stat boosting evolution for strength.

So with the 1 BAB and the 18 Str, it has a +5 to hit for melee.

So what is the attack bonus for the claws? Is it +5 for just one claw, or can it use both at +5? If there is a penalty for using both, what is the attack bonus?

I am even further confused by multi-attack being a bonus feat later. Assuming there is no penalty I imagine this means you need to take additional attacks for the feat to do anything.

Some of the eidolons attacks are primary attacks band some are secondary attacks.
Secondly natural attacks like claws come in groups.

So the claws are a primary attack and grouped together. Both attack at + 5.

The multi attack feet later on is used when youbhave secondary attacks or if you start to use manufactured weapons

Ok, thanks. I thought it was that way but just wasn't sure. So if I picked up a bite or something, I would use the multi-attack.

I wonder if anyone has an eidolon planner worked up or something?

Claws are primary, so you do not take a penalty normally while using them. As a Standard Action you can attack with one claw for +5. As a Full Attack action you can attack claw/claw for +5 on both.

If it has three or more natural attacks, it gains Multi-attack which lowers the penalty for secondary attacks. Having only claws (and/or bites, gores, etc), it does not have any secondary attacks, thus gains no benefit (until it gets secondary attacks).

If it has less than three natural attacks (like just having a set of claws), then it gains an extra attack with one of them at a -5 penalty.

So, gaining that ability as your Eidolon is now, he would have claw/claw/claw at +5/+5/+0.

Only if the attacks you pick up are secondary attacks.

The other thing multi-attack is good for is when your eidolon elects to use a manufactured weapon as all the remaining natural attacks all become secondary attacks.

The only real use of multi-attack is if you want secondaries on your guy, or if you want to wield a weapon while attacking. At level 9 you can, for instance, wing buffet without taking a penalty, or grow tentacles (or earlier if you burn a feat but this is rarely worthwhile).

As long as an attack is "primary", you get full attack bonus and Str to damage

The Eidolan evolution "REND". Is that a secondary attack? So, if I have claws hitting at +5/+5, where does the rend fit in?

Rend isn't really a natural attack. There's no attack roll involved. It's just extra damage if you hit with both claws.

Sidenote: and as such does not apply extra damage from critical hits or Power Attack.
