"The Winding Way" PFRPG Homebrew PBP

Gamer Connection

I would very much like to start a PbP game here on the Paizo boards, using my currently developing world of Tarela. It will be a mix of free-form and AP-like activities, leaning more to creating a coherent world than any particular storyline (unless I think up something that's just far too cool to pass up).

The exact nature of the combat/roleplaying skew will be directly modifiable based on the characters and the method of play. Almost all combats will be able to be circumvented, depending on the will of the players (and roll of the dice, in some cases).

I am willing to modify what I have planned to suit any particular set of levels potential players would enjoy, and am prepared to handle up to 5 characters.

Books other than PFRPG and the current block of Playtest classes may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Current plans are for 20 point-buy creation, but I'd be willing to change that. Characterization is far more important to me than stats, and I am far more willing to make concessions and fudge rules for interesting and unique PCs. I also highly encourage and reward clever problem solving with bonuses when used in combat, and extra rewards for outside of combat.

Some important campaign notes: Elves are almost always evil on Tarela, and thus make poor character choices. There are no Orcs, but a separate and distinct race known as the Jocab exist that use the stats for Half-Orcs, except for Orc Blood. Up to 2 traits from the character trait web enhancement may be selected.

I am definitely available and interested. I have an Alchemist I've been itching to try out. Would you like us to have our character sheets here on the Paizo boards, or could we link to a Google doc?

I am interested. I am thinking of Crusader. The class looks very interesting to me.

I'd really like to play as well. I would like to make an Archon if you are allowing third party material, if not I would like to play an Inquisitor.

Either one is fine with me, so long as you can post a link somewhere that I can peruse it easily.

That's fine, though I would warn you that I tend to place a lot of the action in my campaigns in cities, dungeons, or other closed in areas, so your mount may not be the best. I would be happy to discuss alternatives to it and your mount charging abilities, if you wish.

I'd prefer not to. I'm OK with 3rd party stuff sometimes, but only with stuff I know and have tested before.

I'll be putting up a bit of campaign setting information in the PbP Discussion area tomorrow, probably in the later afternoon. Be sure to check it out if you're interested.

I'd like to be considered for this game as well. I can pick whatever role the party needs. What level will you be starting the party?

Hi Hammith,

This sounds very interesting. Count me in. I was thinking of trying one of the new classes. Maybe the Summoner.

I am playing an inquisitor in a low level game right now. I am having a lot of fun with it. Allows the party to have someone who can heal in a scrape, but still puts up one heck of a fight. High recommend it.

Liberty's Edge

I have several characters in the sidelines that are waiting to be tried out. A fire elemental sorceress, a crossbow specialist fighter, and a rather insane cleric of Gorum.

Actually the cleric of Gorum is a half-elf. So that might not fit in with your campaign... but considering the evil nature of elves, perhaps it fits more so than not.

EDIT: I just realized in a homebrew you might not have Gorum. So, okay, he's a spiked armor battle cleric who lives for conflict.

I'm thinking somewhere in the 1-3 range. I generally try to avoid level 1, though. It always seems to be when I roll the most criticals, and when people can stand the least of them.

Summoner is perfectly acceptable, but do make sure to read the recent update to their summoning power on the boards.

Well, Stardust, I'm already full up on what I expected. However, if you feel up to writing a back story once I get some of the campaign info up later this afternoon, I might just be persuaded to stretch to 6 players.

Current Players List
Tanner Nielsen
deranged
AlQahir
Gerald
MoFiddy
stardust (possible/reserve)

Anyone else that wishes to play will be placed into the reserve list, in case something comes up for anyone and they have to drop out. I shall be putting up a few bits of campaign information in a few hours. It will mostly include a few gods, why elves are so different, and a bit about the starting area. I might include the map if I can get it done.

Sounds great Hammith!

Sounds good Hammith. I did read the latest updates to the summoner. I'm not 100% sure if I will go that route or not. I'll wait to read the campaign info before I make my final decision.

I would like to start at level 3 though. If I do go summoner, then I think level 3 makes the summon SLA's worth the effort.

Looking forward to reading the campaign info!

You are right, that does put a damper on things... However would a size small character (and thus a medium size mount) work for the setting?

Like I said, I'll wait for everyone to choose a character, and I will try and fill in a hole that might be left.

I hadn't thought of that possibility, honestly. It would be a quite elegant solution to the problem.

The first part of my Campaign information is ready, I apologize in advance for the hugeness of the post, but I wanted to cover the main races first. Later on in the day I shall cover Gods and the main area that most of the campaign will take place in. It will be a couple of hours, as I need to walk my dog and get lunch.

With the Archon out I'll make an Inquisitor. 20 point buy and we are starting at level three?

I just read the PbP discussion page and I'd like to play a Jocabi Inquisitor. I am making the character right now and was just wondering if Jocabi look like half orcs or they just use their stats (this is so I can choose my icon :))

They have a generally similar appearance, though Jocabi have a much greater variety of skin color. They range from a reddish-brown to a blueish-green. However, the classic Half-Orc green is also prevalent.

Can you add me to the reserve list?

One question...

Can I use the alchemical items from Complete Adventurer and Complete Scoundrel? Making alchemical items is a major schtick of the class and the list in the Players Guide is a little slim. Please, oh, please? :)

I don't remember anything too nasty from those, I'll say yes provisionally. I'll go over them again and tell you if anything is a big no-no.

It would probably be best to move most of the conversation to the discussion page as of now. While I'll still check this one, it will be no where near as frequently.

I'd like to be slapped onto your list as well.
