Get to work! :)

Enjoy, AZ!

I'm signing off for the night. I've got to sleep off the long drive, and I'm going to be seeing an old friend who's in Charlotte for a business trip tomorrow and Tuesday, so I want to get to work early, so I can leave early.

See you all tomorrow.

Feh. My post misappeared.

:( Reposted because my original post came out of sequence:

Good times are coming up!

My brother will be returning from sea duty on the Eisenhower on the 28th.

My oldest sister and his husband will meet up with him and ride up on the carrier from Jacksonville or Daytona and stay out that week. The middle of my two sisters also lives in Virginia Beach with her family.

My youngest sister (still older than me) will come up on the 27th and bring along her two sons, my Mom, and my neice (the daughter of my oldest sister). They will all be staying with me in my two bedroom and one bathroom apartment. :P

The sleeping arrangements will be like this:

Master Bedroom: my sister and my Mom will use my bed
Computer Room/Office (converted second bedroom): my neice will sleep on an air mattress
Living Room: My two nephews and myself will sleep on the couch (pull-out bed), in the recliner, and on an air mattress.

:D Yeah for sleeping arrangements!

The week will consist of hitting the beach a time or two. I might treat my family to Water CountryUSA for a day. But, that could take one heck of a chunk out of my wallet. Might have to do it anyway. Plus, we will get to spend time with my brother now that he has come back to shore for a little while. He left January 2nd.

This will be the first time that all of my Mother's children that she gave birth to will be together at the same time since my father's funeral. She had my brother in the USN and my two older sisters with her first husband who died in a work accident and then had the youngest of my sisters and myself after marrying my father. My father had one son from his first marriage before marrying my Mom.

That makes me the youngest of six at 39 and soon to be 40. My brother from the USN is fifteen years older with my oldest brother being 21 years older. My parents were born in '31 and '29 and were each the youngest of seven. So, that puts all my grandparents as being born before 1900. Old family, I guess. :)

*sigh* yes sir to you too.

He said there was this one guy who was a high roller's son....gazillionare whatever.....
this guy's mom came over there and paid the commander a visit, said she didn't want anything untoward happening to her boy.
So THAT guy, every day, took water up in an aiprlane to such an altitude as it would form ice. That was his job, man.
Whether that has anything to do with "Iceman" from Top Gun, I seriously doubt it.

Awesome. "The Hump" if my memory recalls correctly.

One of my uncles was just a cook. But, he was just a cook serving in the third army under General Patton. :P Two or three were in the USN during WWII, one in the army air force (radar development program), another in the army, and I'm not sure about the rest. My Father was active duty during the Korean war but did not go overseas.

With that, I am out for the evening myself.

Yeah; I was gonna call it "The Hump" but I explained it out so people would understand what I was talking about.
Wow. Patton.

nitey nite...

My dad just missed WW II because of his youth, but he was old enough to serve in the Occupation of Japan. Oddly enough, he guarded the Royal Palace.

My grandfather missed it til the ass end of the war cos he was 35, so he went over in the occupation too.

He didn't play baseball, did he? My dad did. I think all the baseball players knew each other.

Naah; he liked basketball. Maybe he played baseball; I don't remember.

Oh well, thought we had a 2 degrees of separation thing going on.

So, by far my fave line from my paper. We were supposed to define the difference between educational goals and educational objectives. I like how I worded.

Goals are broad, general intentions that are intangible, abstract, and unable to be validated. Objectives are narrow, precise, tangible, concrete, and are very much able to be validated. In education, both goals and objectives are defined as statements that reveal what learners will be able to do at the end of a school year; however, there are considerable differences between the two. A goal is a nonfigurative and broad statement, under which precise objectives can be grouped together. Objectives are statements that illustrate, in exact, measurable, and obtainable terms, required and desired student results.

Going to shower with hubby, talk at yall in a bit.

both my grandfathers served in WWII. My father's dad was in the Airforce and well he did what he was told. Much like my father due to family connections they were stationed in little out of the way areas. My father served during Vietnam but was stationed in Berlin and had some sort of incident that had him removed from active duty. I never got the full story but once again family names have a lot to do with that. My mothers father served as a cook on a submarine and saw little if any action in the Atlantic. He went on to serve later in the army in Arkansas with a private E. Presley. I have a picture somewhere and if I can ever find it I will post it on FB.

Getting ready to settle down for the night, watch the latest episode of True Blood with my dearest, then get some rest before the new week starts.

It's going to be a doozy, I'm sure.

