Howdy,

I would like to introduce our little project called Conflict Roleplaying. An RPG supplement written and designed by Mark Scott, John Ling, Amber Scott and Brendan Davis. Here is an excerpt about the table-top game and how to get your hands on a copy. Let us know what you think!

PVP + PFRPG

At its heart, Conflict® is like any other roleplaying game. You have stats that determine what your character can do, you determine his actions, and you roleplay his exchanges with the world. The difference is that Conflict® focuses on tactical combat versus other players and teams. Driving the combat are clearly defined objectives and your team's will to win. These matches are about tactics, strategic planning and a new way to have fun with the game you already love. This system is fully compatible with the Pathfinder® Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook™.

The Conflict Roleplaying Rulebook is designed for competitive, team vs. team roleplaying which includes:
•The Battlepoint System™—For ensuring game balance among characters and levels..
•Match Types™—Different objectives, challenges or scenarios that make each match surprisingly unique.
•Map Elements™— Magical devices that hinder opposing teams or enhance your teammates.
•Conflict Laws™—Rules that dictate character classes, environmental handicaps or player interactions.
•Team Feats™—Feats that grant bonus and special abilities to teammates when they compete together.
•Pre-generated characters—for immediate play with multiple spell lists or worn weapons for each character.
•Passcards™ —Templates to adjudicate player character’s hidden movements and actions.

This book also contains the framework needed for GMs to create their own designs of any of the following:
Conflict-Compatible Maps | Conflict Laws | Map Elements | Character Building

Looks pretty interesting, I'll say. Can't wait to check it out. :)

So I played this a few months ago at a play test in long island NY (I live there :) . I am not a p vs. p guy but this is sooo different. You actually have teams and objective instead of running around killing things. You and your team have to come up with a plan and tactically execute it in about 10 rounds while taking on other PCs.

In the match we played we had to escort one of out team-mates (a king) across the battlefield where the other players played a team of assassins and setup an ambush against us. We couldn't hide our king because of oversize crown over his head. So we decided to give everyone on the team the identity crown via major and minor image. Confused the living heck out of the opposing teams.

We ended up wining in the 8th round after I died (a glory-filled self-sacrifice) and the king dived through the hallow (an exit point) with only 8 hit points left.

It was very different type of pathfinder gaming and allot fun. Whole new angle on one-shot games. Definitely worth 25 bucks. Although I think the maps are sold separately…

Yep, just check out their site, maps are sold separatly and doesn't come with the core rulebook. Althought the map looks pretty sweet and is pretty big, (24x36).

Lantern Lodge

This looks awesome and is absolutely going on my wishlist.

Bought the PDF and the map! Looks really cool. The Map Elements are magic devices or Squares that your team can use to screw with the other teams on the map or help your team along. There's a map element called the Guillotine Plates which Grants improved critical to those standing on the plate. Or Rusty, a super-sized Rust Monster that you can have fetch the opposing team stuff. You can also use rusty as a mount! (they wrote a whole section on how to ride Rust Monsters with ride check DCs and stuff) Really cool material so far. I'm about 30% through the book (120 pages).

any-who, I Should get the map pretty soon will let you know...

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it so far, Norrak.

"Shimmied over from fb?" Does anyone know what joela means by that?

Facebook, I presume. You have a presence there?

fb = facebook. Yup. One of my fb friends joined the Conflict fb group. Curious, I checked it out, discovered it was Pathfinder-compatible, and tracked the product here on Paizo.

link?

Here you go.

Is there a bundle option for getting both versions of the book? I like having both copies if possible.

No problem. Post what you think of the product. I'm curious about it as well.

Actually, I'm not sure what to think of the product. I had the same reaction that you did, except I started reading this thread whereas you started from FB. It's different, to say the least. I'd have to spend some time following up on the discussions to get a better understanding of the tactical roleplaying ... especially when it pits PC vs PC, right?

Sorta. From what I've read so far, everyone has particular objectives in mind, both personal and team. It's the fulfillment of the objectives that the point, not the PvP (or team versus team) that's the goal.

Reviewing the forums now....

Hi Dm4hire—There is a bundle package that will allow you to get the pdf and the physical book. Here are the link:

Bundles 1
(BOOK) + (PDF)

Bundles 2
(BOOK) + (MAP)

All Bundles
All Bundled Savings Packs

Hope that answers your question.

I'm really interested in it. Having a rather large DDM collection and feeling somewhat orphaned by the death of the related skirmishing rules (DDM1, me grognard), this "tactical RPG" approach to small conflicts over a mapped layout is very appealing.

OH, 1000th post!

Hi Urizen. I have to get my kids to the bus stop soon and then run to work, but I can give you a little info to fill in some of the gaps here.

At the start of a match, players split into teams - usually two, but sometimes more. Each team has an objective that must be met in order to win the match. Sometimes, both teams have the same objective, such as in the McGiffin match where the object is to get an object and return it to your Hallow. Other matches the teams have different -- and competing -- goals. For example, in Hellbreak, one team tries to free a prisoner while the other team tries to maintain control of the prisoner.

