As you move through the rubble you can see that the second and third floors have been opened as well. A crafty person might be able to climb along the walls and shattered floor to get to those areas.
Peering into the west door reveals little. Most of it is covered by large pieces of stone. It would take a couple of strong men several minutes to clear the way. The northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the fifteen-foot high ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.
Kaldar Sithik
"Ha! Spot on with my first shot! What'd I tell ya guys? not another shooter in the land can do that like I can!"
Wow that was lucky, let's hope my luck holds throughout this adventure.
Kaldar will stay back enough to have LoS as best possible to both entrances should anything come out after either Kendrick or Variel. When it's decided which direction we'll head he'll take a spot behind belros to give cover.
Brother Kendrick
I'm picturing this as a hole in the floor leading down to lower levels. Am I correct, or is this indicate a hole in the ceiling? As you move through the rubble you can see that the second and third floors have been opened as well. A crafty person might be able to climb along the walls and shattered floor to get to those areas.
Variel Galadon
"Well this western passage appears to be a total loss, since speed is of the essence. Do we want to stay in the same "marching order" that we were in, or do you want me to go first? My elven heritage would allow me to see a bit farther in the darkness than human eyes."
Variel nervously looks around the gapping hole in the side of the tower.
"We could try and climb upto the higher levels, though I'm not sure of how good of an idea that is....we don't look like the nimblest of crews that I've seen."
Brother Kendrick
I propose we explore the open areas on the ground level, and then if we cannot find an existing means to move higher in the tower we consider climbing up through the open areas. Once we've searched out all the open areas we may want to consider attempting to move aside the rubble blocking the western passage.
Thanks for the ASCII map. It explained things perfectly!
Mastermind
I'm going to assume all four of you have moved through the rubble next to the door. If Belros leads or let's Variel do it I'll describe wherever you guys go. If you're not in combat feel free to be as assertive as you like for exploring. Getting a four-way agreement before opening each door can get tedious. Early on it's ok as you're still establishing party roles.
Belros Verzar
"Good shot Kaldar, hope you have that aim every time" wonders if it was luck, "Well then let us start the search I agree with Kendrick idea and can't think a better one at the moment" looks at Variel "Yes! I am going to lead Variel, for obvius reasons" and starts moving to explore the open areas as suggested by Kendrick.
This is going to be one bad week at work for me so will try to post every time I can
Mastermind
Just a few seconds after Belros barges past the alchemist a mass of sticky fibrous threads rains down on him. A part of the webbing on the ceiling shifts revealing a spider nearly the size of a man hiding in the dark corner.
Web Attack; 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Miss.
The strands of web fail to gain any purchase on the fighter's armor and shield but fail to make any purchase.
Kaldar (S) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Kendric (K) 1d20 ⇒ 19
Variel (G) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Giant Spider 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
(24) Belros
(20) Variel
(19) Kendric
(10) Giant Spider
...that thing is so dead. I'll update a map at home tonight. Once again post in any order, feel free to ask questions here or the discussion thread.
Variel Galadon
Round 1:
Attack:1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 4 = 5 (I'm assuming someone will be in meele when my turn comes around.)
Damage:1d8 ⇒ 1
EDIT: Wow, that would have been ineffective even if I would have come close to hitting the spider.
Kaldar Sithik
Kaldar will move into a position to have a moderate space between he and it while gettin out of the way of the party members who prefer melee and will take a shot at the spider, will stay within 30` of it if possible.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 161d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
subtract one from both damage and attack roll if not within 30 ft

Fallen Fortress, ground floor (map)
Here's the map with the spider room. The room is considered difficult terrain as well. The icons are in their positions for round 1 actions except for Belros. I changed the icons for Belros and Kaldar because I had the colors that made sense backwards. Also made the doors more visible. If you guys would like anything else on the map I can do pretty much whatever.

Ground Floor, giant spider (map)
Round 1
(24) Kaldar moves into position by the far wall from the spider getting out of the way of the others as well. His second arrow for the night flies as straight as the first and strikes the lantern lit arachnid. Green ichor oozes around the fletchings.
(24) Belros moves underneath the spider but is unable to reach it. The creature is just a few feet too high on the roof. It would also take a double move just to get there in the rubble and you can't charge through difficult terrain.
(20) Variel peers through the doorway and fires his crossbow. The bolt clatters off the wall and is caught in some webbing.
(19) Setting down the lantern, Brother Kendrick draws his sword and waits for an opening to attack the spider.
(10) The giant spider moves quickly down the webbed wall until it is just above Belros and tries to bite him.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
It's fangs do not even come close to scratching the new armor.
Actions for Round 2 please.

