I'm doing my PHD in Psychology specifically clinical psychopharmacology, my husband will be doing a post doctoral contract studying skuas in the shetlands. It`ll be a lot of work but hopefully a lot of fun as well.

That sounds cool. I'm actually a bit jealous... I've been trying for a few years now to get my act together and go back to school for my PhD.

Well looks like once again I'm the only Scot posting in a thread regarding Scotland.Mind you I live up the top end and Glasgow is a foreign country ;)

Jeremy I'll just say that you and you other half will be made most welcome .Just remember not to get into any discussions over Politics, Religion or Football(soccer for our American Friends)Come to think off it in Glasgow..those are one topic not three

Looks like DM Wellard and I have the UK flanked then :)

Jeremy, if the year I spent in Dundee is any yardstick to measure Scotland as a whole by, you will have a fantastic time.

I have only been to Glasgow a couple of times, both for boozy weekends of Roleplaying (Yay Student Nationals!) and I have nothing but fond memories. Admittedly I only stayed in the very centre of the city but that is apparently the best bit anyway.

Because it's part of heaven itself?
No, because you can tell a European by his garlicky breath.

So Europe is Greece and France now?

You can tell a POM by the blandness of their food, inablity to win at sport and the ability to claim any military victory won for them by Commonwealth forces as an English victory or if they are feeling a little generous a British victory.

Then again they say that we Australians are the most balanced people in the world, because we have a chip on both shoulders. :-)

Wellard I thought you were a Scot not one of the Sassenach. A lot of those convicts were Jacobites and victims of the clearances.

Well, thanks for the well wishes. I've now been officially put onto an excercise regiment (my husband tells me I need to be able to hike in order to explore Europe properly). So the next nine months are going to include me getting into shape. I suppose if people request it I could post some pics of the newfoundland coastline and it is iceberg season.

Ok here is some of the pics I'll get more in the next few days hopefully.

So we just got back from a few days in Scotland. Alex had to go sign a contract and meet with his new employer. He'll be starting this summer in the shetlands. Anyhow we went out for dinner at a small pub in Glasgow. The bartender asked us where we were from. We told him Canada and that we were just here setting up some preliminary stuff before we move to Glasgow in the beginning 2011. Anyway we finished our meal and went to pay. He stopped us said that there was no charge and welcome to your new home boys and see ya soon. How freakin nice was that? Seriously.
