There is a shadow-war going on, with the factions vieing for power in the underground. Unfortunately, the prestige points do not count for anything other than personal gear able to be bought, so storyline won't be affected by it.
There is a reason for the missions and they will become clear soonish. Stay tuned.

Do I remember correctly that there is a bigger plot going on in addition to the actual missions?
I'm not tuned in to an overarching metaplot, but in several of the scenarios I've written thus far, I've planted seeds that I hope to be able to develop in later scenarios I want to pitch. I'm also looking for ways to revisit old missions in new ways as the seasons progress, though I haven't had a chance to do this one yet. And I'm just one writer out of dozens, so whether this tactic gets picked up Society-wide is up to Josh.
This tactic is already in use, will continue to be used, and starting in March will ramp up very quickly to a full blown metaplot starting with the 2011 season kicking off at Gen Con this year.
