It's the final countdown! 32 Hour PbP Nomic!

RPG Superstar™ 2010 General Discussion

'32' hours remain! What better way to pass the time than a completely chaotic forum game!

The Devil-lich Za'rajza, the World Ender, has unleashed hell from his spawning pit in the Worldwound. The crusader nation of Mendev was the first to succumb. That once shining bastion is now a shadow of it's former self, concerned only with it's own survival. The army now marches south, and east, and west. In all directions, it leaves utter destruction in it's wake, consuming entire nations. In the tumult, most of Golarion's great organizations have descended into chaos, as panic grips the realm. Only a handful of citizens stand against the forces of the Ender, but have they any hope?

A nomic is a rule-less game, in which most of the game consists of creating and altering a new ruleset. In this case, the rules of Pathfinder, or the D&D roleplaying game, do not exist...yet. Starting with a few basic guidelines, the 'players', as defined, must undermine the 'enemy' and free Golarion. How this is done is the fun of it =).

Guidelines:
The game will begin with a few interminable 'guidelines', a place of sanity to serve as a 'jumping off' point. These rules cannot be changed, and create a loose structure to prevent utter chaos. They also define the flow of play.

1. Player turns:

- A player may make as many turns over the course of the game as they wish, but may only have one Rule "in play" at any given time. No player may act immediately after themselves, or within one turn of themselves, as this will create a time paradox, destroying all actions involved in that paradox.
- A player's turn is immediate, and concrete. No edits may be made after a player's turn has ended.

2. Player actions:

- A player may take one of the following actions during their turn: Add a rule, Delete a rule, Change a rule, Collect and use a rule. The first three are obvious, and there are no arguments as to what a rule is, does, or changes. A player may use a rule(one that permits an action) if he/she collects all rules/rule changes currently "in play" into a single post and states which single rule they are enacting. All collected rules are immediately destroyed, and the game continues.

3. Definition of 'The Players':

- The players are any member of the paizo.com forums, and though especially indicated by entrants and participants in the Superstar contest, anyone can play.
- Each player has a single, self-defined 'stat', which may be qualified as anything, and begins at 1. Strength, Luck, Science, Amazingness, anything goes. This stat can and will be manipulated over the course of the game, but is simplistically defined as a number, of value no greater than 100, which defines the player. Changes to this stat, and any other player 'qualities', are permanent and are not destroyed with the original rule.

4. Definition of 'The Enemy':

- This year's Top 32, as well as previous years Top placing entrants, are invited to play the part of the Devil Lich's army generals, commanders, soldiers and magus. They are equally invited to invent any crazy evil destructive entity they so desire. They will similarly define rules to use against the players, at one per Superstar. These rules are not destroyed when used, and only the power of that Superstar can change a rule created with their power.

WARNING:
Finally, no 'RPG Superstar' content may be used as a part of this game, from this year or any other. Content from the 'Rejected/Theoretical Submissions' forums is permissible, unless otherwise outlawed by Paizo staff.
This is meant to be a civil, fun-time game to create buzz before the next round. If you aren't having fun, you are not required to participate =). Keep it simple, keep it civil, and play nice.
I will not be playing in the game, but will be watching and making adjustments(waves of chaos!) as the game progresses.
THIS GAME WILL END AT EXACTLY 4:30pm EST, FEBRUARY 2ND, 2010. Out of respect for the Contest and it's Entrants, please cease posting at that time.

One final note, the game engine does not understand certain syntax, such as infinite numbers or values. That said...the first rule!

.:Players must define a starting location, they gain +1(to their stat) for every other player in that location.

I awoke in my workshop in Alkenstar to the smell of burning flesh. Unfortunately, it was my own. Removing the still-red soldering iron from my smoldering flesh, I reached for the first aid kit. That's when the first quake hit...

.:A player whose stat is Treachery gains +1 Treachery whenever a conflict occurs which does not include that player.

My queen Baba Yaga has communicated her will to me. She refuses to capitulate to demons, but neither will she ally with mortals. Irrisen's borders shall not shift one inch!

Sadism: 1

.:A player whose stat is Sadism may, on their turn, reduce the stat of one other player in their location by one, and gain a corresponding +1 to their Sadism score.

The land bleeds. And with blood comes opportunity. As Zon-Kuthon did once free our nation from the darkness in return for devotion unending, so in this new era of darkness shall Nidal spread his chains! Demons and the like are naught before the will of the Midnight Lord. Join us, and fear no enemies as you revel in the power that comes only from submission to the will of a god. Defy us, and pray that the legions of the Worldwound claim you before we do.

Muhahaha, subverting the populace. I like it.

With a last strike the red glow of the steel diminished, it's keen edge now shining in the forge's fires, hold aloft by soot-covered hands.
I can not be of much help fighting the ill that has befallen our land, but whoever wields this blade hopefully will. Thought the smith , proud of his new creation. There was much work to be done.
