The greatest fighter of in the F.Realms books Zaknafein Do'Urden made good use of this combo (whiping the tounges out of peoples mouths) etc.Does the build work?
Fighter (Flail Mastery) 5:
1. EWP Whip, 1. 2-weapon, 2. Power Attack, 3. Cleave, 4. Quick DrawUse Cleave and Disarm or Trip 2 foes at range. Tumble in and full attack with a flail.
First off you must keep in mind that Salvatore is a fiction writer and while inspired by the D&D universe he does not adhere to the rules and neither do his characters.
Zak is pretty cool and if you like to try out his build in a game, I suggest you speak with your GM first. You will want to make sure that the combinations you want to use are in par with the rules, or at least that the GM will be willing to house rule some effects as necesary.
I think the build you suggest might not be overly effective, but it does look interesting and fun to play and I would suggest you try it. Remember though that using the whip provokes AoO from adjacent foes.
As for whipping tongues out of peoples mouths... well I remember an arcanopath PrC in a Dragon magazine that could silence people for a short time. Maybe your GM will allow you to attain this ability if you give up a class ability or a bonus feat.
As far as i remember, this silencing blow was pretty much like the monks stunning fist in most senses except that it would silence in stead of stun. If this ability could only ve used with the whip it would not be unbalanced.
As for cleave and trip/disarm with the whip it is entirely within the scope of the rules. No problem there.
