Who are your "star" NPCs?

Rise of the Runelords

With so many great NPCs in the RotRL adventure path, I'm curious as to which ones are favorites in your campaign. Whether they're stars because the PCs like them or you like playing them as the GM, I'd like to know who and how it came to be that way.

I never anticipated Daviren Hosk as being a fav, for example, but the PCs just thought he was the coolest, and he's been a regular ever since!

So, which NPCs are faves in your campaign -- and why? :-)

Sovereign Court

Jubrayl was a fun character, I took a funny voice and fake "east european" accent, and my player found him very enjoyable despite his alignment.

Erilyum was a big success, with her tiny annoying voice and her craziness. :)

My PC liked Captain Acacia Uriana (captain of the guard in Magnimar) that they met during the 2nd adventure.

Kaven had a large role in my campaign as well, since he was the brother of one of the PC's. They let him live and he eventually redeemed himself.

And of course, Karzoug was great to play, and my player liked him a lot as a villain. :)

======

Some other NPC's I really enjoyed playing were:
- The ghost of Mr Stoot (scared little Attic Whisperer)
- Rogors Craesby: He was pretty scary!
- The Skinsaw Man - I made him sound like a total psycho.
- Ordikon (Mithral Mage in Runeforge) - another psycho ;)
- Two silly water mephits in the Vault of Greed in Runeforge.
- Vraxeris in Runeforge: arrogant and sarcastic.
- Delvahine and her daughters in Runeforge: they were pretty over-the-top slutty. ;)
- Morgiv in Xin-Shalast (I had him whisper during the entire conversation instead of talking, because I wanted to show that he had been hiding his entire life).

We are only on AP#1, but so far Ameiko Kaijitsu is by far the players favorite NPC to talk to.

If I had to rank them,

1. Ameiko Kaijitsu
2. Madam Niska Mishvanti
3. Brodert Quink
4. Sherriff Hemlock
5. Shayliss Vender (she hates every woman in the adventuring party)

Liberty's Edge

Two words: Kobold. Paladin.

Belor, Shayliss, and Jarvie were/are among the faves in my group. And Brodert of course - he's a kook.

Shayliss

Spoiler:
seduced a member of the party and is now married and pregnant (At Fortress now). The PC in question is a very reluctant adventurer and very reluctant husband, but has been doing both despite himself. (very funny moments between them)

The other NPC that has been highly featured and fun has been Orik.

Spoiler:
He alone survived Thistletop and the group ran into him again in Magnimar and he eventually joined their group as a cohort. After 2 Chapters they finally realized that when they give him a task he doesn't always do the good or right thing.

Grand Lodge

Actually, very surprisingly, the favorite "npc" for my group is Norah, the Hagfish in the Hagfish! Almost every PC has tried to drink the Hagfish water!!! Ick!

The Exchange

I played in Rise of the Runelords and I think that the favorite/ most memorable NPC's of the party are as follows:

Sheriff Hemlock: My rogue had a love/hate relationship with him due to her less than law-abiding tendencies, but always managed to get back on his good side.

Shalelu Andosana- became a good friend to the party, and was romantically involved with one of the pcs until his untimely death

Niska Mvashti- became an advisor and "grandma" to several PC's of Varisian descent, plus we got to play around with her giving several party members Harrow readings

Ameiko Kaijitsu- another NPC that became close friends of the party

Aldern Foxglove- for the creep factor alone!

Kaven- ended up redeeming himself (somewhat), the interaction between the party wanting to kill him but giving him a second chance was great. got involved with my rogue, and they lived happily ever after living a life a crime together

I have to admit I am surprised at the number of people taking the "redemption of Kaven" approach. He's responsible for the deaths of a very large number of good people. The first time I ran this AP, my party couldn't kill him fast enough once they found out what he did. I expect the party in my second go at this AP will largely be the same.

Shalelu is a player favorite, both times.

Kaven in my game

Spoiler:
didn't get exposed for what he did until they fought Lucrecia. The PCs used the smoke to bypass the Shocker Lizards and decided instead of outright killing him, they let him go, provided he went back out through the cave (after the smoke was gone and they were awake of course)

The biggest winners in the NPC department for our campaign have been:

Shayliss Vinder - Currently the apprentice to the party sorcerer (who she tried and failed to seduce), and the lover of absolutely no one. Functions as the originator of an unending stream of comments on the vagrancies of the adventuring life [Last session's best quote, after being blinded, repeatedly acquiring the nauseated condition, reduced in size to Small, and then reduced *again* to Tiny: "What the f--k? No, that's not making it anymore. What do you say when 'what the f--k' isn't making it anymore?"] and non-sequiters.

Brodert Quink - Believed by the party to be a secret mask-wearing crimelord known as 'the Quasit' but still gone to because he's got the Thassilonian knowledge they need. I played up the discrepancy about there not being a listed academic institution in Magnimar and he 'admitted' to being an amateur when pressed... and then, once the players came up with the whole 'masked crimelord' thing, I couldn't *not* run with it.

Daelyn Andosana [renamed and regendered Shaelyn] - Involved with the party fighter who wound up being ennobled and being 'gifted' with Fort Rannnick. (I have two male and two female players, and the males set themselves up with other NPCs so I reconfigured Shaelyn to appeal to the other half of my player-team.] Deadly with a bow, but keeps getting his rear handed to him once the fight moves to melee.

Ameiko Kaijutsu - Now married to the party rogue/swashbuckler after a hysterical courtship where everyone (including Shayliss) was simultaneously playing Cyrano de Bergerac for him without consulting each other. The rogue wound up adopting her family name on marrying her.

The Sandpoint Devil - No, really! They heard all the stories, bought into the myth... and then started adventuring with Shayliss, who is *not* a believer, and rips the legends every time they come up. After a while, folks decided that the locals were, as she said, having them on with the 'Whinnney of Horror from out of the Fog.' Until, that is, the Devil came for the rogue one night between the Kaijutsu manor and Sandpoint and just cleaned his clock. Now he's jonesing for a rematch, and Shaylis is accusing him of making the whole thing up to play a joke on her.

Where is there a kobold paladin in ROTR? I love kobolds...

Anyway, still in BO.

Right now:

Ameiko: The Paladin tried to romance her, but they discovered they were too different.

Madame Mvashti: Does Harrow reading for the party SpellbladeRogue and Hedge Witch.

Shayliss Vinder: SpellbladeRogue has continued to "interact" with her. I think he's just amused at annoying her father too.

The staff of the White Deer Inn: The party is staying here so I had to flesh out the whole family.

Gandalthus: Fun times with the attic whisperer led them to interact with him a bit.

Voon: Enjoys talking with the party wizard.

And of course, from Into the Haunted Woods: Estle Winterbloom. Who is now the party healer.
