Two Weapon Fighting Madness

Rules Questions

Hopefully Brodiggan will help with this one making statistics and all.

I noticed that 2WF has become quite powerfull now, and I would like to know HOW powerfull it is. I always liked 2 Handed weapons and I feel that they are really lousy now with the new Shield feats and the 2 weapon fighting ones. Am I wrong here?

The 2-Handed weapons feats in beta seemed to cover it a little, but now that they are out, how underpowered is 2 handed waepons really?

Not very. Two handed still has several advantages that two weapon can't really do, from being harder to disarm to increased damage in a single hit to simply being easier to hit with (due to the lack of penalties) and the lack of need to split your stats. Of the several builds I've seen, put together, tinkered with, and found on these boards you are looking at about the same damage either way.

Don't forget two handed can have reach... something two weapon doesn't really have a viable option for (yet).

I second that. Two-weapon fighting may tear up some enemies but it's lacking when you put things like DR into the mix. Now you maybe can up that somewhat by using high-crit range 2-weapon fighting to up your crit chances with the new blinding feats, etc.

However you could do the same thing with a falchion and whirlwind given enough enemies.

I am curious.. has anyone tried to convince their GM that if they two-weapon throw(perfectly legit) that they can two-weapon rend?

But don't you guys think it's odd to have NO feats whatsoever for 2 handed weapons? The 2 Weapon Fighter will be twice (if not more) damaging than a 2 handed one, and that's pretty much 80% of the time. That just sounds wrong for me.

To be honest, I see such feats as power attack and the cleave tree to be be better for two handed weapons. Sunder is more useful for two handed weapons than for TWF as well, as is anything that benefits a mobile character; someone with two weapons only really benefits if they use a full attack action.

I think you only start seeing the benefits for two weapon fighting when you use one weapon with a shield as your second weapon...

TWF sees the greatest benefit from things that add bonuses per hit: SA, Smite, FE, etc. Without that, it isn't really all that wonderful.

Characters with a high Str, power attackers, vital strikers, and those using 3.5 feats (leap attack, shock trooper, etc) will benefit more from 2-HW. Such weapons also often have better reach.

That said, I do agree that they should put out some 2-H specific feats in the future.
