Help needed about energy drain in Seven Days to the Grave

Rules Questions

I am PLAYING seven days to the grave and we have just been attacked by vampire spawn and the 4th lvl Paladin was hit by three energy drain attacks, the DM and me both think the core book and the beastiary give different out look on the length (temp or per) so i am looking for input from other people.

Plus want can our 1st lvl (was 4th) Paladin do now

Liberty's Edge

Most negative levels work as follows:
No initial save, considered temporary (for now). Can be healed relatively easily if you can get to them here.
24 Hours after initial effect: Character gets a saving throw. On success they are dispelled, on failure they become permanent negative levels and are much harder to heal.

So your paladin should be making 3 saving throws soon.

Well, I looked up vampire spawn in the PRD. It refers me to wights. Wights refers me to energy drain. Energy drain in this case looks to last 24 hours, and then a Fortitude save is required for each negative level to avoid the temporary drain becoming permanent.

If you have a cleric handy with a restoration spell, go pay them to cast it to remove the negative levels. Mind you, it's a 4th-level spell with a potentially expensive component. Or when the time comes, let everyone buff your Fortitude save so you can make the saves required of you (1 per negative level).

Remember that temporary level drain doesn't lower your level. So, technically, until that level drain becomes permanent, your paladin is still 4th level, but suffers -3 to pretty much anything he does with a d20, and to his CMD, and he also loses 15 HP from his total HP (these can't be healed until the energy drain is restored). Also, he still has his 4th level abilities. For example, he can still prepare 1 spell, he can still use Lay On Hands (but it's only 1/day + CHA mod, and it only heals 1d6 each time because his level-dependent abilities fuction as if he were 1st level), he can still Channel Positive Energy (less often) and he can still Smite Evil twice/day.

thank you from all the reply's, so the drain is temp at the moment and he can still cast spells.

Thanks

And more imoportantly he still gets to add his Charisma to his save to avoid it becoming permanent.
