I want to know how much of your lead is painted? I went hog-wild years ago and I got enough lead to make me a master minis painter by the time I'm done.
So am I a freak or do you buy forward on minis too?

I'll go through my minis this week... I've only been painting for about a year, so have about 10 that I consider 'done'. When I first started, I picked up all the minis I could out of clearance sales for practice, which lead to lots of extra minis floating around that I'm either never going to paint, or will only use when teaching others to paint (I've got my little brother raiding my minis box to find something to paint at least once a week). I figure about 30% of my figures are painted, only 10% by me.
For those interested, I've found the wizards DDM Hill giant barbarian from the War Drums expansion to be a really good thing to prime over and begin shading - it has skin-tones, wood, leather, and (I think) fur, all on large scale, perfect for a beginner. I primed over the wizards paint job, and went at it.

About 60 unpainted (plus about 100 W40K and LotR Plastic Minis), and somewhere around 600 Painted Minis (I don't detail faces or do shadings, though). Although I collect and paint Minis for about 15 Years, I painted most of them within half a year, when a diabetic foot syndrome kept me at home (after four month in hospital). Otherwise I guess the ratio would be the other way round...
Out of 100's if not 1000's of mini I have less than 5% painted. I collected them constantly over a period of 15 years but switched to pre-painted plastics in 2003.
Recently I have considered getting into painting minis but my skills (never good) have deterioated to nothing now.
I have no way of making an accurate count that doesn't involve unboxing and uncrating many, many painted minis.... :p

I think mine break down about so:
Too lazy to get an accurate count. Also some of the minis came in a big set and will likely never be painted. I did go a bit crazy for a while buying but when my unpainted inventory gets too high I throttle my buying a lot. Also, money's been tight lately so more painting and less buying.
I've owned one miniature in my life. It wasn't painted.

The term, I'm told, is "figmentia."
Far, far, far more acquired than painted.
Far, far, more prepped for priming than painted.
Far more primed than painted.
More painted than finished.
Total minis finished: about five. Three Reaper figures as gifts for others, one Warmachine Ironclad, and one Privateer Press Viktor Pendrake, the latter of which is another gift.
I find it harder to finish things for myself.

I usually buy way too many and end up giving a bunch of them away. Since I'm a player most of the time I never really get around to painting NPCs or monsters. The plastic mini industry has been a blessing IMO when it comes to care/transportation (of monsters) and the amount of time it would've taken to paint all of them.

Thanks! That is a vintage golf ball display case that I picked up in a yard sale for a couple of bucks. I hope to one day paint it and make it look even cooler.
