I meant the subject, not the actual child. I know the kid was dead! The less people that know, the better, y'know? Anyways, back to IC posts.

And, you're welcome, Willpower. Glad to have you back.

Watching Suny twirl and dance away Kai smiles his toothy grin shaking his head he ponders on strange thoughts and new feelings, he is shocked out of his whimsical thoughts with the sudden arrival of Garth landing on deck. Garth's landing caused Kai's heart to skip a beat and his frills had snapped out like an umbrella that was too opened too quickly. Hoping no one was around to see his shame, he tries to recover his composure as Garth makes his report. After thanking him for his help Kai was just getting into motion when the Captain hailed. "Aye Captain! Let me prepare ssome ssuppliess and I will return!"

With that he quickly moves below deck and grabs up some of the rations and hard tack foods and enters the Surgeons room in search of bandages or possibly a kit. His excitement is almost palpable as he moves about the lower decks collecting what he needs, he also spreads the news to those who didn't understand the Captains shout and tries to keep people in positive spirits. He places his gathered goods in an empty sack and packs them with care, with his supplies stowed he moves to his room and grabs up his darkwood bow, with 20 arrows, and slings it across his back. After strapping on his darkwood shield and securing his shortspear he grabs up the sack of supplies and makes his way back on deck to join everyone at the helm.

As he approaches everyone at the helm he looks like he is geared for battle and is carefully carrying a small sack. His chest rumbles with silent laughter as his excitement is barely contained, he looks to the faraway dot and barks with joy. "It iss a good day once again! Hopefully the fatess have willed a happy meeting thiss day after sso much woe." He looks almost humble as he says something in the tongue of the ancients and then stands silently rumbling with unsaid laughter as he awaits the Captains orders.

His face holds this false smiling, and closes his eyes for a moment.

"Kai! Nerine! Suny! To the helm!" He cries.

Suny bounces to attention at the captains call, with a nod and a wink to her friends she turns and bounds along the deck, leaps the stairs to the aft-castle two at a time and skids to a halt beside the helm, her figure almost vibrating with excitement.

DM: (@ Darius & crew and Pantera & crew)
Both ships can see off in the distance the other ship. You were close to 3 miles when your first spied each other. I am assuming that Pantera is still heading in that direction and moving the ship closer. Once you reach the 2 mile marker you all get a bad feeling that washes over everyone aboard The Brotherhood. The wind is starting to die down and the red sun bears down almost angrily.

Knowledge(nature) DC 15 to read this spoiler:

If you can't make a DC 15+ you cannot use this info IC.

You are entering an area known as a Dead Calm. (Stormwrack page 13) Ships that enter can become trapped and never escape due to supernatural curses. You have time to avoid this area with successful a Profession(sailor) check. Anyone making this DC, and reading this, can easily relay the info to those on deck.

At the 2 mile out marker some details become clearer, it is indeed another ship, slightly smaller that your own with a single mast. It is unmoving, even with a full sail out. There's some activity on deck, but you can't yet make out what's happening.

At this time the crew of Sea Born can spy a much larger ship approaching, and continue with their plan, or wait to see what happens.

Creatures/Players outside of The Brotherhood:

You start to have trouble breathing the water, the more you travel towards the other ship the harder it is to draw air from the water.

Nerine:

Nice roll.

Your check did well enough to realize that it is a combination of "Deal Calm" and a ring of "Airless water." That's usually a death sentence for a ship caught in one.

You are not currently in the areas main concentration, so you still have time to avoid both hazards, and your warning should be enough to steer clear. Assuming the captain heeds your warning the ship will be safe from entering this hazard.

If you wish to investigate further please let me know how you do this.

With the feeling of dread washing over him he reacts instinctively, raising his shortspear and brandishing his shield against unseen foes. Nerine's sudden warning causes Kai to look back towards the ship, bringing him to his sense and he lowers his shortspear. Never before had he heard of such things concerning water, their were the gas filled cesspools in the swamps and jungles of his homeland but they were just uncomfortable to be around. Dead water though was an interesting term, the waterborne proved again and again to be more knowledgeable then he first thought.

"Why can they not leave? All I ssee iss water before my eyess, can't one sswim through it?" He looks at Nerine with a perplexed look and his scaled forehead furrowed.

Almost as soon as his crew had assembled before him, Pantera heeded the advice of his fellow sailors - that's what crew were for, eh?

He bolted back to the helm, shoved the man off violently, and grasped it, screaming out at the top of his lungs, "HANG ON! Swift turn to port!"

He took the wheel in his firm hands, and spun it violently, the wheel looking more like a discus at how fast it span, and he'd soon grasp it to keep it from turning the ship on its side. He gritted his teeth at having to do this, but he would surely be forgiven.

