Half-Fiend / Celestial Spell-Like Abilities?

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

How are the spell-like abilities of a Half-Fiendish/Half-Celestial determined? It says they get them based of of their HD, but there is no mention of using racial or class HD for this.

You use the total number of HD (racial + class) for the creature with the template.

Generally you use the racial hit dice only unless specified other wise. I would love to see a quote to otherwise though, as I could be wrong.

Well, HeroLab has it going off of both. I got the same thing for a 3rd level human Cleric as a Bugbear without any class levels.

But I'd prefer an answer form other people, instead of a computer program.

Does the usage of both/either Racial and/or Class HD seem to make the Half-Fiend stronger?

Published Half-Fiends from 3.5 adventures always had it going off both racial and class HD, so it should still be like that.

Edit: Actually, not just the ones from adventures. The example Half-Fiend in the Monster Manual gets spell-like abilities, and it has no racial HD.
