I live in Huntsville, AL. I've taken classess at UAH.
I don't care about the D&D angle of this investigation or news story.
The real questions I have is why was this woman wandering the streets after:
1) what appears to be a murder cover-up of her younger brother (according to news stories, it tokk 3 shotgun rounds toaccidently kill him - 2 missed);
2) was she a serious suspect in the attempted mail-bombing of a supervisor and why was she removed from the suspect pool?
Those are real questions. The school's routine background checks turned up nothing because none of these records were in the "routine" portion of her background.
That's what the Herald needs to focus on. Those are the important questions.
Losers.

The point is they're not. They're focusing on the (non-existent) DnD aspects of it.

No, I just don't like it when someone refers to people who enjoy hunting as rednecks. It's prejudice, and a somewhat ignorant statement.

Only if it isn't true.

And it isn't. I myself once enjoyed hunting. I grew up in Metaire, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. I went to a private catholic highschool, college, and am now a mechanical engineer working for the Navy. I am most definitely not a redneck.
Neither is my older brother, who still enjoys hunting. He lives in Houston and is one of the top sales reps of a Laundry and Dry Cleaning support business.
Neither is one of my gaming buddies, who grew up here in Philadlephia and is currently a social worker.
Neither is one of my co-workers. He grew up in New York city, attended a Merchant Marine academy, and is also now an engineer working for the Navy.
I could go on...
Are some hunters rednecks? More than likely.
Are all hunters rednecks? Not at all.
Try thinking before you blatantly insult hundreds, if not thousands, of people world-wide.

Blatantly insulting hundreds, if not thousands of people in the world is not a new thing for me. I think about it all the time...those poor, poor people who will never read my posts and thus never take the constructive criticism...it just breaks my big ole' heart near in twain.
Also, may I point out that rednecks can go to college and still be rednecks. Saying otherwise is like saying black people who go to college are no longer black people. One does not negate the other.
People are just plain fun. Going to paizocon?

Constructive criticism is one thing. Insulting people for the sake of insulting them is being a jackass.
And, no, I'm not going to Paizocon. The flight/hotel would cost too much and that's money the wife and I can spend better.

How much do you need?

I don't need anything. I can afford the trip, but have higher priority things to spend those dollars on - like fixing up my house, paying down my debts, etc.

Naah, I've only got the one gun anymore, and it's a handgun for home protection. Luckily, I haven't had to use that ammo.
I do spend some on booze though.....

You? You're done.

I sent them a letter to the editor. It's not much, but it lets them know what one ready felt about the matter.
2 incidents out of all the people who currently play RPGs is like saying that because there's a few dozen violent career offenders in the US prison system who are from the Boston area, being from Massachusetts makes you a killer.

Sean K Reynolds Contributor |

Didn't one of the Paizo people SWEAR to us that there was no way that the Wisconsin Prison ruling could ever be used against the community? Something about the ruling stating that it wasn't against D&D in general, just that it could be used as a code for gang-related activities and that everything is clearly stated in the write-up.
Yeah, you're totally right, a 240-world article with the headline "Suspect in slays fan of ‘Dungeons’" is going to be the straw that broke the camel's back about the public perception of D&D. If only Pat Pulling knew the power of a short, poorly-written, poorly-researched article with a mangled, incomprehensible headline!
Seriously, folks.
Now. Who wants to bet on how long before THIS article is used as a basis to attack the D&D community for some other issue? Perhaps a school will ban D&D game club due to the 'preponderance of evidence linking D&D to violent crimes' then citing this article AND the Wisconsin incident?
D&D survived Pat Pulling's mad crusade in the 80s. It'll survive this retardo excuse for a journalist's half-assed article.

I thought, why not play to stereotype?
As far as people on the internet I want to punch in the face (potiiwtpitf) go, Aberzombie ranks fairly low. I'm assuming unless I have a sudden desire to go to Philidelphia and meet him on the street and he has a sign saying "Hi! My Name Is Aberzombie!" he should be safe from my wrath.
I am a benevolent person, I may forgive him for insinuating that I am insulting thousands of rednecks, which could not be farther from the truth. I may not respect someone for shooting at something which can't shoot them back, but I wouldn't assault them.

My Father taught me how to put a bullet through an Eye at half a mile... (He could deflect a bullet off a reed into the eye of a target obscured down the direct line of sight at the same range) but hey where the hell are you going to use that skill these days outside a war? I cant even go hunting because Government privatized all the Crown Land where you could once go shoot a Buffalo or wild cattle.
Considering the Number of Child Molesters who are apparently in Government Positions these days, it was probably something there should have been a government unit for...like Social Services + Deathsquads = coolest job ever.

Let me be the first to point out ...
... the obvious 4th Edition slam!
There's a vicious rumor going around about 4th Edition, that it caused the deaths of five people in 2010. Now, I'm not saying it's true, but if it isn't, then why doesn't WOTC deny it?
I'm just a regular guy like you, I just ask questions.

Your comment is already better researched then the actual article (since you really do know what D&D 4th edition is).

It's not that you're insulting thousands of rednecks. It's that you're insulting those of us that enjoy hunting that AREN'T rednecks.
As for not respecting someone that shoots something that can't shoot back, do you eat meat? If so, you're a BIG hypocrite. Ever thought maybe someone could like hunting because they like to eat meat, and consider just buying a steak to have no respect for the animal that died. At least Bambi gets to run around and do whatever it wants during the life that he does have, and at least hunting gives enough respect to the animal that it isn't just slaughtered.
Now that cow, it sits in a pen most of its life, and has absolutely NO chance against that slaughterhouse.
