My Deities List

Homebrew and House Rules

I have revised the list of deities that I will use for Pathfinder games, perhaps due to familiarity and my traditionalist ways or perhaps because I just enjoy tinkering with stuff. Anyway here it is, let me know if you think there are any gaps that need to be filled.

Torm LG God of Honor, Valor, Justice Longsword
Moradin LG God of the Forge, Protection, Strategy Warhammer
Ehlonna NG Goddess of Hunting, Farming, Family Longbow
Pelor NG God of the Sun, Healing, Redemption Scimitar
Corellon CG God of Freedom, Inspiration, Art, Music Rapier
Desna CG Goddess of Dreams, Stars, Travelers, Luck Kukri
Irori LN God of History, Knowledge, Self-Perfection Unarmed Strike
Waukeen LN Goddess of Wealth, Cities, Trade Light Crossbow
Chauntea N Goddess of Nature, Weather, the Sea Spear
Nethys N God of Magic Quarterstaff
Pharasma N Goddess of Fate, Prophecy, Birth, Death Sickle
Mask CN God of Intrigue, Shadows, Trickery Short Sword
Tempus CN God of War Greatsword
Bane LE God of Tyranny, Conquest, Vengeance Battleaxe
Bhaal LE God of Murder, Lies, Contracts, Poison Dagger
Myrkul NE God of Undeath, Corruption, Disease Scythe
Shar NE Goddess of Darkness, Loss, Pain Flail
Lamashtu CE Goddess of Madness, Nightmares, Monsters Falchion
Rovagug CE God of Wrath, Disaster, Destruction Greataxe

Corellon and Moradin are not considered the "heads" of the elves and dwarves respectfully, but are able to be equally worshipped by any race, though many elves do worship Corellon and likewise for dwarves and Moradin.

Wrong forum (I think this belongs to the houserule section).

About the list:

Lawful good:
I like the noted absence of a LG good of arrogance, like Tyr. Torm always seemed to me like the good type of LG deity. "Perfect yourself, don't judge others about their perceived shortcomings. I'm talking about YOUR duty, follower. I won't reward critics."

And then, there's Moradin, god of stereotypes. You could use Torag instead, or call him Captain Dwarf or something, doesn't make that much of a difference ;-P

If you want to add anything, add a deity of tradition to either LG or LN

Neutral good:
I'm not very familiar with or attached to Greyhawk, so I personally would replace Pelor with Lathander, or, even better, with Serenrae!

Same with Ehlonna, I'd probably sooner get Mielikki, or even replace her with Erastil for his stern father gig.

But you have one huge, gaping hole here: Love deity! Shelyn would probably clash with Corellon, so maybe Sune - or go wild and get in Calistria and make her goddess of lust AND love at once.

Chaotic good:
I honestly miss Cayden Cailean, or some other reckless fool deity here. Desna's not quite the right fit for that in my opinion.

Lawful Neutral:
I never thought of Waukeen as the deity of civilisation. It's probably due to the fact that the Realms have a thousand deities, so they all have a more narrow focus. I guess she can take Abadar's part, if she can also do the whole "absolute order!" thing.

Neutral:
I never pictured Chauntea as the absolute nature deity, so I'd personally go with Sylvanus or Gozreh here.

Chaotic Neutral:
Mask as non-evil?

Lawful Evil:
Bhaal is giving off weird vibes: lies are not lawful. Half-truths and evasions maybe, but outright lying is so not lawful.

Neutral Evil:
It might be my preference for Golarion, but I think Zon-Kuthon would be a better fit. The whole S&M thing is better off in the order camp. Maybe Shar and Bhaal should trade places here (or you use Zon-Kuthon and Norgorber instead).

Chaotic Evil:
Well, all the chaos and evil seem to be covered (minus the extra deities for CE races, which won't be so popular with the normal humanoid races).

You make some valid points, but dont consider the deities as exact counterparts to their FR personas, but rather they are modeled after them with slight tweaks. Like Waukeen as the deity of civilization, which she is not in FR, merely wealth and trade, this was done to broaden them a bit. There personalities will somewhat mirror their alter egos from FR, but will be brought more inline with their new roles (such as Chauntea as TN mother nature).

In some instances, such as with Chauntea and Waukeen, I had replaced a female deity with a male one (Pelor for Serenrae, Torm for Iomeade), so I needed to bring in another female deity to even the numbers back out.

As to Bhaal, I wanted to make him NE, I think it would fit as a replacement for Norgotber even though he was LE in FR, but that would leave only one lawful evil deity in Bane. I think I may switch Shar and Bhaal around like your suggestion though. As for Mask, I have always wished he was a nuetral god rather than evil, I get why he was evil in FR but even if you read about him hes not as inherantly evil versus gods such as Bane, Cyric, Talos, Shar, ect. Think of him a little more like Olidamarra here, but retains the intrigue and shadowyness about him, basically he is still all about thievin, but isnt all evil bad guy about it.

As for the Pathfinder deities that stayed, they were either a hybrid of gods (such as Desna, who is basically just Selune and Tymora combined) or were unique enough to warrant keeping (such as Lamashtu)

Overall thanks for the feedback!

I always saw Chauntea as the Nature deity from the perspective of civilization. Goddess of the Harvest and all that, kind of like the Realms version of the Greek Ceres. For the more wild nature type I always preferred Silvanus myself. Perhaps they make sense as a pair?

