Ranger Dual Wielding

Advice

ok so the question is as a 1st level ranger would it be wise to go ahead and pick up two weapon fighting so that i can start out dual wielding or should i wait till 2nd level to get it for free?

In my book free is always better :)

Silver Crusade

If you get it as a Ranger there is no Dex requirement. If you take the feet you need a min dex of 15. Str Based Ranger with Two Weapon Fighting is one of the highest DPS.

For example
Ranger level 1 ( 20 point buy )
Str 17 (+2Human)= 19
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 10

Human Bouns Feet : Exotic Weapon Falcata
1St level feet: Toughness

ya know using a Falcata and kurki calls to me for some reason.

im going with a falcata and a shield

There's a feat for falcata and buckler which gives a bonus. Ah, here it is.

Nice find

The only problem with using the Falcata with a Buckler is that you can't Shield Bash with a Buckler. Bash is only for Light and Heavy shields. So you can use a Buckler and get that feat OR you can use a Light or Heavy shield and get all the shield bashing feats and TWF feats and use it as a secondary weapon.

Silver Crusade

So your going to wast all that damage potental. Plus two to your ac is going to mean squat. You will be in light armor for evasion. On top of that a Str based ranger hase a low dex. So trading two points of ac for the exta damage of a off hand weapon seams like a realy pore trade.

If you wan't AC there is a way to do that as well. But its not the way of the Str Ranger. It looks somthing more like this.

Ranger level 1 ( 20 point buy )
(socity play 12 levels Ranger 11 Monk 1 )
(level 20 cap Ranger 16 Monk 2 Inquisitor 2 )
Str 14
Dex 15 + 2 Human = 17 (+3 for levels)= 20
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 14
Cha 8

With level 1 monk base AC 17 with out gear.
At level 12 with Barkskin cast AC 22 with out gear.
And yes a sheild lowers your AC with this build.

Wait till second level if you want a dual wielding ranger. If you want a switch hitter that uses two weapons, go for it.

IMO, taking Two-Weapon Fighting at ranger 1 is worth it, since you can then use the bonus Combat Style feat at ranger 2 to take Double Slice (which you will want). The real benefit to the Combat Style feats is that you can take Improved Two-Weapon Fighting and Two-Weapon Rend at ranger 6 and ranger 10 without needing a 17 Dex. This lets you start with 18 Str/15 Dex and never have to increase your Dex to get better at two-weapon fighting.

Suggested 20-Point Buy (half-orc* or human):
*-half-orcs treat the orc double-axe as a martial weapon
18 Str (16 +2 race), 15 Dex, 14 Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis, 8 Cha; first two advancements in Str
R1- Two-Weapon Fighting (plus Exotic Weapon (Orc Double-Axe) if human)
R2- Double Slice
R3- Endurance, Weapon Focus (Orc Double-Axe)
R5- Power Attack
R6- Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
R7- Vital Strike
R9- Improved Initiative
R10- Two-Weapon Rend
