The Exchange

I played in Rise of the Runelords and I think that the favorite/ most memorable NPC's of the party are as follows:

Sheriff Hemlock: My rogue had a love/hate relationship with him due to her less than law-abiding tendencies, but always managed to get back on his good side.

Shalelu Andosana- became a good friend to the party, and was romantically involved with one of the pcs until his untimely death

Niska Mvashti- became an advisor and "grandma" to several PC's of Varisian descent, plus we got to play around with her giving several party members Harrow readings

Ameiko Kaijitsu- another NPC that became close friends of the party

Aldern Foxglove- for the creep factor alone!

Kaven- ended up redeeming himself (somewhat), the interaction between the party wanting to kill him but giving him a second chance was great. got involved with my rogue, and they lived happily ever after living a life a crime together

Tiberius is played by my eight-year old. He is a standard sword & board human fighter (bastard sword and tower shield combo).
Basic stats at lvl 9: str 22, dex 13, con 14, int 10, wis 10, cha 12. Feats: Cleave, Exotic weapon (bastard sword), great cleave, improved critical (bastard sword), improved initiative, iron will, power attack, step up, toughness, weapon focus (bastard sword), weapon specialization (bastard sword).

Attack info: +19/+14 with bastard sword for 1d10 +11 dmg (+6 str mod, +2 weapon specialization, +1 for magical sword, +2 from weapons training

Power attack: +16/+11 for 1d10 +17 dmg

If he drops the shield and wields sword two-handed and power attacks: +16/+11 fro 1d10 +20 dmg.

On an average roll of 10, he can normally hit an AC of 29 on his first attack, average damage (roll of 5), 16 points of damage. If both attacks hit, say average 32 points of damage between the two hits.

Now, keep in mind that my son is a lucky little guy with dice rolls, and is known to never roll under a 12 on 20 consecutive d20 rolls. But, his math skills have gotten much better :)

So, for PFS games, what do people find is the average length in rounds for encounters?
Groups of 4, normally get about 6 rounds for a fight EPL+2... Playing with level 3x 8s (although this group included Tiberius- the fighter who makes DMs Cry)in a group during a tier 6-7 (Devil you know part 3 to finish the storyline) not a single fight went more than 3 rounds. The same day, a group of 4 going through Lady of Silver had a 50 minute real-time encounter, in which my ranger almost ran out of bolts for his crossbow.

I would like to know more about this Tiberius.

As for me, I noted that most encounters don't really go beyond 6 or 7 rounds, which to me, is good, as it keeps the gameplay flowing, especially if you're in 5-hour blocks.

The Taldan barbarian could not wait to get Great Cleave. :)

Sorry it has taken this long to say something, been real busy with work.

The boy is my son and he plays a a Taldan Fighter. GMs were flustered when they couldn't hit him with a 26 AC, then he would power attack and great cleave into foes with his trusty bastard sword, minimum damage was 12. Things died horribly.

It makes a father proud. Can't wait for the years to come. He wants to play a druid next.

That's awesome. A poppa darn proud of his up and coming geek son.

I may cry. ;-)

I am said fighter's mom and I was crying tears of joy when he started talking smack to an NPC before a fight at Gencon. It is too cute to watch him read a rule book and ask questions on the rules so he knows what he can do... watch out he wants to learn the rules for spells next.

Oh mistress of cookies; You were in a position, it seems, to have gained detailed knowledge of this: Was this a gaming family you witnessed at GenCon, participating in PFS? (One or more parent and child(ren)?)

They're a gaming family. He's the GM of our CoCT campaign and she's a companion in the group. They're excellent role-players. As for the young Taldan, well, let's just say you're definitely better off when you're in his party. It's a privilege to game with them.

Hi, the better half of said gaming family chiming in :). Our son has been watching us play D & D and other games since birth, so last year we started teaching him how to play. He loves playing and now that he is more comfortable with the rules is starting to make comments "in character" more... it is too cute! We are playing some more PFS scenarios this weekend and he can't wait to hit level 6.

I am running #5 next weekend. Thanks for the useful tips on prepping a mist template handout ahead of time. One question I had was how do you handle the Osirion faction mission? The will is hidden in a scarab worn by the animated corpse. Did you require a search roll for the PC's to find the hidden compartment or did the PC's have to activate the feather token to find the compartment?

Thanks for any feedback.

My RotRL rogue is currently the legal owner of Foxglove Manor. However, she made a deal with Aldern's sisters to "buy" the house from her for 20,000 gp. I only have 17,000 gp left to pay off..lol.

You could be mean like my husband the DM of the game I am in and have any profits generated by the house be claimed by the sister.

My players have looted the legal documents found in Foxgloves townhouse in Magnimar, and figure that they will somehow be able to sell this to generate gold.

Any thoughts how I can twist this around to explode in their faces?

My group that I play in is currently in Sins of the Saviors. The one big issue we have had with magic item drops is all of the damn Rings of Protection +1 that we acquired. It took until the last adventure before +2 rings started to drop as treasure if I remember right. At 50% sell price, and standard price of 2000 gp for a RoP +1 the money does not add up well when trying to upgrade gear at level 11+.

Just my two cents.

I will be offering to run PFS adventures for those who wish to play in the CT area. I am also sure I can convince my wife, or get kristov to help me so we can do mini cons to keep up to date on adventures.

So if you live in the greater New England area, and NY/NJ, drop me an email at deathboy01@gmail.com . This way I can get a list together and send out emails to arrange these gatherings.

Well I guess I am available to play and/or run PFS adventures for the CT/ New England area.......don't know if I want to game with you though Will...... maybe I can get a chance to kill your character for a change.. even though there was the one time when you got eaten by the terror birds in Savage Tide....... just kidding honey....

I will be more than happy to work on the organization, event planning, and paperwork... since you'll ask me to do it anyways and bat your eyelashes at me saying pretty please.

(In case the names don't tip you all off, I am married to Will)

"I too must recognize the talents of the silver-tongued bard Maura. Surely the Dark Prince has blessed you. ;)

Hopefully we will travel together again in future endeavors."

Sythaeryn, while we may disagree on our outlooks in life, it was a pleasure adventuring by your side and bringing a dread and evil pirate to justice. Next time though dear, learn to dodge the sword before it pierces your chest.

My thanks go out to all of the great Dm's that I had. I even managed to avoid sitting at the tables my husband was running!!! Yay, bonus for me. I love my husband to death but he does take inordinate amounts of glee for killing my characters in often horrific overkill manners. Craig, your table for Frozen Fingers was great. That was probably the best overall scenario that I ran thru at GenCon. All in all, most of the players I was with seemed to really know their roles and got really into everything.

I played all 4 adventures. Silken Caraven and Frozen Fingers took my groups the longest. Silken Caraven was pretty tough for 1st level and we got really bogged down in several of the combats. Frozen Fingers, my group spent more time rp'ing than in actual combat. Overall, I had a blast at Gencon and really enjoyed gaming with most of the people at my tables.