I am always happy to see Torm used, as he has always been the God of "Not Lawful Stupid" paladins that attracted me to the FR in the first place. Are you going to be using his rival/girlfriend/chess partner the Red Knight at all?

Personally I like the idea of pairs for the alignments, but I think that tossing in the specific racial deities as part of the base set seems a wee bit off.

Here is the revised list, you might notice I've made a few additions.

Torm LG God of Honor, Valor, Justice, Duty Longsword
Chauntea LG Goddess of Community, Agriculture, Family Sickle
Moradin LG God of the Forge, Protection, Crafting Warhammer
Lathander NG God of the Sun, Healing, Redemption Scimitar
Mielikki NG Goddess of Hunting, Exploration, Woodlands Longbow
Sune NG Goddess of Love, Beauty, Humor, Compassion Mace
Corellon CG God of Freedom, Inspiration, Art, Music Rapier
Desna CG Goddess of Stars, Dreams, Travel Starknife
Kord CG God of Courage, Athletics, Strength, Alcohol Greathammer

Helm LN God of Strategy, Tradition, Civilization, Law Halberd
Irori LN God of History, Knowledge, Self-Perfection Unarmed Strike
Waukeen LN Goddess of Wealth, Trade, Enterprise Light Crossbow
Silvanus N God of Nature Spear
Nethys N God of Magic Quarterstaff
Pharasma N Goddess of Fate, Prophecy, Birth, Death Dagger
Calistra CN Goddess of Luck, Passion, Lust Whip
Mask CN God of Intrigue, Shadows, Trickery Short Sword
Tempus CN God of War Greatsword

Bane LE God of Tyranny, Conquest, Vengeance Battleaxe
Shar LE Goddess of Darkness, Loss, Pain Flail
Bhaal NE God of Murder, Secrets, Plots Kukri
Myrkul NE God of Corruption, Decay, Undeath Scythe
Talona NE Goddess of Disease, Poison, Plague Glaive
Lamashtu CE Goddess of Madness, Nightmares, Monsters Falchion
Rovagug CE God of Destruction, Wrath, Disaster Greataxe
Umberlee CE Goddess of the Sea, Storms, Jealousy, Spite Trident

I am wanting to add one more LE deity as to even things out with 3 per alignment, but I am having trouble finding an area that hasnt already been covered, any suggestions? Also domain lists are incoming.

what about Asmodeus or Gargauth, or something with portfolios of bureaucracy, conformism, prejudice, fear, or greed, envy, opportunism, betrayal etc.

when I wanted for players to be less familiar with the world I did a similar thing with gods, for example Abadar and Waukeen merged into ''Comerike'' with portfolios of culture, trade, customers, business, wealth, repositoring, sponsorship, community, charity, civilization, cities, sophistication, or Jergal and Groetus became the Doomscribe of fate, time, endings, inevitability, truenames and ash, and over a hundred more.

And here is the domains list.

Torm Good, Knowledge, Law, Nobility, War
Chauntea Community, Good, Healing, Law, Protection
Moradin Artifice, Earth, Good, Law, Protection
Lathander Fire, Glory, Good, Healing, Sun
Mielikki Animal, Good, Plant, Travel, Weather
Sune Air, Charm, Good, Luck, Protection
Corellon Chaos, Good, Liberation, Magic, Travel
Desna Chaos, Good, Luck, Protection, Travel
Kord Chaos, Charm, Good, Luck, Strength

Helm Glory, Law, Nobility, Protection, War
Irori Healing, Knowledge, Law, Rune, Strength
Waukeen Artifice, Charm, Law, Protection, Travel
Nethys Destruction, Knowledge, Magic, Protection, Rune
Pharasma Death, Healing, Knowledge, Repose, Water
Silvanus Air, Animal, Earth, Fire, Plant, Water, Weather
Calistra Chaos, Charm, Knowledge, Luck, Trickery
Mask Chaos, Darkness, Luck, Travel, Trickery
Tempus Chaos, Destruction, Glory, Strength, War

Bane Destruction, Evil, Law, Strength, War
Gargauth Charm, Evil, Law, Nobility, Trickery
Shar Darkness, Death, Destruction, Evil, Law,
Bhaal Death, Destruction, Evil, Luck, Trickery
Myrkul Death, Evil, Knowledge, Magic, Rune
Talona Animal, Death, Destruction, Evil, Plant
Lamashtu Chaos, Evil, Madness, Strength, Trickery
Rovagug Chaos, Destruction, Evil, Strength, War
Umberlee Chaos, Destruction, Evil, Water, Weather

So some of these were easy to do, others not so much and resulted in some streching. Not having all the domains updated is a real pain, as there were several I wanted to use like Tyranny, Retribution, Trade, Time, Fate, Balance, Renewal, Planning, Hatred, Suffering, and Undeath, and probably some others from the Spell Compendium would fit well too.

Let me know if something seems out of place or I'm missing something, feedback, as always, is welcome.

I'd avoid changing the domains of any established deity from the original source too far. I have a bit of trouble wrapping my head around Torm having the Knowledge domain instead of Protection, personally. The domains you have listed make me think more of Tyr than anyone else.

I'd also consider a female war deity, such as the Realm's Red Knight, or her inspiration from mythology, Athena/Minerva.

I also prefer the concept of a neutral death deity rather than an evil one, but that is just me.