Just like in "regular" D&D or Pathfinder, the amount of roleplaying that takes place during a session is a function of the group. Some groups, I imagine, are going to go through entire matches without once uttering a word in-character; other groups will develop elaborate team mottos, taunt other players in-character, and so on.

Alright - bus stop time. If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We'll be happy to help you out.

Okay, so I did the book & PDF bundle. Where do I get the PDF? Is it emailed to me? I'm not seeing a page to get it from on your site.

Yeah, I'm not getting that at all. When I go into account it shows all my personal stuff with login in red. There's nothing at the bottom and when I choose save it kicks me out to the product page.

This sounds somewhat like FF Tactics am I at all close if so let me know I might buy this

I don't really know the rules to this game, but I was commissioned to create the map.

Joey Virtue wrote:

So I only played FF Tactics a few times at my buddy house, but I can you tell this: The conflict rules allow for a DM to set a Battlepoints Cap. Which is the highest amount your character can be worth in Battlepoints. Battlepoints are a pretty light weight way to measure your character's "bad-ass-ness" (ie prowless).

Once the Cap is set you can build what ever character you want (Like Final fantasy characters for example!) as long as you stay under the cap - you're golden.

So it can easily play just like FF tactics if you want.

Thanks,

I've been to a few of these play testings and was never bored. Its a lot of fun to pit yourself against other people in such a tactically driven game.

Thanks for the kind words Marko!

I have played in conflict match types. Point blank = there is no greater thrill in proving your PC skills against other players. You have to count on the experience you earned in those mind numbing campaigns and apply razor quick decisions to overcome your foes. It is exciting and fast paced. I played almost of the "game types" and I am convinced this is a great gaming system for PVP action.....

Enjoy

I gotta agree. I dm about 6 guys every week. We have been throwing in a conflict session before the campaign session each week. My guys get a real kick out of the conflict matches each week. I think we played about 6 out of the 10 different matches in the core-book.

The map they sell is also pretty good. Lots of nuances to it which makes it playable for more that a few sessions.

The team feats in the books are cool, but they need to add a bunch more. We home-brewed about 6 already.

Anywho-I plan to run conflict matches at my local convention coming up in May, instead of the one-shots we typically play. Would to see this book do well cause my group is pretty hooked on it.

As Mordheim is one of my all-time favorite games, I'm quite interested in this game.

How is it for functioning as a pure 1v1 skirmish game with multiple characters?

Do characters grow or is every game built?

Is there a campaign system?

Man this looks really cool good way to pass the time when someone is late to the game or to warm up if people get threr early

I was hoping someone else would answer this one, because I am clearly biased :) but after a few hours of waiting, here goes...

*

Because of the hidden movement aspects of the game (i.e. casting spell, setting traps, hiding etc without your opponents knowledge) the game must be governed by a GM. Once you have a GM, a 1v1 skirmish game with multiple characters are encouraged.

In fact, within the GAME MASTERING chapter on page 83, there are recommendations on how to GM Multiple Characters. Also in the PLAYER'S TIPS AND TRICKS chapter handling multiple characters are mentioned a bunch of times there as well.

Hope that answers your question.

I've been wanting to check this out, and after listening to Atomic Array this evening, I know I *have* to get it. Although, I think I'm going to wait on the boxed set. Fun idea, thanks for making it.

Also, once I get it and start playing, I'm replacing GM/DM with MC - Master of Conflict. :)

DEVASTATING MIKE CONTROL!

Nice!

Bunch of friends and myself ran a whole season of PvP tournament that we dubbed Fight Club. It was an utter blast!

Everyone talked about turning it into a box or book, but no one did. Just five iterations of rules, a big book, and lots of hot air.

Looking at Conflict -- they've gone way beyond what it took us an entire year to develop and tweak to perfection. This book looks awesome. I am so going to get it and, if it's as good as I suspect, migrate our whole Fight Club League to these rules.

Nice!

And as Nerd NYC Fight Club League Champion, I am soooo gonna kick John Ling's a$$ in some 1 on 1 PvP action. How about Gencon? I hereby throw down the gauntlet.

*whack! whack!*

That was my old, dog-chewed damp glove hitting your cheek. I wouldn't soil my new leathers on a man about to BITE IT!

Sure, we can have a match at GenCon. And five minutes later, after I've thoroughly kicked your sorry ass, I can go and do something more challenging -- like playing some of the kiddie games.

Mark and everyone should run it as a tournament.

Oh yeah?! How about this for kicking sorry ass - my character will wear a loin cloth, jewelry and gold sandals but nothing else when he leaves yours lying dead in the gutter. And I shall laugh.

Let me tell you where you can put your gold piece: leave it on Ling's eyes. He'll need 'em for the ferryman.

Wow, that was actually vaguely clever Lou. Who sent you an e-mail with the suggestion to post that?
