How is that Bards and Sorcerors have Intimidate as class skills and Paladins do not? ppphhhhhzzzzzttttt :P
Because people know what paladins can do, but bards and sorcerers are strange, powerful, unknown dangers!
Appraise on the Ring:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Appraise on the Amulet:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
We are apparently not very good at appraisal though...

That doesn't mean you can't assist, or just use your high charisma to use it untrained...I have a Pali in a different campaign, had thought the same thing. Almost wanted to go down the dazzling display path until I saw that.

Eadric seems completely unconcerned with the "loot" other than the horses. (But will take the bow if Vanion doesn't want it.) At his first opportunity, Eadric tries to examine the horses, looking for a suitable mount for himself.
While Vanion and Durn question the bandit prisoner, Eadric begins to think of the next courses of action.
We should attempt to remove suspicion from Oleg's involvement in the disappearance of the bandits. Eadric is still interested in the idea of releasing a couple of horses made to look up like the bandits fell upon misfortune AFTER they left the trading post. Perhaps load up the pack horse with a few items the bandits would have taken from Oleg and turn it loose, hoping it returns home. Maybe releasing a second horse along with it, the body of the bandit killed by Vanion secured to it, made to look like he died in the saddle after tying himself off. When the bandits fail to return, a second party is likely to be sent to determine what happened to them, or at the very least, to try and get back here to retrieve there taxes from Oleg.
We should try and erase all evidence of the fight here in the outpost.
We should remove the dead bandits and dispose of them where they will likely not be discovered. Eadric questions Oleg on this matter looking for suggestions.
We should trade whatever loot we have that we don't want to Oleg. Stabling this many horses is going to cost a few coins, not to mention feed and accommodate us, even for a short time between jaunts out to explore.
Vanion Bracke
Vanion, you have a str score of 14 no? If so, you can use it with no penalty. Do you want it? If not then I will take it.
Too late! I already added a regular bow to my inventory! It's yours, and you are stuck with it! Muhahahah.
That aside, I think all of the questions listed are fine so far. The only other one I would add is: 8. Do you know of any other bandit groups or dangers in the area?
Vanion Bracke
Some good idea's Eadric- but I still think you are getting a little a head of yourself. I'd like to hear what this man says before I argue with you about what is the best course of action.
How many we still have to face, how long until we have to face them, and what there likely response is going to be still haven't been answered yet.
Eadric Cuthwulf
Ok. I'll add the comp longbow to my sheet then and I'll add my regular longbow to the stuff to be traded to Oleg.
And Vanion, I'm just spit balling ideas for the moment. Everything will be determined by what we learn from the prisoner. Most importantly the fate of the missing girl!
I didn't put the ooc tags around my thinking cause we are in the ooc thread. :)
Eadric Cuthwulf
It the italic tags for thinking, remember? And when did we jump from 7 to 9 on our list of questions?
In the ooc thread? My ideas are similar to the numbered questions... Eadric isn't saying this to anyone in character yet. I'm just getting a head start on what we may do next...
And Vanion has #8 in his post above mine.
Vanion Bracke
I guess I can always volunteer to be the next volunteer! :)
"Well, look at all this disgusting blood and gore all over the ground, the cart, and the goods. I have a toothbrush here that should let someone scrub it all out, given enough time. Any volunteers? Oh, Eadric? Excellent!"

[Arnie's voice]Remember when I promised to kill you last? I lied![/Arnie's voice] :)
Was my shameless loot grab too obvious? ;)

I believe my intent is to hide Oleg and Svetlana's involvement in these matters. No point in saving them from the bandits to only allow them to be killed in retribution for our actions. We are better equipped to defend ourselves and we aren't always going to be in the fort to protect them.
Eadric will proudly proclaim his involvement to whoever asks. He might just go tack a notice up on the outside of the outpost, in the near future, stating the sheriffs are town! <the sound of a western movie music plays>
One never knows with this one. :)
Eadric Cuthwulf
Alright, who left a keg unguarded with Eadric around? He's obviously drunk.
And your point is? :)
Maybe if I was LN I wouldn't concern myself with the fate of Oleg and Svetlana... it would be a balancing thing... as long as the law was upheld I would be satisfied...

Why are you always threatening to light me on fire? :)
And forget about the high alcohol content in my blood, all the oil I smear on my body to enhance my muscular physique (for the ladies) makes me a roman candle just waiting to be lit!
Did I just step over the line? :)

Step no...
Leap boldly across it whilst runing at first speed yes

I can't decide who I think would be best to hold onto the amulet. On the burning hand, Obi is shy enough to keep it a secret without trying. But, on the tankard holding hand, Eadric is our holy tank, and could hold on to it if push comes to shove. Everyone else is similiar in my veiw...
The Stag is a sacred symbol to Erastil... Durn would wear it openly in tribute to his god.

Argue over it with Bellis then. She's got her holy symbol, so you've got a slight advantage.