Nerine barely has time to grab on to something before the Captain tilts the ship in his attempt to try to avoid the Dead Water.

"It's not just the water." She breathes as she stands again. "The air here doesn't move either, there are no winds to fill the sails. We got out before it's too late."

As the crew return from below deck Darius casually lifts one hand overhis brow to shield his eyes from the sun. Can he believe he see's what he thinks he see's, another ship! How is that possible the sea was seemingly endless? But the why doesn't matter now, all that does is how he reacts at this moment.

"Everyone...." he pauses as he thinks for the words to say. "We may not be the only ones in this damnable ocean afterall" as darius points to the large black figure on the horizon for everyone else to see.

"But lets not forget what where trying to do ehh, remember we don't know who they are, if they bring salvation or doom...so lets prepare ourselves just in case!" Darius voice carried caution overlaying the hope he felt swelling at the bottom of his gut. "What have we learned about trying to hold on to hope? It never lasts"

Darius moves to his chest containing his remaining possesions and deftly equips his trusty sword and collection of daggers, as he does he speak's with iron certainty:Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
"Belros, Cassandra, Liam prepare yourselfs for visitors, we will have to be cautious and not allow our hopes to get the better of us, we may need to defend ourselves!"

Four-o-Four and Applejuice, please continue with our original plan we may need to move on the moments notice and any momentum may be worth while!

Darius unconciously looks toward Keev still under the aftcastle, he new he wasn't a very religious man but if there were any gods in this new world he hoped they would here his prayer at this very moment; "please, let us live"

At that moment Darius will set to work aiding Four-O-Four and Applejuice with the makeshift oar. hopefully showing an example of fortitude in this situaiton that would inspire the others to take to focusing on their tasks.

As the ship heels Suny hangs onto the railing. Not that she's afraid of going over the side, just that swimming to keep up with the ship in full combat harness would be hard work after wards.

You can make out activity on both decks, but the distance is much to see with great detail what is going on.

Garth:(to Nerine/crew) "Is it wise to fly over and see what we can do to help, or does this Dead Calm extend to the air as well? What other kinds of trouble can we expect?"

Male Half-elf, aquatic Swashbuckler 3

He thinks. His hand taps his chin firmly, as he previous thoughts have since been vanquished by the sudden turn. He does smile, and begin another plan.

"That's an excellent idea, Garth. Though we know nothing of either side, or if the Dead Calm does extend to the air or not... If you feel anything, anything at all, you should return to this deck.

"However! I do wonder if you're strong enough to lift another person up with you? If that's at all possible, I want you to take me with you - we need to start negotiations of some sort with that boat. If they need help, then we should give it to them."

He looks around at the assembled crew members, and nods firmly - he seems to look for feedback, however.

After recovering from the drastic turn Kai comes to stand back near the ships wheel and listens to the conversations. He ponders for a moment before speaking.

"Captain, why not usse the rowboat insstead? Then we can row to their sship, load up what we can and return to the Brotherhood? Then we don't have to rissk Garth at leasst, I don't mean to shame you friend Garth only that if you and the Captain hit the water before you can recover. Then we would be more fouled up in thiss... sstrange... trap?"

Kai raises the sack he had prepared and opens it just enough to show whats inside. A few waterskins, some hard tack food, rations and a healers kit (borrowed) from Avions infirmary. "It wouldn't take more than a few minutes to get there. But I can do so now if you are ready."

Upon hearing Kai's words he ponders.

"Hrm, yes I do believe Blue Eye's can be without a bed for a bit, I'll talk to him if you like, or try to. He doesn't speak common does he?"

DM: Garth is referring to the row boat on the aft where Blue Eye's the Sahuagin spends his time. I could fly with you regardless and be an extra set of hands either way.

With his head rested in his hands, Captain Pantera thinks further on the matter. He moves to the railing, and rests his hands on it... and remembers something.

He reaches to his hip, and unfolds his spyglass (smart idea), and peers through towards the boat in question. Before he begins to analyse whatever it is he sees, he smiles.

"The issue with the rowboat, Kai, is as Nerine said. If this ship could not traverse that distance in that water, what is to say it would? Flight seems to be our best option. Oh, and in case we haven't already, drop anchor - we'll sit here for now."

He peers forth mightily through the glass, and hopes to see some sign of life.

Kai ponders for a moment considering his Captains words and what Nerine had said earlier. "Perhapss I have misunderstood but our rowboat doesn't need air to move, only the sstrength of our back and power of our armss. Where if we have no wind to fill our ssailss then the Brotherhood is stuck, ssame ass yonder vessel, no?" He shakes his head, it was getting harder and harder for Kai to concentrate. He shrugs off the urge to rub his head again as he tried to form more concise thoughts, after a few moments he gives up and shrugs his shoulders. "It will be as it was mean't to be."