And I think I should go on record as publicly stating that I never ever, ever, ever, EVER want to be responsible in any way, shape or form, directly or indirectly for the operation of an organization's local area network again...ever.

Sigh.

Anything I can do to brighten someone's day around here?

Attempt 1) I stubbed my toe earlier, feel free to laugh. I did, between hops and curses.

Attempt 2) I saw this blue canary in the outlet by the lightswitch...

Help any?

Anyway, had a nice weekend with my nephews, missed the woman I'm interested as she was out of town, have to get rid of my cat as she keeps insisting on getting fleas, and am still looking for a job (again).

Mixed bag, as always.

Gooooooooooooood morning FAWLTY TOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man. What a weekend.

Saturday. Ah, Saturday. The name alone spurs happy, joyful memories of being able to sleep in and eat pancakes and ice cream for breakfast(dont' tell my mom about that last one), cartoons and spending the whole day in your underwear. As I got older, I realized that more could be done with Saturdays, like playing D&D all day and all night. When I got the second job, I realized that only occasional Saturdays could be used this day, and that these particular Saturdays are never to be squandered. This past Saturday was to be one of these rare, beautiful Saturdays where I could spend the entire day at my friend's house playing D&D(read: Ptolus). I didn't have the internet shift. I didn't have the field shift. I had a weddign to go to the next day, but I would just not stay out all night, get in at a reasonable hour(midnight, ABSOLUTELY no later than 1 AM), and grab some z's since I was going to be driving us all back home from the reception. It was going to be perfect. Just perfect. On Friday night, I arrived in manhattan early, found a deserted Dunkin Donuts and sat down, getting some writing done for both F!TSOW and the Darklight Sisterhood game, and I read my Gamemastery Guide a bit which gave me some insights on what to do with both of these projects. I even got intermittent internet for enjoying DA and some of the gorgeous, gorgeous art. I was in a part of town I liked doing shifts in, and I actually didn't get lost on my way to the meet-up point to start the shift- an extreme rarity. Yup, it was looking like this was going to be quite the weekend...

And then I get a last minute text from the DM's wife, cancelling the game at 11:47 PM that evening.

To say I was incensed would be an understatement. I cancelled not one, but two shifts on a job I love to play this game, and because of a misunderstanding regarding game schedules, the day is shot. At first I thought I was overreacting. But then Saturday came. My wife went out to do some shopping for the wedding, and was offended that I didn't want to go with her to get makeup, leaving the house in a huff. My stepfather went out to spend time with his son on the other side of town. Leaving me staring at the four walls. At first I moped, but then I realized that yes, I had a host of other friends, and proceeded to make some phone calls.

Everyone was busy. Literally. EVERYONE. WAS. BUSY.

I gave thought to going to the Starbucks in Queens via the Greenbelt I discovered not too long ago, but the sky was so dark and angry, I knew that rain was on the way. A few books here and there beckoned me, but I didn't want to read- I read literally every day. I wanted to DO something. Video games did nothing but remind me that I could be out in the world doing some of the stunts I pulled off with the aid of a T.V. and a controller. I get up and decide to give the day a go, when the next door neighbor knocks on the door, needing help with his PSPgo. We spend a full half hour on it, trying to figure out which e-mail address he used to set up his PSN account. The wife returns home at this point, followed by FIL, and what was slowly turning into a tranquil Saturday instead becomes a whirlwind of activity. I've never had a day turn into utter crap like that in a long, long time, and I hope it's another eternity until I experience something like that again.

Sunday did its best to make up for it with the wedding. I saw a lot of people I had not seen since my own wedding, and the food was SUBLIME. I threw my vegetarianism to the side for a day in an attempt to avenge Saturday, and had all manner of steak and filet migon(they actually got medium RIGHT!!!) and fish and everything else imaginable. The wedding cake was chocolate peanut butter. CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER!!!! Sure, I was annoyed that I couldn't drown my sorrows, but the adventure driving home with the aid of a GPS made up for it as I weaved on and off of highways and got lost only to find my way again. I rarely drive on highways, but I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it. FIL got good and snookered and went on and on about how proud he was of my wife and I and how he thought I was a good son in law, and all sorts of other things that if you asked him about now he would either not remember or deny outright. Not a bad day, especially when placed up against Saturday.

Anyway, that was my weekend in a nutshell. This week is going to be weird as I continue to entertain FIL a bit, get the ticket for SC back to NY to wrap up my vacation, and plan a family dinner involving me, my wife, FIL and mom. One that includes sushi.

So, what did I miss?