Ground Floor, giant spider (map)
Round 2
(24) Kaldar fires another arrow hoping his streak of hits continues and can impress his new friends further. The arrow is deflected by the spiders exoskeleton.
(24) "Have a taste of this!!" Belros calls while striking with his bastard sword. The spider barely dodges the blade and it strikes sparks off the wall.
(20) Variel reloads his crossbow and fires again. The fray of combat makes it hard to aim and he misses again.
(19) The cleric works his way across the room getting next to Belros. His sword ready to strike the spider.
(10) The huge arachnid clambers off the wall and onto the rubble trying to bite Belros again.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Hit!
Damage; 1d6 ⇒ 3 (Belros HP 13)
This time the fangs find their way through his armor the wounds are shallow but burning with venom.
Belros Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Failed :(
Poison Str Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1 (Belros Str 15)
If you want to roll your next Poison save Belros go ahead. Also Round 3 actions! The spider was somehow unscathed during Round 2.
Kaldar Sithik
hey guys I'm unable to really post today and the next couple of days I will post as I can but physical therapy and inventory at work will keep me tied up a bit.
Scipion, if you need to go ahead and just take my shots/turns for me if the others all post for combat through this weekend. Like I said I'll post as much as possible but this will be a difficult weekend for me.
Mastermind
Sure thing, hop in when you can.
Round 3
(24) Kaldar knocks another arrow and looses it at the spider attacking Belros.
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Crit?!
Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Normal hit.
Damage; 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The shot pierces the spiders head causing it to shudder strangely.
(24) Belros can feel the venom burning the wounds on his side, but it's no longer sapping his strength like the first few seconds. In grim silent his bastard sword whistles out and beheads the spider. It takes a moment but the creature stops moving and slides into a pile of webbing.
With the spider dead the rubble filled room sits quit. Only the sound of each others labored breaths can be heard.
Once again the only door is to the southwest.
Brother Kendrick
Examining the wound left by the spider bite:
Heal check 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Assuming nothing further can be done, Brother Kendrick will use a positive energy burst to heal Belros
"Let me heal that wound Belros." Holding his holy symbol and concentrating for a brief moment, a bright glow flares forth and a healing warmth washes over Belros.
1d6 ⇒ 6
Shall we continue through the doorway?
Belros Verzar
"I am very grateful Kendrick, but we must press on the advantage to explore this ruins before others get here" looks around the room "well I don't think there is nothing more to look around this part" as he makes his way to the southwest.
Well unless someone wants to do something in the room?
Mastermind
Venturing into the western wing reveals that it is mostly choked with rubble and a few pieces of webbing. There is another doorway on the eastern wall that is still accessible. Searching through north and west wing only revels a small cocoon with the remains of a tiny dog. The desiccated carcass is still wearing a leather collar, which is stuffed with lapis lasuli stones and a silver tag reading "Kita." Peering through the eastern doorway reveals a small room with a staircase. Much of it has collapsed rendering it unusable on this floor and filling the lower portions with debris.
It would seem that to reach the second floor you either need to figure out a way past the collapsed staircase (a difficult task) or climb the broken walls to the second floor's eastern wing.
Variel Galadon
Looking over the rest of the group, "We might be able to do so, but it would be a risk, the armor most of you are wearing isn't real helpful when climbing, but I'll give it a shot if everyone else is willing."
Climb:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
Perception (if needed for actions stated if climb succeeds):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Variel Galadon
"Well if you need help climbing or think it's hard, I'll give you a hand Variel"
Don't forget to take your armor check penalty into account when you make the check (-4 for scalemail and an additional -2 for the shield if you have it equipped when you make the check)
Mastermind
This floor has considerably less rubble than the bottom but is not entirely free of it either. From here you can see that the third and fourth floors of the eastern wing are damaged as well. There are two sturdy wooden doors in this room with large looping handles. They are perfect for tying the rope securely too.
With the rope it is only a DC 5 to Climb to the second floor.
Brother Kendrick
Deciding that climbing up a rope with a lit lantern is probably not the safest idea, Brother Kendrick activates his Sunrod and then snuffs the lantern. Slinging his shield and tucking the Sunrod through his belt he grabs the rope and starts his climb.
Climb:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Mastermind
Oops, forgot Kaldar was afk - _ -
Sithik slings his bow over his shoulder and tries to climb the rope braced on the wall.
Climb Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
He too barely makes it over the edge. Scrambling and kicking as he does.
All four of you are now on the broken eastern wing on the second floor. There are the two doors. The western door has a rope tied to it. From here a person could keep going and climb to the third floor as well.
Variel Galadon
"Well I think we could go east and then come back to the west door, tho I find that rope strange" thinks for a moment "Variel did you tied that rope?"
"I sure did. What do you find so strange about it?"
While waiting for a response from the warrior, Variel goes to check out each door way on the 2nd floor.
Perception (SW door):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Perception (NW door):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
