If a character with the Half-Dragon or Half-Celestial template draws the Knight card from the Deck of Many Things:
Knight: The fighter appears out of nowhere and serves loyally until death. He or she is of the same race (or kind) and gender as the character. This fighter can be taken as a cohort by a character with the Leadership feat.
Will the fighter also have the half-dragon or half-celestial template as well? I think the RAW is silent on this, but I don't know what the RAI are for it.
Your race is whatever the template was applied to. A human half-dragon fighter is still human, though many templates change your creature type. After all, your PC was built using data from the "Races" section of the book, right?
That said, you could still apply the template. The cohort will be more powerful than normal, but not necessarily all that uber by any means.

I'd say it's ambiguous enough that you'd have a case for it. Race is defined in the rules. "Kind" is not, so it could mean anything. It could even mean a template.
Yeah, that's the way I ruled. They're not taking the minions as cohorts anyway. They intend to use the fighter as a guard for their keep. So it's not that big of a deal. Just wanted to see what the forum would say.
Two of the players each pulled the Knight card so their are two of them. One half-celestial and one half-dragon.
