Hi all,
Looking to regain some of its former glory in the New World, the throne of Taldor, in an alliance with House Avenstar of Absalom and the Pathfinder Society, is embarking on a historic voyage to establish a colony in Arcadia. The journey is treacherous and opportunities abound for scoundrel and saviour alike to prove their mettle.
This is a homebrew Golarion campaign taking the PCs on a voyage across the Arcadia Ocean to help establish a new colony. It will contain equal parts of combat (more emphasis on wilderness than dungeon crawls) and diplomacy/intrigue as the PCs are immersed in the backroom dealings of the colonial leaders, deciding which side to take, or perhaps even create a "side" of their own. This will be a relatively low-treasure style of play (or at least low on the "traditional" view of treasure).
I'm looking for a party of 5 or 6 PCs - all 1st level - and while not necessary, group proposals are encouraged. If interested, please send me a description of your character including the usual things such as name, class, background, history, personality, and motivation for getting on board the colony ship (ship puts into port in Cassomir and Absolom). Also helpful would be an idea of your posting rate and a good e-mail address. Please send all this to gmnazard(at)gmail(dot)com.
I'd like to have at least 10 entries to pick from, so I'll give it until Wednesday evening, and will let people know either way.

I'm interested, my concepts are sent. If anyone's interested in putting together a party concept, my two ideas were:
* A wizard, probably Conjurer, who is also a bureaucrat, micromanager type. A junior politician with mixed motives to attempt the expedition.
* An escaped convict who jumped on the first boat he saw to stow away from the city. Alternately, he could have been assisted in his escape by friends or family, with passage paid for or arranged otherwise to get away from the mainland. This screams rogue, but almost anything could fit.

My brother and I have been running around submitting paired concepts all over the place. Count me and Drogar in! ( if you'll have us) We might have a third as well.
Bloody Rugburn, We love the escaped from prison and hoping on the boat Idea. AS for Drogar and I, we'd like to play shady criminals. We'd both like to stay away from Evil...more, lets call it unscrupulous.
Don't get me wrong, sure we were theives, but it aint really stealing if your starvin...so we stole gold, when we could of stole bread, but hey we were hungry for more than a loaf
I've got two Ideas, If we were all prisoners, we could have staged a break and just stowed away as we started loading the very busy voyage ship, it was easy to blend in and the shipmates weren't going to turn away strong backs willing to help.
the other is that one of us got away with the gold and bribed the guards to let the others out of jail and paid our way onto the ship.
as far as class and race it is pretty flexible.
but anywho, we'd love to build a story with you guys.

I must say I'm warming to the idea of a group of escaped prisoners. Would this be a group escaping in Cassomir or Absalom?
As for equipment, to help counteract the expected low levels of treasure it was my intention to allow max starting gold times 1.5, including one masterwork item (if you can afford it). If you want a group of escaped prisoners, would your characters have any qualms about a quick smash and grab at an adventuring store?
At the moment, I've received a halfling cavalier or barbarian, a rogue, and a half-orc inquisitor.

While Hobart would not normally steal as he sees it this is a special circumstance, and as his previous gear was confiscated on his capture it could be used to reimburse the shopkeep. My vote is Cassomir, but if the majority wants to say Absalom It's ok with me. Edited to add my choice of where to be escaping from.

I'm certainly keen. Recent games have folded or not started, so I'm interested before any details came out.
Then the concept of escaped convicts links neatly to a character that I've created twice but never gotten past fifty posts with. A rogue/assassin that killed for just reasons but as is the nature of the role, was eventually imprisoned.
The class is a rogue but the build is more of an assassin. Think of the Night Angel trilogy if you have read it. Finesse with weapons, death-dealling, neutral to chaotic good in alignment.
I will email you later (say four hours from this posting) with much more detail - as you prescribed.
| Eriniyes |
Eriniyes is looking to get as far away from Absolom as possible. Having just taken her revenge on the two men who killed her son, she is homeless and without a family. Hearing about the charter to Arcadia, she asks for permission to join the expedition.
Email sent and character sheet fleshed out on Eriniyes' page! She is a half-elf escaped slave witch.

Smash and grab would be just fine. The other option I was looking at was an escape through the basement level of the prison. On the way out, we stumbled across the lock up where prisoners' personal effects are stored while they serve their time. Moving quickly for fear of discovery, we grab what we can that we think would be useful in our flight. I thought that would help explain any more exotic items (like unusual holy symbols). Also, if a particular item is linked to a character's history (like a family heirloom), that character may have gotten lucky and found it in the mad scramble. If anyone has a familiar or animal companion, perhaps they are kept in the same area or nearby.

