Druid Wildshape / Beast Form Spell Question

Rules Questions

Dark Archive Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games

So, I am playing a Druid for the first time in Pathfinder and am having trouble figuring out what stats to use when I Wild Shape.

The description of Wild Shape indicates it works just like the Beast Shape spells, which tell me I take on the appearance of an animal, and as I progress in level I am able to perform more and more of the animals' abilities (Burrow, Fly speed, etc.).

My questions are:

- What are my stats (STR, DEX, etc.)? Do I keep my stats, or take on the animal's stats?

- Do I keep my hit points or use those of my animal form?

- What about my AC? Do I keep mine, or adopt the animal's AC?

I have not been able to find a definitive answer anywhere, so I am hoping my fellow Paizonians could either point me in the right direction, or let me know my stats while Wild Shaping so I can effectively use this class ability.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Beast Shape tells you what stat adjustments to make. For instance, if you turn into a Medium sized animal, you get +2 Str and that's it.

You keep your hit points, although you might get some extra (temporary) hit points if you get a bonus to your Con score.

You keep your AC, although your armor doesn't work (see the description of the Polymorph subschool) and you might get a natural armor bonus and/or a size bonus or penalty.

At any rate, you don't get anything other than what it states in (a) the description of Polymorph spells in general, or (b) the relevant Beast Shape/Elemental Body/Plant Shape spell in particular.

Thanks, Hogarth! This helps. Although, I must say that if I become an elephant, I've got to be the weakest elephant ever. A Huge elephant with a 18 Strength (my base Strength is 12) is hardly overwhelming. I was hoping there would be more to it than what I saw in the spell. I may have to think this through a bit the next time I play a Druid...

Yes. There are mixed opinions on the issue.

Check out Treantmonk's Druid guide for some good guidlines regarding wildshaping (as well as spells, feats etc)

Essentially, if you plan on doing much combat wildshaping (as opposed to wildshaping into birds in order to scout for instance) you really need to put you highest stats in your physical attributes (STR and CON) so when you wild shape into that elephant, you have good combat related scores to start with.

Druid question:

If I change from a dwarf to a tiger which speed do I keep? I find it hard to swallow that my land speed would not change to 40 as a beast when you can change into something to get a 60ft burrow at the same level he is now. Is this ruling explained anywhere?

Base speed changes to the base speed of the form. Other speeds (flight, swim, etc.) depend upon the level of wild shape.
