I've GM'ed many tabletop adventures, and after being part of a couple PbP D&D 3.5 games, I've decided to have a go at making a Pathfinder PbP game.
I've titled it "The Shores of Orthanis" - Orthanis being a city I based around Absalom, but slightly different for my darker custom world I've based loosely on the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting. The city of Orthanis was once a coastal trading metropolis, but after a centuries long war with a dark god and geography altering titanic magic Orthanis finds itself landlocked in an arid plain - the center for black market trading, assasination contracts, slavery, and dark magic. The city is massive - with noble houses battling for control of a corporate business structure controlling the city called "The Banking Industry" brimming with espionage, extortion, and murder. Adventures find themselves at the bottom of the ladder, trying desperately to climb up, with the ever-present oppressive watchfulness of a monotheistic conquering Dark God looking over their shoulder.
I have two characters right now, but one might not be sticking around. The first is a Blackguard - he will be sticking around. The second is a Summoner of noble human birth. I encourage alignments to be more towards neutral or evil, although I'm not opposed to seeing a mixed group, and I'll work it into the story for roleplaying purposes if it's really desired.
This is a link to the game -
http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=42454&date=1278889385
Game Name: The Shores of Orthanis -- GM Name: Trennik
It's an "Adult Content" game, so I have to require a birthdate and adulthood waiver be submitted to me in a PM before I give you access to read more of the threads, but I can answer any questions here or over MSN as well.
I'm looking for at least two, but probably three players who can post at least one post per day, but hopefully several posts per day.

![]() |

I'm considering running a game on Paizo.com, but it would be in Golarion, not my custom world. It would also be less adult oriented and more "all ages" acceptable. Perhaps my next PbP.
The link should work fine - I see you can't click on it but when I copy/paste it works. Maybe I can edit a clickable link in.
I suspected I might have trouble recruiting for those reasons you mentioned, but I do like RPoL for running a PbP campaign, and I'm committed to getting good, Pathfinder oriented posters and I'm pretty sure this is the place to find them. I'll be patient. =)

![]() |

I went ahead and linked the game for ya.
You rule, thank you very much.
Kenderkin - yeah - because it's an "Adult" game I have to require you submit an age waiver (PM) with your date of birth and the statement "I am an adult in my place of residence." - then I can give you access to view the threads. It's one of the rules of the RPoL Forums. And yes, first level.
I'd have to advise that you don't make a Paladin. You can, if you want, to see what happens, but I would urge you to choose a class with a neutral or evil alignment.
I have a Summoner (maybe temporary), a Blackguard, and a Rogue so far. If that helps you pick.
I'm still looking for at least two players.
Thanks again seekerofshadowlight!

![]() |

A ranger would be fine.
Right in the middle of the page, above the threads, there should be a link that says "Click here to request to join".
Please include in your request the line
"My DOB is XX/XX/XXXX and I am an adult in my place of residence."
We're working on a melee-centric group. Should be fun. =)

