Hey all!
I'm new to pathfinder, played my 1st game yesterday at a society game and loved it. That said, I wasn't too kean with my character. I was playing a rogue, I loved the wide array of skills, the fluff associated with them and the combat tactics. That said I defiantly felt like the weakest link. Here is what I did with him:

Human
19 dex 10 str 12 con 12 int 8 cha. I may of fubared a number in there.
Weapon finesse and two weapon fighting feats.
Using a rapier and shortsword.

I'm not looking to be optimized per say. But the damage and combat utility on the this poor guy is so low. I.e had a scythe wielding fighter critic a power hit for 60 DMG. Anyhow any advice, direction or perhaps pointing me towards a good guide would be appreciated.

You made one of the most common mistakes for makeing a melee rogue. You dumped strength for a high dex. Generally, I recommend at least a 14 str for any melee character, and you will miss the bonus damage. Your strength will prevent you from picking up power attack, but rogues only use that against low AC foes.

Don't be worried about comparing yourself to the scythe crit, he probably overkilled it by 40 points anyway. The rapier will be doing crits more frequently, but it will average the exact same ammount over time (a 18-20 averages the same as a X4).

1 common tactic with TWF rogues is to double up on the weapon focus feats by using 2 of the same weapon. Usually either Kukri or Shorswords. Since you will not be dealing enough damage for the increased crit range to exceed the +1 average damage, I would go with the short swords for a while.

Rogues get more milage out of hit bonuses than damage bonuses. This is because they already have high damage from sneak attack, but their hit values are low, being the only martial class that does not get bonuses to hit. Straight enhancement magic items are better than things like flaming.