I checked this thread first. And when I read "Ellaria's idea of selling the bandits into slavery" my honest to god reaction was o_O what?!. No she didn't! Really? and then proceeded to laugh out loud, eliciting strange looks from my wife. I'm not sure I can live up to your expectation Vanion, but I'll give it my best shot.
The funny thing is, my gut reaction is hmmmmm, that might not be a bad idea. We'll see what Eadric thinks of the idea...
whooo boy! This may take a while... :)
Eadric Cuthwulf
Over an hour later...
Why? Why didn't I play a strong silent type? MUCH less typing involved. Glances at Durn. :)
Would you believe there is/was more? I'll leave it at this for now. This righteous paladin needs some sleep. :)
PS Look what you made me do DK... I'm offering bloody redemption! This can't lead anywhere good! ;) No pun intended!
Cheers and g'nite!

Congrats! How long will you be honeymooning?
...and why will you be posting at all?! ;)
We rented a chalet in Gatlinburg for the week. Leaving tomorrow today is just prepping.
And the reason for being able to post at all is we're both internet addicts and while she's tweeting and facebooking I'll be posting
Eadric Cuthwulf
In all honesty, and upon further reflection, I don't think that length of my posts are solely responsible for the timeline passing one by. That would be the result of the DM wanting to advance the story and ones availability (and time, heck sometimes just the timing) to post frequently. (Something I have in spades right now) The length of my posts might make it time consuming to read to be sure, which I will attempt to rectify in future posts (and truth be known, I'm getting tired of writing these mini essays as much as you are probably tired of reading them.) And I do try and limit the number of actions I perform per post... It is just hard to see that sometimes with all the noise! :)
EDIT: Ninja'd by DK in the other thread!
Look, maybe we'll all get lucky and Eadric will get himself killed in glorious battle and I can make a nice simple, quiet fighter or something to replace him. :)
Also, please note, I will be quite busy this weekend, so you should have ample opportunity to post away without much interference from me! ;)
EDIT PS: Maybe I should take a vow of silence to go along with my vow of poverty! What do you think? ;)
Ellaria
Just wanted to say that selling the bandits to slavery makes sense for Ellaria's idea of justice. She doesn't want to kill them, as that would be too harsh for people who may have made mistakes in their lives, and are perhaps bad. She doesn't want to free them for the same reason. Selling them as slaves would fetch coin to recompensate Oleg and at the same time punish them. She also proposed the "keep them as slaves" solution earlier. In any case, moving around and butchering bandits is completely fine, as long as they don't surrender.

I just want to check and reassure that this "conversation" isn't being misconstrued as anything personal. This is all in character. It is an emotional subject and real life feelings can easily get involved, especially when people who don't know each other personally or know where the other person is coming from (background, life experiences etc).
If Eadric is pushing the line, please let me know. I want this to remain an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Cheers,
Chad
EDIT: Again you ninja me! :) I'm glad to hear I'm not crossing the line! (again!) Truth be known, I really thought long and hard about Eadric views on the slavery option before posting last night. In the end he went against it. The part I mentioned about there being more to his response was in reference to his internal monologue that I was prepared to share... can you imagine how long that post could have been? ;)

Ah the age old paladin conundrum! Except in this case it isn't the paladin whose espousing this belief. I love this PBP! You guys rock! :)
I'm like an addict! I can't get enough of this! Somebody yank out my internet connection! :)
Wait until Ula makes good on his promises and Eadric has to figure out what to do with him then! Here's to hoping he betrays us or dies valiantly trying to help us! ;)

No offense taken. Now we just need to understand how everyone will keep on adventuring as a group, as it seems to get more and more difficult :).

Glad to hear it.
The funny thing is, when I chose paladin as the class I was going to play, I was fully conscious of the "problems" inherit with them in a typical adventuring party. I was sure that I would avoid these issues by playing my paladin less... how do I say this? Less, well, paladiny. I made him the paladin of a CG deity, made him a drunk with emotional baggage and a hair trigger temper walking the finest of lines keeping himself from from adding an "ex" before his class. (It would surprise me if he doesn't at some time become fallen, although I am not striving for this.) In this void I have created, other characters have stepped in to fill in the moral view (which is cool if you ask me). I mean, the paladin is arguing for the death of defenseless captives! How messed up is that? :)
I guess part of it comes down to whether we as players see the reality of this fantasy world as black and white or with shades of grey. Eadric is decidedly in the black and white camp. (As is Bellis apparently. She cheered when Oleg kicked the bandit in the mouth after he had surrendered! The cleric and the paladin. Who would have thought!) I'm not sure what everyone else's thoughts are on this matter. Or if it matters at all.
I've got to say though... I did not see Ellaria coming on this one. Lupus' player and I are friends in real life and we discussed exactly how far we would go with our character's animosity without disrupting the story unduly. (Of course Lupus isn't posting much so... ;) Hopefully we can reach a solution in character that doesn't require Ellaria or Eadric to leave the party. The more I tried to avoid this conflict the worse it became?! :)
I'm sure we can work it out!
Once again. This PBP rocks! Keep it up everyone!
