Necromancers and turn / command undead

Sovereign Court

- Do necromancers have to choose whether to channel positive or negative energy at level 1 similar to a cleric?
- If yes, I take it this would then be alignment-restricted?

They can only either command or turn undead. So it'd probably fallow the usual restrictions for channelling energy.

Not sure I follow your logic - still a question mark in my mind (clawing... pulling...) - anyone else care to wade in?

Dark Archive

The write up states that the channel energy ability is only useful to power 'the selected feat' (either Turn Undead or Command Undead) which sounds very much like the Necromancer must choose one of the two, and can't later purchase or make use of the other.

He doesn't have channel energy for any other purposes, so he can't heal / harm the living or the dead, making it kind of moot whether or not the Necromancer is channeling positive or negative energy, since he can only use the ability to power his Turn Undead *or* Command Undead feat, whichever he selected at 1st level.
