New Pathfinder PBP

Shadow Lodge

Hey. I'm looking to try out the PBP idea from the other side. I'm currently running two campaigns: a Second Darkness and a Serpent's Skull. I'm hoping to start/join another PBP as a player. Anybody else interested in joining in on this, and anybody interested in running it? If it comes down to it, I'm open to paying for the PDFs and copying them for the GM and not looking at them. I probably shouldn't play either of the above two campaigns since I'm currently running them.

just noticed this, I just put up a request for players if you're interested.

I'm trying to join another PbP as player. Am running a homebrew campaign and playing in a kingmaker game as a sorcerer, but my favored class has always been the main tank, and i'm eager to play a fighter or a barbarian.
Pity i don't have the time to GM 2 game

I'd like to join as a player too. Currently playing serpent skull at my local so would like to avoid that. Liked to play some sort of magic user.

I'm trying to get back into gaming, but I still don't have much time for in-person gaming - pbp might be the perfect medium for me. I stopped gaming right around the beginning of Pathfinder's development, so I'm not up on the setting, but I'm trying to get up to speed.

Ideally, I'd like to play through the adventure paths in chronological order, but that's no requirement. I just think it'd be interesting to simulate the experience of following Pathfinder from the beginning as a means of catching up.

I can confidently commit to 1 post/day pace, usually early weekdays.

I'd also be interested to join in on this, the only Ap I've played is Legacy of Fire, as for what I'd play, class is not so important, but I'd like to play an Ulfen, I'm afterall Swedish so that feels natural to me.

If we can find a GM, I want to play Semenya Carbachon, who was built for Council of Thieves - then Curse of the Crimson Throne - and in both cases I ended up playing something else to fit the party needs.

Semenya is a Half Orc Brass Draconic Sorcerer. She is ideally geared for an urban game where she's stealthy enough to work with the party rogue.

Shadow Lodge

Well, there are six of us who are interested. Myself, Gandal, Fatty, jamie noon, BoggBear, AdAstraGames. Are any of you potentially interested in GMing? Jamie, GMing a campaign might actually be a good introduction to the campaign setting for Pathfinder. As I said earlier, if the GM doesn't have the books for an Adventure Path, I'm willing to pay for them and send the files to said GM. Anybody have a particular AP they'd like to play?

Well, as I said, I'd play any one of them aside from Legacy of fire, and I'd rather avoid being the gm too, I haven't had a chance to be a player for some time.

Shadow Lodge

So that leaves Serpent's Skull, Second Darkness, and Legacy of Fire out. How about Curse of the Crimson Throne, Council of Thieves, or Kingmaker?

Either one of those would be fine with me, but isn't Gandal already playing in Kingmaker?

Shadow Lodge

He is. I suppose we could always throw a Homebrew campaign, too. I have a couple I can pass on to the GM, and they're open enough that they can be made somebody's own.

Yeah, I'd consider GMing. My two apprehensions about GMing are:

1) Time commitment - I expect it'd take more time each day than playing, and I expect I'd mostly be sneaking play in at the office; and

2) I'm not sure I'll be able to do justice to the descriptive elements.

I'd be more comfortable if we could try out a one-shot module before embarking on an AP, if I was to try GMing. Would anyone be interested in going that route for now?

Meaning something like a dry run to try it all out? Potentialy keeping our trial characters and using them for the fu`ll AP later on assuming the trial is a succes?

I wouldn't want to start the AP with higher level characters than it's designed for, so I think the options could be:

1) do the module with totally different characters
2) do the module with your planned AP character, but reboot him/her for the AP
3) do the module with a stat-twin of your planned AP character
4) just start an AP anyway, with the understanding that it may get ditched early due to time constraints or sucky GM storytelling

Most APs have an 'intro adventure' that gets the group from 1st to 2nd level. This can be easily replaced, though I think it'll be less work than what you propose.

I was thinking the first Goblin encounters in Rise of the Runelords was intended for that purpose, but I wasn't sure if all the APs followed that model. If the AP we choose has a similar pre-adventure, I'd be alright with starting that as our test - that way y'all are just creating one batch of characters and one backstory.

Well, as I've only played one of the AP's I can't really say anything about it, but it does strike me from what I've read in the various players guides to the AP that at least some of the first adventure in the series (sometimes the whole thing) is sort of a "Get into the feel of it" deal. I could be wrong of course

Liberty's Edge

Still looking for players? If so, I'm in.

Shadow Lodge

It seems to be a recurring mechanism that the first part of the APs is not only a "get into the mood/flavor" adventure, it's also a way to connect the characters to each other. I kind of like the idea of the AP starting characters being twinned characters of the ones from a module test-run. I can provide one or two of those, as well, although they're free downloads here. It could also be that we run those adventures, but gain no experience from it or do it as a sort of "Level 0" adventure, gaining a reason to become adventurers.

If this defo a recruiting thread and there is room i have a couple of submission i'ld interested in

Shadow Lodge

At the moment, it's more a question of who's going to GM. jamie noone, might you be interested in the position, or would you rather play this one? You seem to be the most inclined toward GM-ing this one at present.