Well, my game is going along quite nicely.
I love running it under the Pathfinder rules system, which I think is the most perfect roleplaying system to date. Kudos to Paizo for being the BEST!
I'm looking for 3-4 more player characters. I'd like any applicants to take the following into account:
- This game is highly tactical. I run combat on grid maps which are unique and computer generated. I add combat effects, player characters, props, etc. using Photoshop and I update the maps every combat round.
- I use full color illustrations, most of which are customized for the game.
- I consider this game to be of an 'Advanced RPG skillset'. Novice gamers will find themselves quickly overwhelmed, and even talented, experienced gamers will find themselves challenged - not by the difference between APL and the CR of encounters per say - but by the detail, thoughtfulness, and depth of the game.
- I run the game with a Combat GM. My Combat GM runs all my NPC's, and I storyboard the entire campaign with him. By having two GM's the game is uniquely flavorful.
- This is a campaign for N, CN, LN, LE, & CE alignments. Please don't apply with a good aligned character concept. I know some GM's find it difficult to run an "Evil Campaign". I don't, that's what this is. Bring me your blackguards, assasins, dark mages, shadow clerics, thieves, and scoundrels.
- I run the game on a third party forum, Roleplay Online - The Shores of Orthanis. This forum requires all applicants to verify they are an adult in their place of residence by submitting an age verification waiver. This comes in the form of "My DOB is XX/XX/XXXX and I am an adult in my place of residence." I need that quote submitted in the private message you send to join, verbatum. I honestly don't care what your DOB is, I'm not collecting personal information. As long as it makes you an adult in your place of residence.
- I require posting 5 days a week minimum, 7 days a week in combat. This is a fast paced PbP game, and I don't want 6-8 people waiting and getting bored. If you can't post a lot, consistantly, this game isn't for you.
This is a highly organized, well thought out, fast paced PbP game. Not for the weak of heart, not for kids, not for novice gamers, not for novice posters. If you're reading this and consider yourself to be an experienced poster and gamer, please apply to join my game. I would value your participation, and so would the other gamers! I'd like to think the testimonials from the PC's who have already played would be quite positive.
PC's are level 1, with default starting gold and equipment. I use a dice roll attribute generation - 4d6, reroll 1's, keep highest 3 dice. Compared to the point buy system, this usually creates a very high string of attributes - but it also allows for the possibility of a red herring low stat - which is exciting!
Lets play Pathfinder!

![]() |

Can we roll dice here to start our character or do you want us to roll in other program?
It'll be done on RPoL, in-game.
As far as party composition... well... I have a Summoner right now. Kalderaan! =D
There's one or two other player characters who have yet to decide.
I'm still LFG.

KenderKin |
Trennick,
Shall we continue our discussion here........ or would you like a less public forum......
Yes the other format you can allow and unallow, but not here!
Although I was the first to apply based on the first post this was part of the farwell post I got over there.....
The DM:
I can tell you all now that (my character)was cheating the entire time - beginning with his equipment and character creation, and extending into nearly every action he took. It amazed me to such a degree - even after being called out on his obvious attempts to bend rules or completely ignore them whatsoever - that I let him keep posting to see where he was trying to take it. I still have no idea what he was trying to do. I can tell you all one thing - he will never make another post in this forum!
Yep initially I had too much equipment, but I fixed that and any issue that came up.....
No reason to be hostile!

