Princes of Darkness: Diabolist Prestige class question

Im trying to stat up a Diabolist and have a question about the minimum level needed to enter the prestige class.

One of the requirements is the casting of lesser planar ally or lesser planar binding.

Now the levels needed to cast these spells are:

Cleric 7 L. planar ally
Wizard 9 L planar binding
Sorceror 10 L. planar binding

Compared to other prestige classes, it seems kind of high to meet the requirements. Is this intentional due to the 'infernal' nature of the class?

This is just about flavor, but I see wizards as the ones summoning devils more than clerics. I know clerics have the same spells, but wizards, devils, demons, and magic circles just go together in my mind.

Now the requirement does mention 'or a similar spell'. What are some of these similar spells? And is there another way to lower these levels, in particular the wizard?

Thanks

It's intentional; the diabolist is a prestige class that's one that you'll have to wait a little bit longer to get into than, say, a class like assassin.

And also, it is a class that's intentionally built to make it easier for clerics to qualify for, since it's basically a prestige class that worshipers of a devil would like to take. Wizards and sorcerers can qualify, but they're not the "classic" diabolists this class is speaking to.

"Similar spells" would be planar ally, greater planar ally, planar binding, or greater planar binding. This basically lets a higher level spellcaster who, for whatever reason never got access to the lesser versions of the spell still qualify for the class.

If you're the GM and you want this class to be more wizard friendly, by all means make whatever changes you want, but the class is intended to be a cleric prestige class first and a wizard/sorcerer prestige class second.

(NOTE: One way to sneak by the special requirement, of course, is to use a scroll of lesser planar ally or lesser planar binding. This is the best way to "sneak" into the class at 6th level, but it's a little tricksy and cheesy and some GMs might not allow it...).

There is also no mention of HD for the class in the book

Wow. Didn't even notice that when I was looking it over. I just assumed it was d6 due to the spellcasting.

And in fact, it is d6 due to an NPC in a certain adventure.

I used the Diabolist for some Area type battles, and i assumed it was a D6 class as well.

I will be playign this one for CoT

I'd also like to point out that it's rather more dangerous, since a mishap might very well bring you face-to-face with something a bit...larger...than you intended. GM Discretion's always fun!

(Personally, if I got a mishap on the scroll attempt I'd be disappointed if the GM didn't have something with maximum HD show up wondering why the puny wizard just called it.)

Umm... page 45 upper right hand corner, above the table, d6. Plus, the bab progression is usually the giveaway. 1/2 d6 3/4 d8, 1/1 d10

I kind of like the higher prerequisites. It assumes you are more able to handle whatever your god sends you, or whatever you call. It also makes you wait longer before you damn your soul, nothing too hasty.

It does make me wait longer to throw one at my players in CoT, as a side thing, but it seems to be worth it.

Is there a class devoted to the "slaying" and "opposing" of Devils in the book? Perhaps a Pathfinder version of the Hellbreaker (only instead of being a thief of Devils it concentrates on fighting them instead)?

No, there is not.
