Multiclassing between Archetypes in the same class?

Rules Questions

Is it possible to multiclass between archetypes? For instance, could you have a 12th level character that was Fighter level 2 / Fighter (Mobile Fighter) level 3 / Fighter (Two Handed Weapon) level 7?

No.

Oh. Pity about that but I guess there might be some potentially broken builds hidden amongst the archetypes if it was allowed.

Reasoning? Just curious if you have any rules citations that back up your no.

Page 72 of the APG

"Most of the options presented on the following pages
include a host of alternate class features. When a character
selects a class, he must choose to use the standard class
features found in the Core Rulebook or those listed in one of
the archetypes presented here."

The choice of the class features happens after the choice of the class. So in order to become 1level fighter / 1level Fighter (Mobile Fighter) you have to choose two times the 1st level of the Fighter class. The choice of the same level of a class is prohibited by the core book. For example you cannot become 1 fighter/ 2 ranger / 1 ranger.

In that way the answer is No.
Best wishes and happy gaming.

No.. not any more than you could multi-class between Wizard specialties.

It is possible to take more than one archetype as long as the second archetype does not modify or replace any of the class features that were modified or replaced by the first archetype.

Question, is that right as it seems like it could be powerful?

It's stated in the rules that you can do so. But for some classes, it's very difficult to do.

As long as there is no overlap then it's fine. For instance, Senei and Tetori are Monk archetypes that both replace the flurry of blows class feature so you can't have both. For the fighter almost every Archetype replaced Weapon training, Armor training or both, so you can usually only take one of them. As an example of two you can take look at the Invulnerable Rager and the Urban Barbarian, eventhough you can replace almost every class ability it is legal.

IR replaces uncanny dodge, improved uncanny dodge, trapsense and DR. UB replaces fast movement, and alters class skills, proficiencies and all rages. The only class feature that an Urban Invulnerable Rager has in common with the normal Barbarian is Indomitable Will and Tireless Rage, but it is a completely legal build. Neither can overlap with the Breaker however b/c that would overlap (on Fast Movement for UB and Trapsense for IR).

Better question: Would there be issues if you could?
I think there wouldn't be any issues (other than rogues taking Ninja levels to stack Sneak attack)

Yes, there would. Which replacement ability would you get?

You might be able to work something out with your GM, but in general, it tends to hit one of the archetypes with a nerfbat, since losing that new ability may also hurt that archetype's other abilities.