![]() |

I understand what you're saying, and I'm not trying to be hostile, but I am Draconian in my GM'ing.
All issues about my personal game aside, I believe you to be a capable roleplayer. Your technical expertise at the game - which I would interpret to be applying the rules sets to your ability to roleplay, isn't nearly what I would expect or demand from my players in any game.
When I say that you won't be posting anymore, I mean that I couldn't accept your re-application to join based on the fact that you don't seem to understand the technical details. How Move Actions and Standard Actions are broken up, and how to tactically move your character on a grid map based on squares are the most striking examples that I can come up with.
I'm looking for somebody who can look at the grid map, and say "I take a move action, 30' North, 3 squares. I then use my standard action to attack with my Falchion. Attack roll 15, Damage 7"
I'm not trying to be rude to you, and like I said - you roleplay quite well. Your character was a convincing Half-Orc. Your background story was acceptable - not the best, but not the worst. But your understanding of game mechanics isn't high enough to participate in my game. I find myself very frustrated when I have to go back through the round and translate your posts that have no technical information into something I can use to update the battle map and continue the combat, then after my efforts it comes out that's not what you intended and you didn't understand what was going on.
I understand what you were trying to do in an ideological sense - such as put the fire out. But I can't, for the life of me, understand why you wouldn't just move to the fire with a movement action, then use a standard action to extinguish the flames. That's very easy to understand. But the way you tried to do it was a riddle that I couldn't solve. I had no idea what you were trying to do.
So when I say you cheated - you definitely cheated at character creation and took THOUSANDS of GP worth of equipment into battle with you. I should have never let you into the game on that basis alone, but since you were already in the game when I discovered what had happened, I had to progress with your character - since you were already posting in game threads and taking actions. I would have had to completely start the game over had I removed you - and allowing you to post a new equipment list mid-game is basically just as bad as having you take the equipment of a level 5 character into a level 1 game. Part of the game is not knowing what you'll need, and having to make do with what you have and what loot drops. It's an important part.
Another important point I want to make in my game is that not following the rules will result in serious infractions. It's not fair that I could have four people interested in having a good, well run, consistant game only to have that all belittled and ruined by one player who can't grasp the level we all expect the game to be played at. But still - I want to be fair - so I warned everybody in a public forum that failure to post technical details in a technically detailed combat with grid maps would bring extremely unfavorable results. I warned everybody about that twice in public.
I really - REALLY - want to move my party into a module with dungeons, traps, roleplaying encounters, and combat battles. I designed the encounter so that no players would be able to sit as individuals and have any sort of positive effect on the battle - only by standing sholder to sholder as a party could you hope to survive. Still, it was just a CR2 vs. 5 level 1 PC's. You should have all defeated that encounter in under 5 rounds. Unfortuantely, the biggest deciding factor in the battle was how your character sat in stealth and watched the battle doing nothing at all until it was too late - then you moved into combat and attempted some actions. Too late. MUCH too late. By being so passive and refusing to participate in 3/4 of the encounter you let your party down, but most importantly you let yourself down - because like I said you have great roleplaying potential - if you could just learn the rules.
No hostility, and no hard feelings - but I want to make it perfectly clear that this game isn't for you. I require a level of proficiency that you don't have, a clarity in posting that you can't bring forward, and technical aptitude for the rules that you never demonstrated. I'm always willing to help somebody along, offer advice, and correct mistakes - but it just became too much on top of too much. Your last post in the forum hammered the final nail in the coffin for me - it made no sense and I just find it hard translating what you're saying into real Pathfinder vocabulary and game lingo.
Honestly...
[Private to GM: Like it was made up after the fact....... ]I can't say,
It just seems.....
[Private to GM: like the NPCs are too good......while simultaneuosly being insane!]How should one post for that situation?
how about something like....
[Private to GM: I try to keep within 35 of the wagon, not actually wanting to overtake the wagon or engage those within, ready to fall prone into the dust should they seem to take notice of me...]
if/then
[Private to GM: How about a sequence of if/then's for a post....]How about an example of the post that is both RP and technically accurate!
And finally what square was I in? Map was not clear.....
This is your last post. It means nothing to me, other than the fact that you don't understand the game enough to participate. The fact that you would fall prone AFTER somebody noticed you is just incredibly foolish. It opens you up for sneak attacks, coup de grace... anything. It's such a ridiculous suggestion and it's just one of the many ridiculous things you posted during your tenure in the game.
Here's the map: 1 square = 10'
http://a.imageshack.us/img829/3935/map111m.jpg
How are distances and positions not perfectly clear? You can measure them with a ruler.
I'm posting all this hoping people reading can see the level of detail me and my Combat GM put into the game. If you don't want a challenging, well run, and ran well within the rules Pathfinder PbP game - I would never apply, because you won't like it at all.
Can I make a suggestion? You would be great at free form roleplaying. MUD style. I would certainly like to post with you if that was the type of game we were both in. That isn't this game, so, I apologize for any perceived hostility and I hope to be able to move along with my game successfully while gaining new players who can play it effectively.

I have submitted an app to join your game with the age clause written in. I was thinking maybe fighter/Cleric of a god within your world. Maybe Gizron himself, or something else. I was looking at the War, and Law domains and be either LE or LN. If not cleric, then maybe just straight warrior.
Cleric would be awesome. Either of those alignments. You could certainly be a cleric of Girzon, or another god of your chosing. I believe I accepted your application, and I've posted you a PM. You'll be the 5th PC of the 6 PC party, so there's still 1 spot left open.

