Got this in my Email...
This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink.
The original message is from the Alberta Cattle Feeders Association Canadian cattle producers are very passionate about this.
McDonald's claims that there is not enough beef in Canada to support their restaurants. Well, we know that is not so. Our opinion is they
are looking to save money at our expense. The sad thing of it is that
the people of Canada are the ones who made McDonald's successful in
the first place, but we are not good enough to provide beef.
We personally are no longer eating at McDonald's, which I am sure does
not make an impact, but if we pass this around maybe there will be an
impact felt.
Please pass it on. Just to add a note:
All Canadians that sell cattle at a livestock auction barn have to
sign a paper stating that we do NOT EVER feed our cattle any part of
another animal. South Americans are not required to do this as of yet.
McDonald's has announced that they are going to start importing much
of their beef from South America . The problem is that South
Americans aren't under the same regulations as Canadian beef
producers, and the regulations they have are loosely controlled.
They can spray numerous pesticides on their pastures that have been
banned here at home because of residues found in the beef. They can
also use various hormones and growth regulators that we can't. The
Canadian public needs to be aware of this problem and that they may be
putting themselves at risk from now on by eating at good old
McDonald's.
Canadian ranchers raise the highest quality beef in the world and this
is what Canadians deserve to eat. Not beef from countries where
quality is loosely controlled. Therefore, I am proposing a boycott of
McDonald's until they see the light.
I'm sorry but everything is not always about the bottom line, and when
it comes to jeopardizing my family's health, that is where I draw the
line.
I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it
to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at l
east ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
please pass this message on.

Well then we need to stop subsidizing them, unless the choose healthy practices and do it over the course of a few years. Say 5. that way they have a chance to change and know that it is hinged on them doing the right thing. Of course if it was all up to me, the subsidies would stop in about 10 years.

Reminds me of when McDonalds was accused of using Kangaroo meat. I have always thought they missed the boat and should have just gone with a 100% kangaroo burger to see how well it sold.
I thought it was Jack in the Box that was accused of using 'roo meat...
Either way, I'm not inclined to eat at McDonald's anyway, now that I've grown up and know what burgers are supposed to taste like.

McDonalds seemingly suffers from multiple Urban Legends concerning their foods. Hunting around on google reveals most of the ones I've heard to be pure myths.
The kangaroo one apparently did start out with Jack in the Box having to send back meat to a supplier and subsequently canceling their contract with the supplier. But the chain never apparently used the meat. Still, as a kid, I always heard the story in connection with McDonalds - one of those things that grows in the telling. My wife was convinced, in fact, that McDonalds had been sued over the kangaroo meat incident. Worm meat is another popular mcdonalds myth.
Still, I still think it would be neat for an american chain to start selling 'roo burgers. Call them Aussie Burgers or something like that and play up the health benefits of the meat and play down the "cuteness" factor of the kangaroo and it could be a hit. Or it could go over like a lead balloon, but I would try one.

I enjoy the taste of a homemade bbq'ed burger as much as the next guy.
But there is something about MikeyD's that just keeps drawing me back in. I know it's not real food. I know it's not good for me....
But there are times when it just hits the spot.
I'm gonna go feel ashamed now... :)

Me too. Every now and then, I just find myself wanting a Big Mac. Its not that I think of it as a real hamburger, but it has its own little niche in my dietary needs.
On the other hand, McDonalds new chicken club sandwiches really aren't that bad, for those that haven't tried them. And I just tried one of their Frappes for the first time a couple weeks ago. Those things are actually pretty decent for a cold drink.

Yeah, I stopped reading here. I must have missed the day in history class that talked about the mass pilgrimage of 1940's Canadians to San Bernardino, California's new burger joint.

I'll still go in some mornings for a sausage Mcmuffin w/ egg, but never for lunch or dinner. I've just lost the taste for them, I suppose.
When I was in my late teens/early twenties, I worked close to one and used to eat there quite often. Then a better place opened up nearby and I started eating there. I also started getting headaches...except when I went to McD's and stuffed a quarter pounder in my face. I don't think it was coincidence.

Yep, pretty much the exact same thing here. Most of the time I'm happy to do without... but about once a month I head down and get a couple of Double Quarter Pounders. Then nothing for another month :P

Used to eat sausage McMuffins, but then Tim Hortons (in Canada...) came out with a similar breakfast sandwhich which knocks the stuffing out of a McMuffin.
But for me, lately it's been McChickens and Filet O'Fish. Must be the mayo....

Real friends don't let their friends eat McDonalds burgers. I just roll in for the breakfast or french fries. That's it.

I will tell you what lures me to McD's: sausage mcgriddles. Unexplainable, but there it is.
Now if some other fast food joint can put out their own version (or has), I need to find it.

I get 'em without the sausage. I swear, they are made with crack or something. I can't stop eating them.

This reminds me of KFC changed its name because the animal they use is not legally a chicken. It's a genetically engineered monstrosity, with a rubbery neck known as Animal 3328.
I also hear Bill Gates will donate $1 to the Gulf Oil spill clean-up fund if you pass along this information to 20 friends.
At least that's what my friend, the deposed prince of Nigeria, told me. We're going to party hard this weekend after he uses the $5k I wired him to release the $1m in his bank account, which he will split with me 50-50.

Not just that though. The American consumer would need to get used to the idea that the price he/she pays for meat would double (or more).

Ah! A Wendy's burger for breakfast at a random place we found while taking the scenic route from Colorado Springs back to Denver for the flight back to London. Best breakfast ever, behind kippers and porridge in a Scottish castle, but I digress :)

I am of the mind that we over produce. People, myself included eat way too much meat. It should be more expensive. It may in fact save lives if it was. I am also of the mindset that we use corn in way to many products. While I am a fan of corn in a lot of things. My fuel tank being one of them. It does not need to be the only thing fed to our livestock and it does not need to be used every product imaginable, sugar being one of them.

Don't think so. Inside the batter, they should be processed chicken slurry and a brine solution. (If you like nuggets, don't ask what chicken slurry is.)

Yeah I looked it up. Seems it was another of those rumors. however it does turn out that it is only 44% chicken and it is almost 18% corn.

Yummy I so wish we still had a Hardees' anywhere in the state. I used to drive 45 minutes away just to eat there.
