Let's assume you roll average of 26 and NEVER roll a 1.
"Tears of Death" = 6500gp = 65000sp
DC 26 craft check every week = 26sp of work accomplished/week.
26/65000 = 2500 (weeks) = 48+ years.
Just checking to make sure I'm doing this right...
No, the DC = the Fort Save which is 22. So...
If you average a 26, you multiply that by the DC (22x26 = 572 sp/week) (That is what you were missing)
So 65000/572 = ~114 weeks = ~ 10 years, which is still AWFUL.
I want to know how it takes a reasonably competent (using the above skill bonus) Alchemist 4 weeks to extract one dose of venom from a black adder!
Or, the same Alchemist 53 weeks to find one dose of hemlock, one dose!
I mean, today we get poisoned for free with melamine in our toothpaste, and it costs 2,500gp (or 833 gp, if you spend the 4.5 years looking yourself) to find a sprig of hemlock?
Speaking of which, I've statted up some Melamine(for free!):
Melamine
Type poison, ingested/contact; Save Fortitude DC 5
Onset 5 years; Frequency 1/year
Effect 1d3 Con drain
Cost: Free

Didn't we have this discussion?
Of course, a rules problem in the general discussion forum. A wonder I couldn't find it. Can't see me hand in front of me eyes.
Thanks for Lurking.

As a side note... fabricate! Bracelet of Fabricate: Command Word Fabricate 1xday = 16,200 gold.
if you have use magic device or have it on your spell list a wand would be cheaper.

I like the Hammer of Fabricate. Use activated, at will, unlimitted times per day = 90,000 gp

Nice imagery on that one:
The Alchemist is in his laboratory, laboring diligently, 3 years into crafting some Tears of Death.Dwarf walks in. It's his neighbor the smith! BAM! Tears of Death! The dwarf picks it up and leaves, laughing all the way, while the Alchemist is left, crying at the doorway.

Shouldn't finding hemlock fall under survival (Edit: with suitable Knowledge: Nature check) since it grows naturally? I think only the manufactured poisons have to be made with craft.

Now you're making it too easy! (Good catch)
Actually in Post #2 that is a typo, the OP was asking about Tears of Death

I have a goblin in a steampunk game who can't wait to get his hands on one. Then its just a matter of time before he gets power armor.

Being able to make poisons in a viable manner should not be limited to spellcasters or those with magical hammers. The system is seriously flawed. As written, there is pretty much no way for adventurers to make and use their own poisons. They are simply too busy adventuring to take weeks/months/years out of their schedule for a single dose of poison which MIGHT work.

So 65000/572 = ~114 weeks = ~ 10 years
On which planet are you living, exactly? :)
Around here, 114 weeks = 798 days ~ 2 years 2 months.
which is still AWFUL.
I must agree on that. The Craft skill rules are an unamended disaster. They should have been fixed. Or removed (to get rid of the embarassment).

I do NEWMATHS!!
(oops! Thanks for correcting me! This is exactly why the wife doesn't let me touch the checkbook)
Hopefully they'll address this in the advanced players guide *hint* *hint* *nudge* *nudge* so that Dr. Hazard can make his own poisons! (In PFS where house-rules, do not apply)
