Inquisitor Spells

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I just hit 6th level and am looking over my spell choices. At this point we have a huge party so I tend to overlap many characters. Ranger, Paladin, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard, and a strength based Monk. At 5th I picked up See Invisible, added to my Cure&Inflict Moderate wounds. Swapped my inflict light out as well since its pretty useless atm. So far our biggest threats have been undead and Saruk(basically badass ancient Yuan ti.

So I got lots of choices but I'm leaning towards Shield Other as I have Protection for my domain. Any suggestions?

What are your spells? It is hard to suggest without knowing what you have.

2nd:

Cure Moderate
Inflict Moderate
See Invisible
X

1st:
Cure Light
Divine Favor
Bane
Hide from Undead

Orisons:
Light
Read Magic
Detect Magic
Acid Splash
+2 junk spells

Also I'm a Tengu so I get 2 languages for each point in linguistics skill.. atm with into 14 I have 16 languages(including Common and Tengu) so tongues would mostly be a waste

Since you have a cleric and a paladin this makes several spells unattractive from your list, Ie the cleric or paladin should be doing most of this stuff.

Remove paralysis is an idea depending on if paladin has it as a mercy on the LOH or not, the other consideration is (in your game) can the paladin LOH himself if he is paralyzed....

If the cleric doesn't have these on tap. (resist energy, lesser restoration) You should. The cleric should have these covered.

Entrall is a spell that you might consider. Dealing with mobs or groups you do not want to harm and since you have no bard...

Other than that shield other seems a good choice.

Invisibility is always useful. The ranger and rogue will love having this cast on them when they are sneaking around.

See invisibility is doubly useful, as you are capable of doing significant damage (at range, I hope).

The inquisitor's spell choice can be very difficult. They don't really need them in combat though. Personally, I prefer non-combat spells on them. With other casting support, I think they should take spells that the other characters will not want to always keep memorized but feel they have to. There are a couple spells that are uniquly good on them though.

Silence, because you and your front line do not need to be casting spells in combat to be effective, but those enemy casters will be very upset with you and your stealth will be much better.

Invisibility. You can always find uses and you will never have enough.

Lesser Restoration is always nice to have arround. Usually you either don't need it or need way more than you have memorized IME, nice for a spontaneous caster.

Resist Energy will be nice. When you need it, you want to be able to cast it on everyone, but its often not worth it for your other casters to memorize more than 1.

Align Weapon if you are fighting lots of stuff with /good DR could be very usefull, and the cleric rarely has this memorized.

I would not recommend Shield Other unless you are a ranged Inquisitor. Front line inquisitors do not have the AoE heal to be taking annother person's damage, unless your cleric doesn't mind focusing on healing you a lot.

Shield other is a poor choice.

1) If you are a ranged attacker, it is really easy to break the close range restriction, especially given that the rogue, ranger, and monk are all moving 30' or faster.

2) The downside of shield other is that it REALLY hurts when you get fireballed. Regular damage, plus half of someone else's. Are you ready for that?

3) I'll give a second vote to Invisibility, Silence, or Resist Energy, all good spells.

4) BUT, given that you're up against undead and yuan-ti, I'd expect a LOT of energy drain, ability drain, and poison (usually more ability drain). Lesser Restoration is really the spell of choice here.

I agree with those spells but I think that enthrall fits the "protection" character concept better....

without the terrible side effects of shield other!

I may have been reeading more into the protection concept than is there!

Thanks for the second look at shield other, didn't take AoE into consideration. As for my party, they mostly llook at dealing the most damage they can as fast as possible. As such the paladin only melee's and has yet to cast a single spell of any kind(she has 7 LoH per day and ends up using 6 for 3 channel energies usually, the cleric uses various buffs and doom choosing to otherwise heal(I tool bane seeing him never use it). Wizard is usually duke nukem + haste. Ranger keeps going between 2hander, twf, and bows as needed(will end up twf master) monk took flying kick and fiery ki, and he's a jotunbrood so he counts as large for melee damage.. who gets 3d6+9 per fiery ki hit, +1d12 on charge.. nuff said lol.

Like I said I tend to overlap a lot with ranger+rogue and a little with everyone else.