KenderKin |
This would have been good info to have had at the beggining....
I'm looking for somebody who can look at the grid map, and say "I take a move action, 30' North, 3 squares. I then use my standard action to attack with my Falchion. Attack roll 15, Damage 7"
As far as.....
It was 100% corrected before it had any impact on the game.
Which my understanding was submit character for review and make any adjustments needed, the character did not fit your game, but it was fixed..........
Cheating is not submitting a character without guidelines for the DMs approval, cheating is changing the character after the DM reviews it or after all adjustments have been made. We did not even talk about starting good, equipment till "in game".....and it was worked out.
Not cheating..........
I hope this helps others who might post understand more clearly what you want....
Like I said before
no harm / no foul
In fact I myself am more clear on it as well!
Good Gaming...
I recommend everyone apply the game is very good!
(Except me I am banned! ;)

Wanted to pipe in as a player in Trennik's game in regards to the complaints raised here.
So far I'm having a blast.
The world feels well concieved and out-thought. A dark-sunnny, ravenloftyan Golarion.
As to the rule-lawyering. Both DM's seem to go out of their way to keep the game concistent rule-wise. I have myself raised some questions as to their judging but have always been answered promptly and with quotes to the rule in question (although I do it in a PM).
Although the PC's get little sway if the situation is unfavorable or they act without thinking, the NPC's are under the same hat.
So it is a challange, but that's part of what makes the game great IMO.
So, for any player who loves pathfinder and wants a mature themed roleplaying experience I would recomend this game and these DM's.

Kalderaan |

I second Sigz as well. I've been playing for over 20 years and have learned rules that I never bothered to read up on.
In addition, this game allows me to have creativity in realms that are usually taboo - in this case a campaign from those with dark hearts. The subject matter allowed me to scope a character with many flaws that are ripe for role-playing.
I too look forward to this adventure!

I'm looking for one player to play an already existing character (female inquisitor) or roll a new character to take that spot. I'd prefer someone play the character.
Folks - if you consider yourself a serious gamer then this game is for you. I actually like the rpol.net system where the system resides. I like the ability to have different threads going and such.
But the story, oh, the story. It is beyond great - it is epic. We need some dedicated players to breath more life into it, to fan the flames of creativity.
You will not be disappointed. However, be warned that this isn't your dad's D&D game. It contains adult subject matter and the players are dark of heart. To me, that makes it even sweeter.
Come join us!

Just want to say, as a player in this game...It's awesome, masterfully created and played!
We players would greatly appreciate a player willing to work with a group as a whole. This game is extremely deadly, we need everyone to work together to survive >;)
Who are you playing Deepdweller?

I'm looking for another player to take on a fighter-type character, ASAP. Many details of the character will be up to the player - he has no family, his backstory is open to interpretation, and class choices include Fighter, Cavalier, & Ranger. I'll also go with Paladin, or possibly Cleric.
The party is getting ready to depart on their adventure, so time is of the essence. You'll be an important part of the 7 PC group.
<Inquisitor>
<Witch>
<Rogue>
<Summoner>
<Bard>
<Inquisitor>
<Fighter-type PC Needed>
Read above for description of the game!
I'm also not opposed to replacing the Fighter PC with another melee character concept, as long as it's good - if you don't want to play a pre-gen character.

Aventi D´Gaudon |

Seems really interesting. I could consider but I can´t post there since my workplace is blocking the site :S Would only be able to post after 4-5pm when out of work (GTM+1).
If this is still okey, I am considering scythe weapon mastery / glaive-guisarme Polearm fighter type: specialising to AoE in both cases. Will need to how concept look like when thinking possible builds (prefer more RP than min-maxing but in healthy way still making adaptable build for different situation and able to lash out some dmg)

Kalderaan |

Orc (Orcs of Golarion Companion) or Half-Ogre (Pathfinder SRD) Pole-arm fighter!! :)
I play with Aventi in several other PbP's on this site. Good player and posts a lot.
Half-ogre is the BOMB!
Was thinking of a 1st level half-ogre barbarian pole-arm warrior.
Better hurry and get accepted on the rpol.net boards. We need you sooner, rather than later!
