I want to turn into a Giant Frog.....

Rules Questions

Ok, so I'm making a dwarf druid with the Earth domain. This is almost purely a flavor build, vice a power build, so please keep that in mind. I WANT to turn him into a Giant Frog when he gets wildshape. The primary reason is the long tongue and swallow whole. Lets face it, it's just a funny visual to get 'et by a dwarf. I know I won't get that as a beast shape 1 equivalent, but what level beastshape/wildshape do you feel would be most appropriate to get that kind of ability? Help me fellow Paizonians, you're my only hope....

Beast Shape I-IV (and thus wildshape) don't give push, pull, or swallow whole.

At best you will be swallowing squirrels and similar harmless tiny animals as part of character flavor.

Of course Pull and Swallow Whole are not available under any Beast Shape spell.
However, let's see where they might best fit in.
BSI grants low-light vision and scent.
BSII adds grab, pounce, and trip.
BSIII adds constrict, ferocity, jet, poison, rake, trample, and web.
BSIV adds breath weapon, rend, roar, and spikes.

It would seem reasonable to me to add pull to II, and swallow whole to either III or IV.

Is there any agreement as to whether Beast Shape into a giant frog grants the Tongue attack?

Hence the question my friend. Reading is fundamental ;)And swallow whole is up to one size category smaller than the critter, so I can nom on goblins all day :)

And I don't know if this question has been asked before, so I doubt there is a consensus on the tongue attack. I'd say it is equivalent to the reach/Str boost from becoming large.

There are quite a few abilities we have started talking about adding to the various polymorph spells in my group.. Ink cloud for squid and octopi, and rage for the wolverine are a couple of examples, as well as allowing case by case access to the young and giant templates for creatures for the druid. In reference to your question, I would throw Pull into BS2 as well, and swallow whole into BS4. Also, I would suggest that a frog or chameleon's tongue is a vital part of that creature, and so a shapechanged character would get that attack.

I am glad that they tried to lower the power of polymorph, but the way it was done does not allow for some very common sense applications of it, and because of that, I give, or ask, for a lot of leeway when it comes to the specifics... yes it takes a bit of extra time to work it out the first time around (what animal gets which ability? *scribble scribble*) but once you have it down on paper it shouldn't be an issue.

I agree with the levels you suggest. One interesting question has come up: How does a creature who swallows others whole get rid of the indigestible bits? And assuming a Giant Frog ha a larger stomach capacity than a standard dwarf, would I have to spit out the dead thing in order to shift back to humanoid form and avoid damage?

You would need to enchant your stomach to give it the wild property so it will still give you bonuses. Or better yet swallow a bag of holding, but I would suggest getting a ring of sustenance also as the BoH would probably screw with your digestion. When the bag gets full you can just puke it up and collect the phat loot.

On a serious note ... ( I have nothing )

You so rarely do :)

hahaha, at least I sent you a link ;)

Throwing up the undigestible bits seems the most likely course of action... though I would hazard a guess and say that not only the undigestible bits would come up before you shapechange back, but lots of nasty meat and fat, as you wouldn't have nearly enough time to digest it all... The way I would do it is 2 fold. A) you can throw up any medium creature you swallowed any time you choose as a full round action, large takes 1 round, small takes a move action, etc. B) as you change back to your normal form you begin to violently expel everything from your stomach that wouldn't fit into your natural form, taking 1d6 non-lethal damage for every medium sized creature in there, and gaining the sickened condition for 1 minute.

I am now chuckling at this whole idea. I mean, really, we just crowdsourced rules to throw up armor :) Thanks for the input.

Be careful- the French might invite you to... dinner.

Here's a related question, does this count as cannibalism, and as such is it considered both a chaotic and evil act? Would you have to periodically atone to regain your druidic abilities?

I can see the argument for cannibalism being evil--though it still comes from a cultural values perspective, as does pretty much all of the good/evil divide--but how is it chaotic? Non-lawful, certainly, if there are laws against it, or even social customs, but ignoring a law is not the same thing as chaos.

I would also say that it's culturally acceptable that giant frogs eat goblins, so that would also make it shade towards neutral.
