Sorcerer bloodlines Draconic and Fey get quicked spell as a possible bonus feat?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

According to the list of possible bonus feats for sorcerers of the draconic and fey blood lines, Quicken Spell is listed as one of the choices. Anyone else think this is kind of strange? It wouldn't even work unless you multiclassed into another casting class, right? Is this a typo, or am I not seeing the bigger picture here?

In PFRPG, Quicken Spell works fine for sorcerers; it allows them to cast spells as free actions. The rule that ALL metamagic applications to spontaneously-cast spells increases the casting time has been removed for Quicken Spell.

This is a great feat for Sorcerers, given their small spells-known selection but larger spells-per-day, a Sorcerer can throw out the potent 1-2 punches several times per day, such as casting a Quickened Fog Cloud and then throwing some Blind-Sight Summoned Monsters into the mix, or a Quickened Web coupled with a Summon Swarm of Spiders, or a Quickened Hideous Laughter coupled with Wall of Ice spell to encircle and trap an opponent.

And since Sorcerers can apply this feat on the fly to any spell they have. About to get attacked by a posse of Ogres armed with Greatclubs? Cast Quickened Fly and get out of melee range and fly use a run action to go 240 strait up into the air, well out of range of even a Large-size Longbow or the angrily thrown greatclubs of the savage brutes below! Sorcerer has delayed her action to try and counter-spell the enemy Wizard if he tries to blast the Cleric with a fireball, can decide at the last moment to use Quickened Spell to Protection from Energy (Fire) on the Cleric and use Lightning Bolt to damage the Wizard and force him to make a Concentration Check (d20+Caster Level+bonus spells Ability Score) or have his own spell fizzle.

I always felt that the increased casting time should be removed entirely. The reasoning felt very contrived.

When metamagic rods were introduced allowing prepared casters to in essence spontaneously apply metamagics without increased casting time this feeling was further reinforced.

Anyway, just a random comment. I'm glad PFRPG at least gives quicken to sorcerers.

Yes actually, thus not causing attacks of oppurtunity...which appears to be the only difference from Free and Swift

There is also the little "you can only take 1 Swift action in a round, while you can take any number of Free actions in a round" difference..

Yup. Otherwise you could potentially have the following from high level casters:

"I will cast meteor swarm and 6 quickened fireballs"

O.O

I can't believe that I've missed this change for as long as I did O_o Maybe I should re-read the classes, so I don't miss something like this again.

Thank you guys for the responses=)

I played like that in 3.5 too, although this discussion made me look back at the feat which clearly says it doesn't work for spontaneous casters. Oh well, good thing PFRPG changed it to how I played ;)
