A player of mine wanted to get an oathbow, but we weren't sure about this clause: "After an enemy has been sworn, the bow is treated as only a masterwork weapon against all foes other than the sworn enemy, and the archer takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls with any weapon other than the oathbow. These bonuses and penalties last for 7 days or until the sworn enemy is slain or destroyed by the wielder of the oathbow, whichever comes first."
Basic question is, does the oathbow's wielder have to slay the target, or can anyone?

I think the correct interpretation of the syntax here is [7 days] OR [slain or destroyed]+[by the wielder].
Not [7 days] OR [slain] OR [destroyed by the wielder].
So if somebody other than the wielder kills your sworn enemy, then you either have to raise/animate him and kill him yourself, or suffer those penalties for the full 7 days.

Killed means actually killed, not KOed. So if Thungax the barbarian hits your oathbow target with 18 Con to -8, he's likely waiting for you to walk over with your emo elfbow and cap him in the head, just like a gangsta Legolas would do if he was as angsty as the oathbow demands, at the end of the combat.

You don't have to be angsty to really want someone dead. Fear will do it as well, like an arachnophobe freaking out and killing a giant spider. My personal favorite is pride though, he insulted you, thus you feel the need to show him why that's a terrible idea, so you kill him, or maybe his mere presence offends you. Rage also works fine. Professionalism works great also, you were paid to kill that guy and have a fancy bow to do it with, so you swear an oath to collect your reward.

"You" means you, not your allies.
.
Interesting. This makes it sort of random if you are cursed or not.I suppose you will automatically know if the opponent is dead yet,
since the bow will start working again against your other enemies.

Or you could just watch the combat and see whose damage killed the creature you swore to kill? Or give it the killing blow once it's dropped to negatives.
