Hey everyone,
I'm gonna be heading into a seafaring campaign soon (at level 7) and I am uncertain of what I want to do. I know I want to be a cleric or some kind of divine caster because of how awesome they can be but I'm uncertain of what kind. Clerics are so varied it is difficult to say. We're playing in a 3.5 adventure path (Savage Tiding) converted to Pathfinder. Here is what I've been thinking of (and feel free to add to this list!):
1) A cleric of Pelor with Sun/Healing domains to heal and buff. (there is some undead in the campaign and my group seems to get into fights a lot where we are carried through only by the grace of our healer).
2) A wave oracle (who thinks he is the avatar of the ocean)with Fluid Travel/Freezing Spells/Water Form and Tongues
3) A Battle oracle with Skill at arms/War Sight/Combat Healer and Cloud Vision.
4) A druid with the Weather Domain
Like I said, the group tends to end up in more trouble than not, so they need a strong support character. I've never tried my hand at a support character but I am in the mood to try it.
Thanks

What type of characters are the other players playing?

Having seen an oracle played for several levels (and months) now in the Savage Tide Adventure Path I would NOT recommend the class, and that is with house rules that give the class a healing spell per level for free. Waves is an especially bad choice if you do decide to go with an Oracle, because arguably the best waves ability (the armor) is screwed by the very hot weather of the island. Ironically our oracle is a waves oracle.
In virtually every situation the cleric that occasionally accompanies the group has utterly overshadowed the oracle. Go with Cleric. Even with the change to heavy armor the class is beastly.

Since it is a seafaring campaign, then perhaps you should consider Cleric of Gozreh. The Weather domain is very nice. The Water or Air domains are nice too and they both fit with the campaign type too.

No idea what everyone else is playing. The group has yet to reform but I know we're going to have a swashbuckler. We'll probably have a rogue and if I know one of the other players, a warlock or some other weird arcane hybrid.
As for cleric, Weather and Water domains sound interesting. I have to find another god then Gozreh though since we're using Greyhawk gods (since its a 3.5 campaign). I'm sure there is one.

If you're playing Greyhawk, you could consider being a cleric of the Azure Temple. In Sasserine there is a combined temple for the three most common water gods of Greyhawk - sort of a minipantheon. The player's guide to Savage Tide allowed for this and let you select from among four domains, I believe. Check it out.

In that case go druid with the animal companion (preverably something amphibious like the croc) . With a swashbuckler, a rogue and a warlock, you will need some non-squishy front line support. A Wildshape specialized druid and their animal companion will do alot to help your party.

Just FYI, that is not a house rule. From the APG test...
In addition to the spells gained by oracles as they gain
levels, each oracle also adds all of the cure spells or inflict
spells to their list of spells known (cure spells include all
spells with “cure” in the name, inflict spells include all
spells with “inflict” in the name). These spells are added
as soon as the oracle is capable of casting them. This
choice is made when the oracle gains her first level and
cannot be changed.
Personally, I would look at a Weather domain druid for a support class. The ability to spontaneously summon + good battlefield control makes this class a really good support class.

I am seeing issues here, mostly your player choose the wrong mysteries. That and Cleric will outshine about damned every class, if they want to.
He went with wave, and knowing it was a jungle setting used ice based ablitys?? Not the classes fault he did that.

If you want to be more useful go with Cleric.
Cleric has more versatility, Channel Positive energy (great for extra healing), and 2 Good saves.
Oracle can make for more "interesting" characters. Example Oracle of Lore with the "clouded vision" weakness.
Spoken by a man wearing a robe and with a blindfold covering his eyes (he has blindfighting feat). "I have become knowledge, I gazed into knowledge and while I lost my sight I have gained understanding. Perhaps you have heard of the Codex, it is but a pathway a small window into true undestanding. I am no longer mortal, I am knowledge."