He salutes as he goes about helping to drop anchor and helping to maintain the ships current position away from the 'dead sea'. After the Anchor is settled, he rejoins everyone on the quarterdeck.

Nodding at the Captains order Kai turns to face whatever able bodied sailors may be nearby. Sometimes it was easy to forget he was the first mate and quartermaster, both roles he was still learning but somehow he enjoyed the duties and responsibilities that were required of him. Kai doesn't wait to see if any of them are moving, he only hoped they would take what he said seriously and performed their duties. He bows his head to any of the more notable crew members, that he's spoken to, and speaks to them as well. "I will be in your debt if you can help keep the Brotherhood safe while we are away, but if I assk to much then forgive my assking."

This is mainly for fluff as well, and I believed that just because we are going to help the other ship doesn't mean this ship sits stagnant while we are away.

The only problem with tying their ship to ours is that I don't think we have 1-2 miles worth of rope =/, unless I misunderstood the distance between the Brotherhood and the Sea Born. But we may have a chance if we tie the rowboat off to the Seaborn and use it to tow her out ;).

Kai'itza/DM:
Surely we in't that far apart? We're in yelling distance of each other? We should have enough rope to cover that. Liberty's Edge

Note: you are more than a mile away, you don't have that much rope. No way :)
Edit(rope): OK, if you cannibalize the rigging rope, I can see that, but it's gonna be a hard fix to re-rig the boat if you do that. You don't currently have however 1 piece more than a mile long. 1 mile = 5280 feet.

Garth tries to explain to Blue Eyes what is going on, and despite the language barrier Blue Eyes slinks into the sea with a nod. Giving a weary eye to the assembled crew before launching himself easy off the aft section and into the water with a graceful splash.

The small row boat is ready to ferry whomever wishes to take it to the other ship.

Waveflier cannot join you on the trip over however, as soon as she gets close to the 1.5 mile marker away from the Sea Born she too finds it impossible to breathe due to the 'airless water' effect around the ship.

Garth will be able to carry the captain, and in doing so he can arrive shortly before those coming via rowboat. (there are no air challenges here so this happens with no trouble.)

Both the captain and Garth can land on the deck now, and a few minutes later the rowboat can arrive.

He stretches and flexes his muscles while he waits for the others to gather. "Whenever you are ready ladiess." He bow his head to Nerine and Suny.

Within a minute of this very talking, he would land on that boat, and give a smirk, adjusting his tricorne to his head.

Flying high over the ocean blue, Captain Pantera was at the mercy of his aiding guest, Garth. The half-dragon seemed intent on cooperating for the time being, but for now, the Captain would firmly trust him - thus, the entire 'don't drop me or you'll regret it' issue that arose in his mind.

He sighed for the few moments as he was flown towards the other boat - he could easily tell how small it was on the landing approach. He looked up at Garth, and smirked.

"Hope you're ready - negotiations start as soon as we land. Stay close - I might need you to lift me out in case it goes sour."

Within a minute of this very talking, he would land on that boat, and give a smirk, adjusting his tricorne to his head.

"Greetings to all of you! I am Captain Pantera of the Brotherhood, and it is my pleasure to have met you this day! I have allies of mine coming in by sea soon, so I only have one question! Who is in charge here, so I may further discuss the terms of our cooperation in this dastardly time of survival?"

He hoped that would work - if not, he'd surely be in a hell of a problem.

Glancing up from his work with Four and Applejuice Darius raises a hand to shield his eyes from the sun in order to better glimpse the on coming shadow in the sky. Realizing that it might possibly be an envoy from the other ship Darius warily readies to present himself to their guest.

”Looks like they have decided to talk first!” Fighting down the survivors urge to reach for the grip of his sword he calmly asks everyone ”Everyone remain calm I’ll try to talk to them first but in case things go sour fast me must react quickly, although I’m not sure as to how that ship would take to hostages.”

Pointing to the ship in the distance. ”But it appears that they know something we don’t look at their range”

As the winged creature comes closer into view and Darius begins to make detail of the winged envoy’s draconic appearance he notes that he appears to be carrying a passenger, a rather well dressed fellow, perhaps somebody important from that ship, the captain maybe? This one has stones to show himself first given the circumstances. Talk would likely be first on list and here’s hoping it goes down smoothly.

”Cooperation, allies by sea” he sure gets down to business and doesn’t leave anything to chance, surely he is a ”Leader’.

