I generally get 6 hours, though it's sometimes as few as 5. This is a function of having 2 children and a full time job.
As I get older (I'm 32), I'm finding that it's NOT enough. I do much better on 7 or 8 hours, and during the few times when I can sleep as long as I want to, I generally sleep 10 hours. I assume that's just my body making up for the abuse I put it through.

I've found that I need at least a couple hours by myself after I awake in the morning, else I'm ineffective at everything until late afternoon. Anyone else seemingly unable to function without such a long period of gearing up?
I'm able to sleep on command--no issues of insomnia. I dream immediately, which I know is not generally healthy. A five minute doze can leave me feeling like I slept for hours, mentally, but does nothing for me physically.
Left to my own devices, I can easily sleep for 12 hours or more. Less than seven hours is simply not enough.

I usually get 6-8 hours of sleep. As I always work nights/very, very early mornings I've had to experiment a bit to come up with the optimal formula for when and how much. What I've learned is that the when isn't that important (though it's certainly nice to not have to go straight from bed to work), but what really matters is to get it all in one go. I tried splitting it up into two 4-hour periods (one after work, one during the evening before work) but had to stop because I was bone weary all the time and noticed that it began to affect my mood (I was suffering from depression in my late teens and early twenties, so am very careful about not feeling down for long periods).

Not as interesting a topic as I thought...
It can be. I have a friend that gets by on 5-6 hrs a night because his metabolisim is so jacked up. He eats like a lion and never gains weight and needs less sleep because his body is so ramped up.
Me I'm 40 and get around 7 to 8 a night, last night I was tired so I went to bed early and got 10. I no longer feel a sickness comeing on so maybe I fought off a bug by getting more rest.

A while back I was suffering stress (I wont name the source but I hope he takes a bullet) and couldnt sleep. Four days without sleep of any kind then reduced to 3 hours every 48 hour cycle for a month, and it wasnt pleasant.
But hey I know sleep is assumed to be natural but it is a shutdown period of neurological and chemical production. The Brain should in reality require no sleep. So I wonder what causes the need for sleep...
I will laugh if they find sleep is caused by a virus that builds up toxic levels of some brain chemical and it all has to shut down to purge the chemicals from the system before reboot.
That would realy make Scientists and Doctors thus far Spinach peddling twats.

How much sleep do you get every day? Is it enough? Do you take naps? Anyone suffering from a dysfunction?
This is a thread to discuss anything related to sleep.
Right now I'm running on two hours of sleep, two pots of coffee, and a 20 oz. diet coke.
Whee!
(Right now, I'm veritably vibrating with energy, but the crash is coming, I can feel it...)

I need 8-9 hours a night to feel really rested. Usually I can still function on less, just feel tired, but that becomes less and less true as I get older.
I am usually good on about 5.
