Another Alchemist question concerning level

Some the discoveries have a level requirement, so does that mean he has to be a 8th level alchemist to pick fast bombs, or say a 2nd level fighter and a 6th level alchemist to pick up fast bombs?

Class abilities that refer to level always mean class level unless explicitly stated otherwise.

In other words, if it says "requires level 8" and is an Alchemist ability, you have to be level 8+ in the Alchemist class.
