The alchemist's Explosive Bomb discovery says "The alchemist’s bombs now have a splash radius of 10 feet rather than 5 feet." Is this meant to apply to all bombs rather than just explosive bombs? It would appear so, since discoveries such as smoke bomb say "double the splash radius" rather than just 10 feet. However, if one of those discoveries did have a radius of 20 feet, that would make life difficult for an alchemist who could only throw the bomb 20 feet in the first place. What's the correct rule here?

20 ft is a range increment not a range limit.

The alchemist could throw it up to 40 ft at a -1 penalty.

Up to 60 ft at a -2 penalty.

penalty is -2 per range increment without the far shot feat, -1 with it.

According to pg 182 PFRPG core rulebook the max range of thrown weapons is 5 increments or in the case of Alchemist's bombs 100'

20' -0
40' -2
60' -4
80' -6
100' -8

or with farshot feat

20' -0
40' -1
60' -2
80' -3
100' -4

If you were to add the Strong arm supple wrist trait you could move 10ft to you base move speed and add 10' to range increment or

30'
60'
90'
120'
150'

But is the Explosive Bomb discovery meant to increase the splash radius for all bombs to 10 feet, regardless of type?

Dark Archive

I would say yes! In all other discoveries it refers to bomb. In Explosive bombs it states the alchemist's Bombs, being plural would refer to all bombs made by alchemist.

But there's also that little line about "unless otherwise noted, Discoveries that modify bombs do not stack" in the discovery section

For me it seems like you can't really choose to have any bomb have 10 feet or 5 feet, and all bombs that had 5 feet now have 10 feet, and the only thing you can choose is to be an explosive bomb to set the target on a direct hit on fire or make it acid bomb, frost bomb ...

Since it has a *, its my belief that the intent is for it to apply only to explosive bombs. I believe it is worded the way it is because you would replace your normal fire damage dealing bomb with the explosive bomb which deals fire damage AND lights people on fire.
