If a government that is controlled by reiligion is called a theocracy, then what is a government controlled by the elite intelligent called?

if it's a few select individuals or parties running it i think it's a oligarchy.

aristocracy is 'rule of the best'. which the elite would certainly consider themselves.

kratocracy is government by those who are strong enough to seize power through force or cunning

altho i think magocracy - 'ruled by wizards' is good.

my personal favourite tho is meritocracy where who rules is based upon demonstrated intelligence and ability.

Another option would be 'meritocracy', especially if those intelligent elites were assessed by some institutionalized standard.

If it is by measure of election then it is a republic. If it is another form it will likely take the form or a Hierarchy.

If ruled by an elite designated at birth is a monarchy.

I'm fairly sure the word you want is "Intelligentsia."

No one knows for sure, because it's never happened. Just make up a word. :)
