Our party's cleric recently banished an efreet from the Material Plane during a session of Legacy of Fire. Efreeti, of course, have the Plane Shift ability, so should it be able to come right back (within the 5-500 mile limitation of Plane Shift, that is)? The PFRPG RAW for Banishment doesn't say anything about how long the target must remain banished, nor does the 3.5 WotC version.
And what if the efreet has some kind of teleportation item, or has wizard levels, or otherwise has the ability to teleport, would Banishment only keep it away for a couple of rounds? I thought I remembered there once being some kind of time limitation, like 24 hours, before a banished creature could return, but now I can't find anything about it.

If the spell does not say they have to stay away for a certain amount of time they can come back whenever they want granted they have the means to do so.
Banishment is mostly for outsiders like demons and devils that dont have a way to get back, so for most outsiders it is permanent.

Duration: Instantaneous
After being banished nothing prevents the Efreeti from returning if he has the power to do so.The 24 hours limitation may be part of the Summoning rules (still part of Pathfinder). If the creature was a summoned monster then read the spell used and the summoning rules.
Ah, I bet that is what I was thinking of. Thanks for the feedback.