Stepping forward keeping his tone even and assured so as to not give away his nervousness;
” I am Darius D. Drevard of the Sea Born, I wish I could welcome you under better, well circumstances as they are I am afraid I cannot offer you a drink but…

Darius holds out is hand in a gesture of greeting while silently observing the man standing before him gauging his every move a fact that may be betrayed by his eyes.

"Welcome aboard, Captain"

Liberty's Edge

Just a quick DM note, No problems with the Captain's arrival. He and Garth or officially on the deck of Sea Born, a much smaller sized vessel (Cog from Storm Wrack)

DM Narration: Aboard the Sea Born the air is oppressively hot, and stale. The sun seems more intense here, and there is a uneasy stillness to the area. The single mast sits motionless in the absence of any kind of wind, and no life seems to stir here.

Garth, a medium sized silver half-dragon, stands at attention near the captains side as he surveys the crew. he is very concerned with the apparently dire situation. He tries to remain calm, but is fidgeting and sniffing the air without quite nailing down whatever it is he thinks he feels.

That is an eerie description. o.O

Captain Pantera reaches forth, his hand gloved and firmly clasping the wrist of Darius; a firm shake that tested to see if he hid a dagger 'neath his sleeve with a feel. He wore a grin, and did indeed notice the small details in his eyes.

"Thank you for the offer, Mr. Drevard. Before we begin, I have a few questions - such as, are you from this world? How did you end up stranded in this area? Just some small things, Mr. Drevard. Oh, and before I forget, this is my associate, Garth. He'll be my guardian abord your vessel - I also have a few of my other crewmates on their way, so we may conduct a full set of negotiations and inspection. We're not lookin' to pillage you, if you're getting that nerve - so relax!"

He gave a wink, and released his wrist, taking a stance in his full garb, grin still planted on his face.

”Ohh look how smug this one is, you see that so proud stance like he’s on top of the world, oh I’m a “captain” and have a crew and power so matter of factly like that, and then that smile…just punch him already please…”

Darius take note of the captains poise and straight forwardness ;” We are from a doomed world that has since ended and we are lost plain and simple, those you see before you are all the remain of the Sea Born’s crew, the rest either left some time ago in search of help and haven’t returned or taken the means of their end into their own ends.”

A quick glance at the tall half-dragon to his visitor’s side…
“This damnable ocean seemed to be in league with the demonic plague we fought so hard to leave behind to a new life just to end like this…well until you arrived” ”punch him, punch him punch him”

”Is your friend alright, he seems rather uncomfortable?”

Darius then stands hands at his side and a look in his eye and an eye brow raised, a look of calm yet slight puzzlement at the appearance of one who seems rather physically strong and healthy yet…nervous. Darius attempts to focus his thoughts away from instinctively drawing his blade, the situation is to tense to act so harshly, too many lives on the line to risk a foolish, nervous fight.

For those in the Jolly-boat:
Suny sings a chantey to help lift spirits and keep time on the oars.

"So! Bend ye back and row me lads, and take me to me whale. Tonight we sing'n dance, and to-morrow night we sail..." (^_^)

Maybe a perception check to hear us commin'? (^_~)

Lizardfolk

Aboard the Jolly-boat:

It was awkward at first because he had never rowed before but it proved easy to learn after a few moments of getting familiar with the oars. Although they looked fragile the oars proved very stout once he started rowing. Kai chuckles at the strange shanty Suny sings as he rows their small craft with powerful strokes.

I'm assuming Nerine is with us but thats up to her ;) she is pretty quick at swimming =D

Oh i'm sure they can see us coming lol not hard to miss a Rowbaot speeding towards them lol ;)

Good luck Captain, don't get sucker punch! Darius sounds like a devious fella, probably got a good haymaker/uppercut combo~

Female Halfling Druid 3

Nerine gasps as she surfaces about halfway to the ship.

"Damn curses.." She mutters as she swims through the water, defintely not enjoying the swim.

Suny, noticing Nerine's plight, drops a rope over the side.

"Hitch a ride, luv. Ye don't weigh that much." (^_^)

DM: It is eerily calm and quiet. The crew has no trouble spotting your arrival when you get there.

*nods* All righty, then.

As the Jolly-boat comes along side the hull of the cog, Suny calls up to those on deck,

"Lend a hand! Lower yer ropes!" While deftly using her oar to steady the Jolly-boat from banging and thumping against the cog's hull. Once the ropes are lowered and their small vessel is tied off, Suny scampers up the side of the ship.

Climb:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14(With the rope adding a bonus, +2 maybe?)

Once upon deck, she stands beside the railing as the others climb. Looking around, her smile does dim...

"Well, this be a sorry sight t'see. Glad I am we're here t' help!" She declares, then looks towards Devannis Pantera & Darius D. Drevard,

"Permission t' come a'board, Cap'n!?" She calls perfunctorily.
