Rageing with the Stag Lord

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I have a hypothetical question.. I was “playtesting” the Stolen Lands adventure, with a bunch of pcs I had rolled up. I wanted to see how tough the module was before I run it later on this year.

One of the PCs, a half orc barbarion 1 /rogue 2, with a 14 constitution, (18 while rageing) was in a flanking position with the Stag lord, and fighting him. He was at 5 hit points. I had noted aside the 6 temporary hit points he gets while raging. He then took 20 points of damage from the Stag lord’s long sword. the critical hit was 11 points of damage, and the second hit was 9 points of damage. The stag lord got a confirmed critical and a normal hit on the barbarian. The Barbarian has three rounds of rageing left. He also has Orcish ferocity.
What happens next?

Thanks

He's at -15, and has one round to get patched up or he's a goner. As he has a round before he goes unconcious, he can act this round in the normal restricted way Ferocity lets you act (staggered I believe).

Rage doesn't give temporary hit points.

So, he's at 5 HP.
First hit knocks him to -6.
Second hit knocks him to -15.
Now he's still alive thanks to per orcish ferocity, but can still fight as if disabled (which is just like staggered).
If he swings, he goes to -16.
If he moves away, he stays at -15.
At the end of his turn, he drops from rage. He loses 4 Con, loses 6 hit points and drops to -21 and dies.

EDIT: To demonstrate:
Barbarian, level 1, rages. 15 HP before raging, rages, goes to 17. If he ends rage, he goes to 15.
Before -- During -- Damage -- Leaves Rage
15 ......... 17 ........ 3 ........ 12
10 ......... 12 ........ 10 ........ 0

Basically when he leaves rage, it's as if he's taking Con damage equal to the amount he gains while he rages-- he immediately loses the penalty (-2) times his hit dice from his current HP value. It's why barbarians are extremely fragile at levels past 10-- A barbarian at level 12 with Greater Rage (+6 con) drops to -1, goes unconcious, and immediately loses 36 HP and goes to -37 and dies. Barbarian explosion effect.

I believe he was talking about the 'theoretical' hit points gained from raging. Sure you gain them at the start of rage, but they go away at the end of rage so you'd be a fool to count on them. Or yellow clerics.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the Kingmaker forum? Or the title adjusted with "Kingmaker spoiler"?

Thank you all for your posts.

Yes I noted the hit points gained from the boost to constitution separately. I’m not sure weather they are lost when a pc first takes damage, or weather they are taken off last. I note them separately, because, I realized that once the rage is over, the hit points are gone.

I put them in the Rules questions, because I don’t think I’m spoiling much about the plot. I’m asking about what happens in this situation.

So the situation as I understand it is this. The Half Orc Barbarian 1/ rogue 2 with a 14 constituion, is raging (now an 18 con). He has 3 rounds left to his rage. In one round he his hit once by the Villian’s first attack, a confirmed critical hit with a long sword does 11 points of damage, the second iterative attack with a long sword does 9 points of damage. The PC has Orchis ferocity.
The barbarian has 5 hit points left. (11 if I count the rage hit points). The first hit drops the Barbarian to -6 hit points ( or at 0 hps and staggered him if I count the rage hit points), the second hit drops him to -15 hit points ( or -9 if I count the rage hit points). With his Orcish ferocity, he can act as if he were staggered. I understand as staggered he can either take a move action or a standard action. If he takes a standard action he takes another point of damage.
Weather he is at -9 counting the rage hit points , or -15, I assume I use the rage boosted constitution score of 18. The rage will end when he goes unconscious. When he ceases to rage, the character will die, because his negative hit points -15 hit points, will exceed his constitution score.

After re reading the rage entry on the barbarian, the hit points gained from the boost to constitution, are taken off last.

If I have misunderstood something please let me know.

thank you all for your help
