Using dragon bits in 4e

4th Edition

Howdy folks,

Our party of lv3 PCs mightily dispatched a young green dragon last night and would like to make some good stuff out of his now mutilated carcass. Problem is, we do not know what all we can make with it. I know that in 3.5 in the DMG I believe there was a chart that would show you how big a dragon had to be in relation to how much stuff you get out of it(x plate mail, x hide, ect). I cannot see where this list would be and my google fu is weak.

Another thing is that we would like to make sure that the level of loot stays with the level of dragon(5 solo I think). So maybe the best thing to do would look at thematically linked items and use those. Though if anyone knows of such a chart for 4e that would be most excellent.

The Draconomicon actually has some ideas here, I seem to recall - presenting pricing guidelines, and use of certain dragon components as ritual components and similar things. I don't have it on hand, but I'll see if I can dig up the info later tonight on tomorrow...

I've seen it done both ways. Early in the current campaign, the DM had us get the standard bones / heart / etc as ritual component rewards. Later, when I was running it and they were at epic levels, I had the bones of a dragon solidy as crystallized residuum, which later turned into a thematically appropriate item (an Astral Skiff possessed by the spirit of the dragon.)
