Round 1: Magus

Liberty's Edge

Thought maybe we should have a discussion of possible issues this class may have as a multi-class. There has been a lot of discussion about Eldritch Knight, and some limited discussion of the broad study arcana, but a class such as this could have a lot of crossover implications. For example.

Magus into Mystic Theurge.

You could qualify at the 3rd level of Magus with three levels of Cleric, allowing you access to both Divine and Arcane magic while wearing light armor, and having the spell combat ability. How would this interact with the spell synthesis capstone? Is this an issue?

These are the types of questions I want to look at in this thread, to make sure we don't have any loopholes that could lead to problems, particularly with the broad study arcana allowing spell combat from other spellcaster classes.

4th level Magus? It needs 2nd level arcane spells.

Sorry, brainfart. Same question and issues.

Open a window next time. :P

I wouldn't want to multiclass out of Magus, typically, especially not to let my BAB suffer into the higher levels. The -4 to hit really hurts on spell combat for such a heavily multi-classed character. You'd only have a 5 at 8th level and would only go up by half from that point forward.

On top of needing a good wisdom for spells too, most Mystic Theurge builds are going to lack high physical scores. It doesn't seem like a very useful build to me, and I'd probably still go Cleric-Evoker-MT for basically the same effect.

Magus seems like one I'd want to stick with long term.

You make a very good point. The more I look around, the more it seems Jason and the crew did an excellent job of making sure the Magus doesn't have any loopholes when moving into the other classes. I was worried that with some of the classes requiring martial weapon proficiency it may be a shortcut, but keeping it 3/4 BAB seems to have made it an equal (if not inferior) choice to fighter in one off dips.

Good job developers!
