Bane Weapons and Damage Reduction

Rules Questions

Do bane weapons ignore that creature types damage reduction?

For insance, a barbed devil has damage resistance 5/good or silver.

If I was fighting a barbed devil would it have to be made out of silver to go through the damage reduction or is it enough to just be a devil bane weapon?

No.

In the example you'd need a holy or silver weapon.

P.S. Always have some Silversheen handy.

The only reason that I might say "possibly" is that this is sort of a corner case with the Barbed Devil. Since a +3 weapon bypasses DR/silver (and DR/cold iron) and a bane weapon is considered to have a bonus +2 higher than the weapon's base, it would, at minimum, be considered a +3 weapon. A +5 weapon (or a +3 bane weapon against an appropriate foe) over comes alignment based DR as well.

Of course the extra 2d6 would help make short work of the DR anyway...

Nice catch Mauril.

So in this case it works, but ordinarily, no.

hmmmm...

I would say in that particular case yes.

Bane: A bane weapon excels against certain foes. Against a designated foe, the weapon's enhancement bonus is +2 better than its actual bonus. It also deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against the foe. To randomly determine a weapon's designated foe, roll on the following table.

since you need to have a +1 weapon to enchant it, a bane weapon is at least +3

a +3 weapon will count as silver, so it should overcome the DR.

a +1 golem bane weapon on the other hand, would not bypass the dr on an iron golum, since it would need to be +5 to be adamantite.

Admantine is a +4, so it would take a +2 golem bane weapon.

Alignment based DR is at +5.

Where's the chart? I was looking all over for it and couldn't find it. (not bad going from memmory though)