Agreed, finding their equipment in the next room is what I had decided to go with, as it allows for wizard characters (not going to find your own spellbook in some random equipment store).

I know I said Wednesday night, but I had no idea so many people would be interested in a long voyage to the back end of nowhere! I'll keep it open until Tuesday eveningish: even just an idea about a character or expression of interest, don't even need a fleshed out sheet yet.
At the moment, I have seven interested players, which is a bit bigger than I had first thought, but the nice thing about PbP is that you can handle a larger party as long as people are okay with the action occasionally moving on without waiting on everybody to post something. If I don't get any more new expressions of interest, I'll close it off and welcome in the seven I've received so far, otherwise I'll have to make the difficult choices of which characters to pass on.
At present, I've received ideas for a conjuror or rogue, a halfling cavalier, a half-orc inquisitor, a half-elf ranger, an assassin-type rogue, a halfling sorcerer, and a half-elf witch. Not exactly an iconic party, but that's two-thirds the fun!

I have created a pair of campaign traits for this pbp, of which you can take one.
Colonial Spirit (Campaign): Whether through a long family tradition of exploration and conquering new lands, or a strong personal determination, you excel at tight situations where others would despair and give up. You know that life on the frontier means no back-up or relief if things go poorly and you have to buckle down to get the job done. Whenever you are in a situation where half or more of your party is incapacitated, you receive a +1 trait bonus to attack rolls and a +1 morale bonus to saves versus fear. These bonuses last until the encounter is over or enough allies have been revived that more than half of your force is back in the battle.
Always on the Run (Campaign): For whatever reason, circumstances of your past have never allowed you to remain in one place for any length of time. Whether it's ducking underneath the reaching arm of the law or slipping past a pair of back alley brutes, you always seem to manage to stay away from those who would do you harm. You get a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks of opportunity caused when you move out of or within a threatened area. A condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses.
Also, I'm using a 25-pt buy, not because I have munchkin-love, but because you'll need the extra ability scores to help compensate for low treasure. Keep track of your arrows and crossbow bolts, folks.

It would be an interesting mechanic to all be prisoners of some kind, especially if we don't know what crimes were committed by the others. Long-term prisoners might not have talked about their crimes, alleged or actual, and the trust in the group only goes as far as the secret that they're all escapees. Rumors say that Black Bart burned down an orphanage? Is it true? All you know about him is that he had no problem breaking that guard's neck on the way out.
As far as prisons, I'd bet that Cassomir would be easier to get away from than Absalom. Since concepts have been submitted for a rogue and a sorceror already, I'll look into making an oracle or something capable of healing.

Normally I have multiple character ideas, but when I saw the subject of this campaign I knew that I already had one perfectly suited:
this is all in the email I just sent, but I'm re-posting for the benefit of the other players
Zvelenka, a Sorceress from the Land of the Linnorm Kings. Her great-grandfather fought a Linnorm but refused to kill it, instead befriending it. Because he didn't actually kill a Linnorm, he was not recognized as a king. Zvelenka grew up hearing this story, and tried to change the tradition. Being very stubborn and outspoken, and not particularly tactful, she was eventually exiled. She is convinced that the way to prove her point is to have many epic adventures until she can come back home and prove her point through brute strength.
Given that the Linnorm Kings are the only known group to have successfully established a colony on Arcadia, establishing a second one would be an ideal way for her to prove herself.
Mechanically, she's a sorceress using the Linnorm bloodline from Wayfinder #2 (it's very similar to the Draconic bloodline, but gives senses instead of claws). She focuses on unarmed combat and ice, cloud, and fear based spells.

So no stats in profile yet, but I thought I would pop in and say hi. I was curious who all has escaped from imprisonment. Do we want to discuss what we know of each other. All know that I am disgusted with the authorities for convicting me of grave robbing. I am a servant of Pharasma. You have seen the strange comet birthmark on my palm. I like to be a bit quarrelsome, but tend to pick fights with those who try to bully the weaker inmates. Me and Rorse bicker back and forth more messing with each other then true animosity after the savage little halfling dropped the rather large fellow who thought to make the halfling do his bidding.
Is there a mastermind for our breakout, or was it more an opportunity seized upon at the moment? I am going to stick with the inquisitor. ( I really want to give it a go:D ) looking forward to this very much.
I'm guessing max hp at first?
| Titus Cagnaletti |
I really like Titus's Background He's been rotting in there for awhile I
can see Hobart giving him some respect as a guy who knows how to get along , and as an elder since he spent his youth in the temple with the clergy. If you prefer to be called "Pops" Hobart is your man. :)
Sorry, I didn't get in. Good luck with the game though.
