Two-weapon Armor Spikes ALONE

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Everyone asked about Greatsword/Armor Spike two-weapon fighting, claiming it was an old question from 3.5. I have a different question:

Armor spikes claims "You can also make a regular melee attack (or off-hand attack) with the spikes, and they count as a light weapon in this case." My question is, can I do both? Could I make my main hand AND off-hand attacks with the armor spikes?

The effect is that it saves me having to buy two weapons. Kinda like that feat in the beta, except without the -2 on the offhand attacks (and not costing a feat, unless you need the martial prof). The disadvantage is that it's a low quality weapon; deals 1d6, 20 x2 crit range/multiplier. This would be a good idea for, say, a combat maneuver/wrestler fighter who got it into his head to diversify with some two-weapon fighting.

If you have two-weapon fighting, then yes, I think you'd be able to make two armor-spike attacks, since it'd be like wielding paired daggers.

Nope. Not anymore than you could TWF with one dagger and 'quickdraw'ing it back and forth as needed,

As a man who abhors abject stupidity in gaming I would allow it. Sometimes you have to ignore the abstractions because it hurts the brain too much not to.

Yeah, this is one area where common sense should trump the rules.

By litteral RAW James is correct. However, it's silly to arbitrarily limit it like that because it does make sense. Especially since it's such a weak weapon. If you took the feats, I would allow it.

It makes sense. Do you just have one spike on your armor? A large one sticking out the front? You slash some one with your sword then try to chest bump them. Two weapon fighting! Woo hoo!

Dark Archive

Does the armor have sleeves? Gauntlets perhaps? If there are spikey bits on both sleeves (or gauntlets), that's good enough for two-weapon fighting, I'd imagine.

(Sadly, armor spikes on your helmet and greaves won't help you qualify for Multi-Weapon Fighting, since you aren't a Monk, and your entire body doesn't count as a weapon, and if you were a Monk, your ability to strike with your left butt-cheek for full damage wouldn't apply to your use of armor spikes.)

agree that RAW, it is considered one weapon, which is a bit silly.
but, if you make it into more than one weapon, you are back to enchanting several weapons (assuming that you want to be consistent).

as a GM, I would probably let you do it though in light of the crappy weapon quality and also the creativity!

Nope. Allowing it obviates the need for enchanting a second weapon. Too much of a benefit for me.

And I say that as someone who would allow armor spikes with TWF and a Greatsword, as well as armor spikes with TWF with a one handed weapon and a shield.

Ahh see I am one who wouldn't allow armor spikes with a Greatsword to TWF, in fact I houserule that armor spikes have a reach of 0ft so in order to even use them as a weapon you'd need IUS.
