RAW all mage armor and shield would doo is add a total of 8 (4 each)to the creatures ac. if there were drawbacks then they would be listed.
those are both extra barriers you would have to bypass to get to the creature inside.
because mage armor moves with its wearer it doesnt freeze the creature in place, but i could se a dm not allowing it to pass threw walls for the duration (since the armor is force and always tangible.
it would still have the 50% "miss chance" (cant really agree its a miss chance any more, since its a flat 1/2 damage from magical non ghost touch weapons)

Thanks. I think I am going RAW, since that benefits my monsters and creates problems for the players. I will tell them (if they make a DC 30 knowledge arcana or spellcraft check), that this is a rare instance of a phenomena known as incorporeal force. Incorporeal force effects are force effects that exist only on the ethereal plane, and as such, only apply to a creature once the attack or phenomena is determine to exist on said plane.