I was thinking of running one soon. I was going to do RotRL, but am open to almost anything. Just letting you know though that this will be my first PbP as a GM and that I will try my best to post once per day, but am not going to require it if I won't be able to hold up my end.

Now that I look at it I think I would prefer to run Council of Thieves. Easier for me, being that it is already pathfinder ready. I have book 1 and 2.

I'ld like CoT, i prefer city plot AP's. Have had connection issues lately but now i'm back on track ; i could use a male human fighter ( flail and shield ) or female elf bard ( probably standard core bard, no APG variants )...for now i'll just follow this thread anyway

Shadow Lodge

Ah. Sounds like we have a GM. Shall we go for a CoT run, then? And there's a first time for everything, C H-P. I'm GM-ing my first two PBPs at the moment, too. I've just been having something of an itch to play instead of run. I'd be open to giving Sorcerer or Druid a try, or I can play something else depending on what's needed.

I was thinking I might try running Curse of the Crimson Throne, but if Celestial Half-Porc wants to run CoT, I'd be happy to play in that instead. I tend to prefer fighters and rogues, but I could play anything that the party needs.

I'd like to play my Blasty Sorceress, who was originally built for CoT.

I am playing in a CoT game already as a cleric - would that disqualify me? I'm very good about keeping information segregated.

I don't mind as long as no one else cares. I will have creation guidelines up sometime today.

Well great, I can't remember the last time I played an Urban adventure, maybe this time I could play my Cayden Cleric who was disqualified from the LoF campaign, or maybe a streetwise bard, actors are popular in Cheliax according to the players guide.

Play whatever you like. I do not have the APG at the moment, so it will have to be core rulebook only.

Core Races and Classes including Aasimar and Tiefling with resistances knocked down to +2 racial bonuses on saving throws for each energy type.
20 Point Buy
2 Traits (one from player’s guide)
Average starting gold by class

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

Ahh.

That kind of renders Semenya non-viable; she's built around the following options from the APG:

Sacred Tattoo & Sorcerer Favored Class Bonus

Deepsight

I plan on picking up the following feats over the course of her career:

Elemental Spell (Fire)
Intensified Spell

Sorry, just haven't been able to get my hands on one yet.

Not even as a PDF? (Or on the SRD?)

Let me check it out.

EDIT:

Looks good. I'll check out the rest of the character when I get the OOC thread started. I don't want to do more than 6, so Jlighter, Gandal, Fatty, jamie noone, BoggBear, AdAstraGames. The Eldritch Mr. Shiny will be on reserve.

i've already done 2 pcs ( as i said, a male human fighter and a female elf bard ) both sheets are done, only have to post them here, have no time right now but soon. Both have 1 trait from the CoT player guide and 1 from the apg. Will wait to see what the other want to play and will choose the fighter or the bard accordingly.
One stupid question, but reading the thread so far this group seems to be lacking main healer....can roll one cleric or one druid also and see.

Here is my bard then, I've taken one trait from the Cheliax Pathfinder Companion, hopefully that's no problem? Otherwise I'll just change it to something else.

Boggbear - Derek Keegan (Bard)
Jlighter - Sorcerer or Druid
Gandal - Fighter, Bard or Healer
AdAstraGames - Semenya Carbachon (Sorceress)
jamie noone - Fighter type or Rogue
Fatty - Magic user???

Here is my fighter, he is a street bred thug and muscle for hire. When he was 12( and he already was constantly fight with other boys of more or less same social lineage ) he had bad trouble with some real criminal for taking a normal street fight too close to a place where someone was doing something not meant for foreign eyes. He barely escaped with his life , unlike some of his rival. That taught him that his strength is being used in the wrong way, but also that he cannot rely on raw muscles alone so he spent some years learning more subtle ways and working as a bodyguard for nobles, in hope to uncover some of the secrets behind his city, after all he felt in part responsible. He is still waiting for his occasion.

20 points buy, 1 trait from player's guide (westcrown firebrand) and 1 from the apg (vagabond child). Haven't bought equip yet, waiting for more instruction.

Since Boggbear's bard ninjaed my own i think there is no point in presenting mine, will start working on a healer tomorrow morning( Italy-gmt +1 )

Yeah sorry chum, but if you really feel like playing a bard I can let you take it and do my other idea.

BoggBear wrote:

I hope i didn't give the wrong feeling, i'm not offended a bit. I have anyway to roll a healer depending on what the group needs, so let's see what our other PCs are. And as i said on top of the thread the main tank is one of my favored roles.

If jlighter still doesn't mind playing a druid, I can get a rogue ready tomorrow.

Shadow Lodge

I'll throw together a Druid. Prep guidelines as I'm seeing them:

Races: Core + Aasimar' and Tiefling' (' indicating slightly reduced in power)
Abilities: 20-point-buy
Classes: Core preferably
Wealth/Gear: Average for class
Traits: 1 normal, 1 campaign.

Putting together based on those guidelines. If I got mixed up on something, let me know, but I should have it ready by tomorrow (read: after 12:01 AM GMT-8). I'll see what I can do to gear it toward healing.

I am open to APG stuff as long as I can see it here d20pfsrd.

OOC thread open, so lets move it over there. Thanks
